matrxe Posted April 20, 2004 Report Posted April 20, 2004 hi all nice to find some friends in here :). i bought the car 2 years ago. need help to identify the model.i dunno if it is a KE70 or 71 or .... i just dunno. hope you guys can help out :D. its a 1982 corolla GL 1.3 5 speed manual RWD. Quote
demuire Posted April 20, 2004 Report Posted April 20, 2004 matrxe: Pop the bonnet and look at the chassis plate, it will tell you exactly which it is. Not that it would really matter, as it's obviously a KE7x of some sort, and they're all pretty much the same :) Nice wheels by the way. Quote
Medicine_Man Posted April 20, 2004 Report Posted April 20, 2004 Being 1982 I'd well and truely put my money on it being a KE70 Quote
Xany Posted April 21, 2004 Report Posted April 21, 2004 weird......its got the later stlye bonnet which was used on the ones with the slanted front end.....(slanted head lights)...as opposed to the one with the centre line down it...... Have you changed it??? Quote
matrxe Posted April 21, 2004 Author Report Posted April 21, 2004 slanted headlight? you mean the one like medicine_man yellow rolla? Nope. :D i have not changed anything except the wheels. About the headlights, KE70 that i usually found in the internet, are squares. like this one below http://www.rollaclub.com/gallery/public_upload/Was.JPG mine is rectangular. thats y can't decide what model it is bcoz no pictures (with info) to refer to. :) anyway.. thanks for the feed back :blinks:. the car isn't home yet. i'll let you guys know what is written on the chasisi plate. demuire Posted April 21, 2004 Report Posted April 21, 2004 Yours might have one of those import fronts or something (or maybe they did bring a few of those into Australia too). KE7x's came with a couple of different front ends over the years... Off the top of my head there was: - the one you have - the one with the squarish headlights - the one with the twin headlights - the one with the slanted headlights and i'm sure there's more... Quote
Super Jamie Posted April 21, 2004 Report Posted April 21, 2004 the earlier headlights and 4K tell me that's a KE70. afaik, 71s have slanted headlights that wrap around more. on your firewall in the engine bay there will be stamped the VIN, it will be KE70-123456 or something like that, it will tell you for sure and f@$k, look at the dish on those wheels, they are wicked! :) how wide are they? what tyres you running? Quote
Nitephyre Posted April 21, 2004 Report Posted April 21, 2004 it has the same front end as my panelvan, which is the first model they brought here (van that is) but on the sedan, we never got that front end here, it was strictly an overseas one, also because we never got the GL designation on a corolla.. where did you get it from? it's either a KE* or possibly a TE*, being an overseas model got any more pics? matrxe Posted April 22, 2004 Author Report Posted April 22, 2004 whoppsie.. i should have mentioned I'm from Malaysia. sorry but i just noticed that you guys are mainly from Australia! .. anyway i just got the picture Its a KE70 alright.. :D.. KE70R ? hmm only if i knew where to look.. :) hmm the wheels .. 14X7 its used ... found it in a used parts shop. the tyres.. unbranded (cheap). i am relatively new to cars. As for now my plan is for the rolla to be a feel good.. looks good and comfortable (quote) "cheap runaround" car. oh by the way.. err. is it okay for me to stick around with rollaclub? Quote
demuire Posted April 22, 2004 Report Posted April 22, 2004 Of course it's alright for you to stick around with Rollaclub... Where in Malaysia are you from? Quote
Medicine_Man Posted April 22, 2004 Report Posted April 22, 2004 KE70R just means its a right hand drive KE70.. hrrmm, found one similar HERE and HERE Quote
Super Jamie Posted April 22, 2004 Report Posted April 22, 2004 for a cheap runaround there are several things you can do to give it a tune and make sure it's in prime condition firstly, buy a gregories or haynes manual from ebay. they're usually pretty cheap then you'll learn how to do things like change the oil in your engine, gearbox and diff. rebuild your distributor, rebuild and tune your carburettor, you might give the spark plugs a bit of a clean. it's fairly easy to tidy up the engine bay, paint or polish a few things, make it look like a nice neat car under the bonnet. get some new ignition leads and a new ignition coil if you like to make your car handle well, put new dampers in. ke70 (sedans) have coil springs on all wheels, as well as a 5 link rear end including a panhard bar. they can actually be made to handle quite well for a little early 1980s runabout. you can get lowered springs as well, to lower your car. whenever you do anything with the suspension you'll need a wheel alignment soon you'll be like the rest of us and want to make improvements like a faster engine, interior gadgets (tacho, oil pressure gauge, vac gauge, etc), bigger brakes, fully adjustable suspension, race seats and rollcage :) yay! Quote
demuire Posted April 23, 2004 Report Posted April 23, 2004 And being from Malaysia (I would assume you are actually living in Malaysia) you can get it all done CHEAP :) Quote
matrxe Posted April 24, 2004 Author Report Posted April 24, 2004 hmm.. the engine looks dirty but it is not as bad as it looks. :) . my brother takes the car to his construction site everyday so i guess the polishing thingy can wait. The engine was overhauled (rebuilt) last year. Carburetor, master pump cylinder, clutch plate and starter are new. When I bought the car, it acted kinda funny because the engine just stalled when i press the clutch (while the car was running) and the engine started again when the clutch was released(in gear while the car was running). it was the carburetor and it had to be replaced. curent issues .. 1. well the headlights are dim. Someone told me it can be fixed by adding a relay. but i noticed the reflector has worn out. i dunno maybe a relay will help. i certainly do not want to change the whole thing(headlights). 2. for a 1.3 engine.. i feel the fuel enomony isn't that great.. about 20mpg (city) maybe less. i was thinking of adding fuel optimizer. have you guys heard about it? matrxe Posted April 24, 2004 Author Report Posted April 24, 2004 uh by the way medicine_man.. how do you get your bumpers to shine like that?. :) ... any secret or they are simply new...? Quote
