BrendanRye Posted September 4, 2012 Author Report Posted September 4, 2012 Needed new headlights. I thought this would be hard to find. Had some people try sell me some second hand for $100 a set. Found a local parts store sells them for $40 each off the shelf. Then didn't even have to buy any as the ones in my dads old Rodeo are exactly the same. So got me some free headlights. Lucky me. BrendanRye Posted September 4, 2012 Author Report Posted September 4, 2012 The painting was the biggest pain. We did it the cheap way, acrylic paint, and my dad did the work. Keep in mind he hasn't painted a car in over 10 years and that was the only car he has ever painted. Did it over 3 or 4 sundays. Quote
BrendanRye Posted September 4, 2012 Author Report Posted September 4, 2012 Did a few coats of primer. Then we decided to put a black stripe along the bottom which I think will look good with the black bumpers and what not. Quote
BrendanRye Posted September 4, 2012 Author Report Posted September 4, 2012 The most exciting part was seeing it after it was painted. Really does just bring a car to life. May not be perfect but hey, it's alright for a first car, and definatly not bad for a 2nd car paint job ever. Quote
BrendanRye Posted September 4, 2012 Author Report Posted September 4, 2012 Dad has since finished off the paint job. But I haven't had a chance to go get photos due to him and myself working. But hopefully on sunday i'll be over there putting it back together and seeing it in full painted and all for the first time. Still need to get parker lights and the indicators for the guards and possibly some tyres due to minor roadworthy issues with the ones I have. Let me know what you think and i'll have some more photos up as soon as I can get some! Quote
Jono.C Posted September 4, 2012 Report Posted September 4, 2012 Acrylic isn't really 'a cheap way' price wise yes but the results are pretty good actually, considering you can spray it in your backyard. If it's prepped right there's no issue's at all Quote
BrendanRye Posted September 4, 2012 Author Report Posted September 4, 2012 Yeah. It fit with my budget and it turned out quite nice. And we did it in my dads shed with no complaints from anyone and it was easy to clean up after each day. Quote
BrendanRye Posted September 10, 2012 Author Report Posted September 10, 2012 Getting there now. Quote
altezzaclub Posted September 12, 2012 Report Posted September 12, 2012 Good work! There's plenty to do for very little cost to make them a nice driver's car that keeps up with the traffic. That's all I've done on mine and its turned out well. Start looking for Corona lower control arms and a Celica rear sway bar, they both improve the handling. The motor improves with a cam and extractors and even just a Weber 32/36. The car stays looking stock and goes well. A boilermaker could fabricate some really nice gear... quad carb inlet manifold anyone? Quote
snot35 Posted September 12, 2012 Report Posted September 12, 2012 Bike carbs! Tidy little low budget project though, keep it up! I'm inspired by low budget projects, as all my money has recently vanished too :) Quote
Jono.C Posted September 12, 2012 Report Posted September 12, 2012 I made my bike carb manifold from a 4k inlet manifold Quote
snot35 Posted September 12, 2012 Report Posted September 12, 2012 Oh yeah? Is there details around of that setup? Quote
Jono.C Posted September 13, 2012 Report Posted September 13, 2012 (edited) I haven't finished yet as I need to get the hose to connect the carbs to the manifold, I'm looking for the stuff with wire coiled around inside. That way I'll partially support the carbs and it won't close in on itself when you rev it I can get a photo or 2 as is though Edited September 13, 2012 by Jono.C Quote
