Super Jamie Posted May 11, 2004 Report Posted May 11, 2004 hey, there's plenty you can do to these motors for a bit of cheap power. the 1200 is called a 3k, the 1300 is called a 4k. whack a 3k head on a 4k and you raise the compression, nice and easy power. you can change the carb for a bigger one, get more air in which means more power. on a stock motor, something like a factory 1600 carb (gemini, datsun, toyota) makes a good mod, or a weber dcd, a dgv is probably too big. you can also use SUs or sidedrafts, but you usually want to pay someone to set these up really properly. run it on bp ultimate (no additives needed for unleaded) and set your ignition timing to 10 or 12. put extractors and a 2" exhaust on it (no bigger). improve your ignition system, lots of people give good reports on transistor coils (ie: bosch gt40), get some nice low resistance ignition leads check out my faq for some info on these cars, welcome to owning an oldcorolla :) Quote
demuire Posted May 11, 2004 Report Posted May 11, 2004 Tie rod ends - Go get yourself a set of pullers. You'll love them to death :) Quote
Medicine_Man Posted May 11, 2004 Report Posted May 11, 2004 A big f@$k-off sledge hammer usually comes in handy when parts like your tie rod ends refuse to budge :) "If all else fails, use a bigger hammer!" Quote
Xany Posted May 11, 2004 Report Posted May 11, 2004 thats the way med man....... hang on a tic while i put down this 4 pound slegdy and getmy 9 pound out.....:) Quote
Teddy Posted May 11, 2004 Report Posted May 11, 2004 lol - i spoze cutting them off is a bad idea, so ill go with the get a bigger hammer idea lol Quote
demuire Posted May 11, 2004 Report Posted May 11, 2004 Yes cutting them off is a bad idea. The big hammer idea is cool, except just be careful you don't bend anything you're not meant to. Also it can put a lot more stress on things like your steering knuckles if you bash them with the hammer, and stress fractures on steering knuckles is no fun. Pullers are fun. For real. I have like a MASSIVE set of pullers, and apart from the trusty "wire brush on angle grinder" I'd say that my pullers are the most awesome thing ever :) Quote
