BrendanRye Posted September 4, 2012 Report Posted September 4, 2012 My mate bought this rolling shell for $300 as a project for us to do. But after a few weeks we sorta lost interest due to too much rust work needing to be done. It did come with some extra bits that helped us down the line, like suspension, diff, interior and rims. It's_AUDM_Yo Posted September 4, 2012 Report Posted September 4, 2012 Nice, What are your plans for it? Quote
altezzaclub Posted September 4, 2012 Report Posted September 4, 2012 Yeah I reckon they're at their cheapest for the next couple of years, then soon they will all be wrecked and rare, and the price will go up again. See if you can find a nice granny-spec auto and buy that, then use the black one as a donor car for a gearbox conversion and a testbed for a 4age swap-over. That way you can keep the new car on the road as a daily. Â Then again, can you do welding and vague panelbeating yourself? How bad is the rust? Quote
BrendanRye Posted September 4, 2012 Author Report Posted September 4, 2012 After a while me and my dad started talking about a car for me. We found this car for $500 went and had a look and it was in very good condition body wise.. Very little rust and what rust there was, dad removed. It had basically no interior, just the two front seats (what more do you really need right?) but they were had it. No seat belts, locked diff, cut springs and no exhaust. Quote
BrendanRye Posted September 4, 2012 Author Report Posted September 4, 2012 Hey guys, thanks for looking already. Got a few more posts to do. I was a bit late on doing this build thread. We are almost finished the car now. Keep an eye out on here and you'll see our progress. Got a few photos and stuff to upload. Quote
BrendanRye Posted September 4, 2012 Author Report Posted September 4, 2012 I didn't manage to get photos of the rust before or after but my dad is a boiler maker by trade and he cut and welded it all up. So now there is no rust left. There is a few little dents here and there but we aren't too worried about that as this is my first car. Quote
BrendanRye Posted September 4, 2012 Author Report Posted September 4, 2012 (edited) Our first task was to swap the diffs. Did it all just guessing our way. We only worked on the car on sundays and usually got a heap done each time. Edited September 4, 2012 by BrendanRye Quote
BrendanRye Posted September 4, 2012 Author Report Posted September 4, 2012 We then swapped the suspension over.. Again guessing our way around it all. Took the standard and chopped springs out and put the lowered King springs out of the black car in. Sits a lot nicer now. Would still like to go lower but this is enough for now. Quote
BrendanRye Posted September 4, 2012 Author Report Posted September 4, 2012 Put the 'better' seats in. Tried to clean them up a little but who knows how long those stains have been there for. Quote
BrendanRye Posted September 4, 2012 Author Report Posted September 4, 2012 Little extra work my dad put in after work during the week. Boot looks better then the rest of the car! Quote
BrendanRye Posted September 4, 2012 Author Report Posted September 4, 2012 My 'TOYROLLA' badges and the plates I managed to get for it. Quote
BrendanRye Posted September 4, 2012 Author Report Posted September 4, 2012 Not really of major importance but the centre console was in really bad condition and taped together but we fixed it up and painted it to make it look nicer. Even a bit of carpet underneath the handbrake for the extra nice look. Haha. Quote
BrendanRye Posted September 4, 2012 Author Report Posted September 4, 2012 We also swapped the doors over at some stage too. This is what the black one ended up looking like, with minimal useable parts. But a guy bought it from me for $100. He also Sold me my exhaust and some extra standard rims. Quote
BrendanRye Posted September 4, 2012 Author Report Posted September 4, 2012 The almighty 4k. Engine was basically all good. Had a few issues with it starting here and there. Replaced some bits in the carby now it runs fine and starts fine. Has 166,000k's on the clock which isn't too bad really for its age.Was serviced not long ago according to the sticker that was on the windscreen. Quote
BrendanRye Posted September 4, 2012 Author Report Posted September 4, 2012 Had to have the windscreen replaced as it had a crack from top to bottom right in the middle. Was only $200 which I thought was good. Everything has been done on a very small budget as I earn crap all. Dad has helped along the way with the money though. Quote
