So i discovered last night that the 4k had decided to fill completely up with fuel, sump, combustion chamber, inlet etc and overflow onto the road throught the sump gasket.

Took the fuel line off at the carby and without the car running it wont stop flowing.

I'm thinking maybe somethings wrong with the fuel pump, causing it to leak while the car isnt running but I'm not sure. Oh and it was parked on a hill front facing downhill on about a 10deg slope.

I have parked there plenty of times without this happening before.

So the question is...

If i drain everything out, clean the plugs, fill oil back up etc and start it, have i got a bomb on my hands?

Cheers Sam

Time for a new fuel pump.

If you drain everything out you will be fine. If it was me, I would change the filter, put a little oil down each plug hole and turn it over by hand to try and get some oil around the rings. I would also get oil pressure by turning it over without the coil lead before starting it.

Nice. So all the seals/ gaskets should be ok. Had a feeling the petrol might eat away at them?

Not that quickly, all will be well.

I once did the same thing with an L20B, except I filled it with water. Had rebuilt engine, which was running, and slowly topping up water, which I kept adding and adding. Just when I'm thinking, 'shit that's a lot of water', it started pissing out of the breather.

Turned out the previous owner had tapped a new hole in the front of the block to allow for adjustment on a chain slide (had previously had a massively shaved head). Me not knowing this and installing new head, had bolted slide to original hole oblivious to new hole which had been tapped into the water jacket........

Shit. You live and learn hey. I suppose it would be a lot worse with water in there rather than fuel. Its turned out not as bad as i originally thought

So it just siphoned through the pump where a bit of shit was sitting on the flap valve holding it open?? What Parrot said sounds good, it should clean up OK.
