hey guys brand new member here,

today i picked up a barn find ke30, we have tried starting it with the ignition, nothing no noises nothing at all, and also tried arcing the starter motor, same deal no noises no nothing (its a 1975 ke30 orginal everything) also in the same barn was a decent looking toyota 1600cc rwd with gearbox and twin cam, unforntunately no inlet no exhaust no nothing just the engine and attached manual gearbox (sorry i can't really identify it anymore) would this be a good conversion for 350$ obviously id still need inlet and exhausts and wiring looms etc etc.

 

any help would be much appreciated

Obviously a guaranteed good battery, then check the earth from the motor to the chassis and the chassis to battery negative.

 

Check that there's 12V at the starter on the main power wire, and if there is 12V to the solenoid when you turn the key to start.

 

If you have power but no sound, then pull the starter off and strip it all.

 

The twincam would be good, but it would be no 5minute job to get it on the road.

with the twincam, saying its no small task to get it on the road, do you mean legally with engineers cert etc etc? or the actual conversion

To give accurate advice on the conversion you really need to tell us what the 1600cc motor is! Converting to a carb fed 2tg would be a lot easier and cheaper than a fuel injected 4age!

I'm 90% sure its a 4age, plan was to try and carby that, but i will look into the 2tg, thanks

oooo actually look at what a 2tg is it might actually be that, its attached to a manual gearbox and the guy wants 350$ for it, both of us are unsure of condition, but i will get back to you guys

Just do a google image search for 2tg and see if that's what you remember seeing.

yeh its a 2tg, like I said not sure of the condition, but it look clean from the outside, just motor and gearbox

Either of them will need an engineer's certificate as far as I know, so now you're looking at brake upgrades as well. Its nice having the T-series box with it, you could look at a T-sewries diff too before you blow the Borgie up, and a larger radiator. I don't know how the 2T fits over the crossmember and steering rack, they were designed for steering boxes.

 

Its all been done before and written up on here, the 4AGE more than the 2TG, have a search through and PM someone who has done it...

When you tried arcing the starter motor what did you actually do, did you run jumper leads down the main battery wire ( the big one ) & then bridge over to the solenoid wire to try & fire it up or just bridge the main wire to the starter solenoid wire & as has been asked how good is the battery & earth connections & or jumper leads & is there any dash lights on with ignition on ..

depends who you ask.

 

My engineer (QLD) didnt care what brakes i had for the mod plate for my 4age.

 

300cc is not much of an increase.

 

Best to ring someone and ask them though.

I used jumper leads from our Patrol, and the dash was lit up, we arced from the solenoid to the bigger wire, it sparked but that was about it, no other noises

Tried giving the starter a whack with a hammer while holding the key on start?

Have you had it running at all?

 

Have you turned the motor over with a spanner? Might be that the motor is siezed solid...

 

If you've got power to the coil just tow-start it in 2nd gear.
