thomo Posted October 1, 2006 Author Report Posted October 1, 2006 started on this project at last, after work yesterday i dragged out the ae71 i had put aside for parts and stripped it out, then i brought in the ae81 (?) i had put aside for the twin cam and stripped it out, then i dragged in the ke30 body 23 hours on the spanners later and i have h/duty rear inverted eyelet rear springs in, a ae71 wagon diff under it (100mm wider track), full ae71 eng. x,member with rack and pinion, 4age and 5 speed in! was going to wire it up tomorrow with the public holiday but i couldnt be stuffed, going to go see the kids instead Quote

dysolve Posted October 1, 2006 Report Posted October 1, 2006 thomo you are full of it, you are just going home and all you are going to do is smoke ya winnies and drink coffee, you would be better off working on the car, you could have gone for the worlds quickest engine conversion.... 48 hours from front cut to rego... but NO.. you are soft.... think of it you could have been driving it by now.... LOL.... just remember if you are going to be taking this thing home with you, you will have to stop every two k's up your driveway to replace oil and filters.... ( and his driveway is 25k's long) and its all dirt... did you finsh you $250 dollar falcon ute??? Quote
thomo Posted October 2, 2006 Author Report Posted October 2, 2006 $250 ute is runing good, on lpg anyway, the petrol is a little dodgy but with the price of the stuff... who cares i don't plan to use it i don't think I'm brave enough to drive this thing to my house the 4k in the other one got lively enough and if i loose it nobody would find me for days (guess i could slow down haha) a day off is needed, i need to get home an load up all the xt130 brake stuff i have there, and the 15" mags in the laundry, with the extra wheel track rwd mags arnt fiting under the guards Quote
thomo Posted October 4, 2006 Author Report Posted October 4, 2006 didnt plan on working on the car monday but after i dropped the kids back to their mothers i got a little bored so stuffed the XT130 struts in, 1.5 mm difference in the hole centers to the third arm! WHY!, frigging 20 minuits with the puller to change some bloody part that didnt need to be different, thanks toyota stop reading the holden guide to building cars 3 more hours on the tally board Quote
Toddski Posted October 4, 2006 Report Posted October 4, 2006 Where would the fun be if it all went together first go... Looking forward to seeing it on the track. Has the wiring been sorted finally? Remind me - did the AE82 engine donor have any wheels? Might have to come and pick through the remains and make an offer on a few bits... Quote
thomo Posted October 20, 2006 Author Report Posted October 20, 2006 Here are some pics finally, excuse the mess, remember, it's a work in progress still Quote
Hokey Posted October 24, 2006 Report Posted October 24, 2006 Nice work :) What have you had to modify to get the rack and pinion to work? are you expecting issues with bump steer at all? Cheers, Calvin  Quote
thomo Posted October 25, 2006 Author Report Posted October 25, 2006 i trimmed down an ae71 engine x,member, reshaped the ends a little with the oxy, and re drilled it to suit the ke30 (added some plate to strengthen around the new holes) 4age dropped right in on the mounts seemed easyer than making mounts with the added benefit of the rack and pinion everything clears underneath ae71 steering collom (the what?)fitted onto the rack at a good angle, went throught the firewall without modification, and bolted to the pedal box fine with a little violence to get it under the dash, the base of the collom (that home made word again) is a bit of a shit to flush up to the firewall but thats about it Quote
Corolla_Kid Posted October 25, 2006 Report Posted October 25, 2006 far out man, you do some quick work!! Quote
