demuire Posted June 1, 2004 Report Posted June 1, 2004 Handbrake cables on a KE3x/5x are not the same length. The passenger side one is about 2 inches longer, and that difference is a HUGE difference. If you put them in the wrong way around, your handbrake will not work. Quote
andrew Posted June 1, 2004 Report Posted June 1, 2004 is that why it's not working? if so i can get another couple you can try. i can give them to someone at the cruise and they can pass them onto you if you want? Quote
demuire Posted June 1, 2004 Author Report Posted June 1, 2004 Yes that was one of the reasons why it wasn't working, and it's wrecked the shorter handbrake cable as well (it rubbed all the paint off my chassis rail and melted on the exhaust). But no worries, got the cable off the other diff and the cables are all sorted now. Handbrake works almost as well as the old drums were in the beginning now, still not 100% but a hell load better than it was the other day. Hopefully they'll "wear in" like the old ones did too... Have to rebleed the brakes again tonight, I think when I reassembled the drums I got a bit of air in the system. Quote
irokin Posted June 1, 2004 Report Posted June 1, 2004 just to add to this KE30 jap spec hand brake cables and backing plates will fit on a KE20 no sweat Quote
demuire Posted June 1, 2004 Author Report Posted June 1, 2004 And KE30 jap spec handbrake cables will fit on KE55 aus spec drums :) Quote
irokin Posted June 1, 2004 Report Posted June 1, 2004 we accually compared the two backing plates...they are identical...even the shoes...slaves are the same (PBRs) edit: oh i don't just mean theyre the same brand...they are the same internally (we rebuilt KE30 ones and the KE20 ones at the same time...) Quote
Super Jamie Posted June 1, 2004 Report Posted June 1, 2004 all the backing plates have the same bolt pattern, even ke10 ones i believe, but everything else about them is different ke20 and 30 jap handbrakes are different, as the backing plate spaces the shoes out further on a ke30, as their axle flange is longer. but yes, the internal bits are the same Quote
TOMsGPTurbo Posted June 1, 2004 Report Posted June 1, 2004 Why would only one wheel lock up on my hand brake ... thats how it feels like anyhow. Quote
TOMsGPTurbo Posted June 1, 2004 Report Posted June 1, 2004 4 wheel disc's sir, when go around a corner sometimes it makes funny howling sound. Quote
Felix Posted June 1, 2004 Report Posted June 1, 2004 all the backing plates have the same bolt pattern, even ke10 ones i believe, but everything else about them is different no, the ke10 series bolt pattern is different to all later cars. otherwise i would have upgraded long ago. Quote
TOMsGPTurbo Posted June 2, 2004 Report Posted June 2, 2004 oh bother :) No clicking sounds... but maybe it could be a wheel bearing on the way out :) Quote
andrew Posted June 10, 2004 Report Posted June 10, 2004 hey fook how's hal's brakes going? are they any better yet? Quote
