I wonder if that's the same set relisted? Maybe somebody didn't want to cough up $1300 odd!

I just checked the link from the earlier set, they appear to be from different places(1st Melb, 2nd Balina) but the title is pretty much word for word, which had me thinking that it could still be the same set.

Well i've been having an awesome time trying to get this thing running.

I think i spent around 10 hours just trying to get manifolds to line up correctly and what not, restudding the head, then undersize studing it, working out the inlet manifold was the wrong thickness, spent 2 hours trying to mill that.... Anyway, finally got it sorted and got an exhaust made up for it, and it sounded AWESOME.

Anyway, for the last two nights been trying to sort out a phantom fueling issue. I'd get no more than a 1k from home and she'd stall out. Try and crank it a little while / sit and i could drive another k...

At first i just thought it was empty, fail

Then i spent an hour last night converting to a electric fuel pump, removing and Wiring, no resolution.

Then went back to it this morning to ensure it was a supply issue, and sure enough, hardly any fuel ran out, turns out it was the FPR allowing pretty much NO fuel out. So the 1k must have been all that was left in the carby bowl...

Went for a drive just now and she is great. Sounds awesome. I'm taking a vid tonight and loading it i like it so much...

I also pick up another 3k block this weekend, and will get about stripping it on Sunday hopefull and start mocking things up.

Ordered a billet CAM from Tighe today also. At this stage, I'm running as hard as i can with a Standard-ish engine. Everything will be balanced, dynamically and statically, but not the funky roller lifters or rockers just yet. I really want to prove that they can rev first off, so i will put a the massive cam in it, with the rods, pistons and what not, slap it together and see where it stops...

Hopefully i plan to get that happening, built and in the engine in the chrissy - new years break, once the marrage / honeymoon and all that stuff is finished.

We went with the Tighe 413 cam.

Advertised duration is something like 310/315 and at lift 280ish. Power band is quoted as something like 3500 to 9500rpm. Ideally we'd actually go a little larger, but at this stage, it will do for reliability testing and what not.

my plan is to build the engine over christmas, get it the car, FLOG IT for a few months - around 2500 K's and then tear her down and see what we have. We have the head built, intake and exhaust. So its really only going to be getting the block together and in the engine.

Crank should be done by Sunday night, and I'm dropping the block off to be line-bored. Bores were in surprisingly good nick. Quick clean out and all good. I'm going to run with the Clearance specs from the motorbike engine i stole the pistions, rings and gudgeons from. Other than that, the 4age rods and the pistons should drop straight in.

Compression ration may be a litte high, so I'm planning to dry run the block and see the deck heights between the tops of the piston and the top of the block.

I need to rant a little bit.

I bought an engine and carby set up off two different people, both stating how awesome and bolt on they should be.

So far,

- the engine was seized

- head gasket was shagged

- Timing was on 30+ degrees advance

- Carby manifold needed around $150 spent in machinnig just to get it to bolt on

- Fuel Pressure reg that came with it = totally Shagged

- Tuning is no where near it...

So i got most of this sorted out, but it was still running shit and wouldn't rev above 5000 rpm - for a 'worked 5k'... The guy had done the cam, so i feared the worst and bloke so far he surely hasn't dissappointed- cam was a tooth out.

So for the last 2.5 hours if been fixing that, and now hopefully it shouldn't be too bad. On the plus side, 10 degrees timing is perfectly in the middle of adjustment, so can't be too bad.

Just want to get this thing running so i can start playing with the suspension...

Anyway, everyone in NSW, we should arrange a cruise so can actually do something with this group. The NSW regional section is like a ghost town!

Haven't done this for a while

That perfect condition 5K motor lasted about 150K's before a big end nearly sent the rod flying out the side of the block.

Car has been off the road for nearly a Year now, but I managed to get a running 3K (that sounds good, but there's a noise my not so sure about) in it to get it going + Rego'd. The crank that we had polished and what not has been sitting, and needs another clean up and then final balancing. The GSXR1100 pistons and rods then need to be assembled and balanced. Then we need to lighten up that flywheel a Tonne!

In the mean time, the head is practically good to go, as is the cam, so as soon as I get the car back from the Blue-slip, I'm going to sort out the carby jetting a lot better, put this 413 cam in it as well as the crazy head and see what we have. IT will be a bit of a waste on an un-balanced bottom end with a bullshit heavy flywheel, but it will tell me a little more about if the dynamic Compression Ratio is near it or not...

Anyway, hopefully have some photos up tonight.

So I've been playing a little bit lately.

It turns out that this little 3K i bought and stuck in the car for ReGO is the perfect bore size and Everything else. So the Flywheel is off getting lightened, Gearbox is getting resealed, and i will finish polishing the crank this weekend and get the whole assembly Balanced this weekend.

I have the GSXR rings, wrist pins clips and what not on order currently, so hopefully that will only be a short amount of time before they are here, and we can slap this thing back together!

In the meantime, we've started on the Chassis side of things... Building a race car - even on a tight budget - is not a 'cheap exercise. SO at the moment, we're trying to gain speed the slowest but cheapest way possible - remove weight. So the attachments are just a small idea of what we're up to. All the interior is gone, and the seam welding should start this weekend also as all the sound deadening is gone. Slowly but surely, we're getting there!

So that 3k I bought purely as a runner to get it regod? Turned out to be a fully balanced bottom end, polished rods and what looks to be lightened pistons. So I decided to put the head and cam on it as well as the flywheel, shit does this thing move... 10,000rpm and an absolute ball with the dcoe40 which we fitted just yesterday...

I'll put up a video, 5000-8500 happens in a flash in first gear. Really needs a 4.5 or better diff with 5speed...
