Dzhoel Posted March 29, 2015 Report Posted March 29, 2015 Hi One of my heater pipes have corroded and leaked coolant allover my carpet At my school, we have oxy torches, can fix it in 2 seconds What is the easiest way to take out the heater in the least steps possible? don't really want to fix it atm because ive disconnected it for now but its really cold in the morning and at work in the evening so i feel i don't have a choice Pic related, my new carpet colour, dunno how to fix this but I'm laying a floor mat over it The offending pipe, this buttmunch ruined mah carpet Quote
Clapped out Posted March 29, 2015 Report Posted March 29, 2015 (edited) You'll find that 9 times out of 10 the rubber seals have perished, inside the heater tap there is a piston type valve with rubber "O" rings, that's likely your problem, and yes, easy to pull out, just a couple of hose clamps and a sandwich bracket on the firewall. You don't need to remove the whole heater unit, just the heater tap. cheers! Edited March 29, 2015 by Clapped out Quote
Dzhoel Posted March 29, 2015 Author Report Posted March 29, 2015 (edited) Hi Clapped Out Wow, easier job than i expected, why didn't i fix it sooner? i can see what you mean now that you're putting names on things Heres where i am atm Looking at this plate, do i just untighten this screw i see and yank the whole thing out? *EDIT yeah, now i see why i didn't do it sooner The whole thing is awkward to get out, destroyed my rubber seals in the firewall (perished from age, handling them broke them apart) and its still going nowhere. Any suggestions to getting it out? Edited March 29, 2015 by Dzhoel Quote
altezzaclub Posted March 29, 2015 Report Posted March 29, 2015 Its delicate! The solder lets go at the slightest force, so its a slow careful job really. Take the whole thing out and check it all, where those pipes join the heater core and the core itself, and pressure test it before you put it back in. Quote
LittleRedSpirit Posted March 29, 2015 Report Posted March 29, 2015 What he said/\/\. Heaters suck to fix. Its just the way it is. Be methodical and you will win. Quote
