Ok Daniel - that's what I thought it was, so does that mean in my ordinary Nanna driving, the blow off valve isn't blowing off? Perhaps this is why the black smoke happens only when I give a boot (and the pssshtttt happens) then back off?? I thought the turbo kicks in about 3000rpm? so would the BOV be quieter or not kick in until I'm up around the 5000 mark??? Haven't got the pod on, perhaps I'll put it on....what do I need to do? Of course I won the drag, I wouldn't be bragging otherwise!!! Today I flew past a WRX on takeoff, maybe he wasn't trying...never mind it felt good :) Lesley :)

Hey, I got my info today in the post! However, it says that gates open at 8.45am so do we still want to be there at 8.00??? Lesley

Daniel, I think I have to get a little more used to the car before I can manage that :y: Although, I did do a nice change from 2nd to 5th that I was quite happy with. oh, I have a question for you. You know when you rev it upto about 5500rpms and it makes that psssshhhh noise? What is it? The reason I ask is that since I've been Nanna-ing the car I've not had the black smoke...until tonight, I whipped through the gears upto about 120klms (I noticed how fast I was going and backed off) and there was a HUGE cloud of black smoke, hubby and daughter with in their car behind me and said it smelt like fresh mandarines *yummy*. Oh, tonight I had a bit of a drag with a *gosh, can't remember what it was* and I gave it a boot in first front wheels were spinning like crazy, but I managed to keep it straight and managed to chirp into 2nd *first time in the rolla*! No speeding tickets yet...touch wood Lesley :P

The Fat Man Broke My Seat!
SoulSearcher replied to RollaGurl's topic in Rollaclub Social (Off-Topic)
RollaGurl, Take it back, why should you be held responsible for someone else damaging your car. If they dented the front 1/4 panel, you'd complain wouldn't you??? Take it back, explain what you think happened and then ask them what they're going to do about it. Make them pay for the repair. Lesley -
hiya, ok, 8.00am across the road from the museum in the foodland car park....I'll be there. There's just the three of us??? Oh, has anyone heard ANYTHING about the cruise on Saturday where it is, what time etc? Has anyone received any information at all in the mail, like entry numbers, fliers etc..? Lesley

LOL :P I've been slowly getting used to it, it's not so bad now that I've come to expect it. I think I have built up some muscles in my arms!!! I'm starting to take off slower and then give it a bit of a kick then change up and repeat until I'm in third when I zoom off. I was given "drag" lessons on Friday night (kids in the back seat) and I was getting nervous so wasn't taking off properly, everyone was giving me sh*t, it was very frustrating! I gave up and went home... then returned later by myself and didn't do too badly :) Lesley :)

Just a quick note about the KE55 - I had a 1980 one as my first car. I hit a kangaroo in it, reversed out of a drive way too quickly and ripped off the front bumper. I had a friend smash into the back of me - I was stationary and she was doing 60 - I went sailing across the main intersection in woodside and luckily I wasn't hit by anything else. It went into the repair shop and while it was there someone broke into it and stole my speakers, stereo, seat covers and car mats and then smashed all the windows! Luckily all of that was covered by insurance. I used to hang out down in glenelg and do a bit of drag racing and doughnuts in it. LOL I blew up the gear box and then the engine and my Dad and I fixed it, I drove it all the way to Sydney doing 80klms/h (because I had to run in the new engine according to my Dad). I thrashed the crap out of it and that little car kept on going :P Gotta love em!

I particulalry like the road between Stirling and Marion (the road you Valandor) but it's a cow of a road if you're stuck behind someone, there's no-where to overtake them! I like the back roads around Lenswood, Lobethal, and Woodside. The old Eagle on the Hill Road, not as good now that they've made it one lane and 60klms but still fun. The back way from South Road to Victor. The coast road to and past Rapid Bay. But my all time favourite road would have to be the one between Meadows and Ashbourne (on the way to Strathalbyn or Victor) it's a 100 zone and there's turns and twisties galore .... all the way through. It's exhilarating!

Howdy, I'm in the hills so to get to Birdwood it will only take me about 1/2 hour. If I was to go to Parafield and then to Birdwood it'll add over an hour to my trip. Could we not meet somewhere closer to Birdwood??? Lesley :P

I have a laser printer. Can someone email me the flyers and I'll print them. Lesley

Howdy, I've had my car for three weeks now and I've got a stupid question: Torque steer in a front wheel drive, yes it's super embarrasing, but what can you do about it? I thought about LSD, but have no idea what's involved in it, work wise and $$$, and I'd have to wait until the warranty runs out. I'm trying to learn when to change gears so it doesn't happen, but occasionally I scare myself sh*tless when one hands changing gears and the other is trying to keep the car in a straight line. It's especially scary when you're going through the twisties and double de clutching and it happens. Lesley :(

Do we need anything for the Toyoshow? Marquee's, chairs etc? I have a Marquee and chairs and I'm happy to bring them. Lesley :)

The factory warranty expires at 100,000klms. So they will monitor at each service, and when they can pinpoint it they'll replace it under warranty. Lesley

ok, UPDATE Good news: It wasn't the timing belt, timing chain, or anything to do with the timing belt tensioners. :) Bad news (sort of): Option 1: They're not sure if it's something to do with the water pump or the idlers(?) but they wanted me to buy a new water pump and idlers (total cost including labour $550) BUT if I wait until it "fails" then they'd pay for it under the warranty. But they're not sure it's either of those two things. :( Option 2: Monitor the noise until they can pin-point it then they'll replace what ever it is under warranty. So it's not as bad as I thought it was going to be, but the thought of having my car "pulled apart" for a couple of days when I was expecting a routine service kind of freaked me out. Oh, RE: the back-fire : they were pretty impressed with the exhaust and said that the back fire was part of having the new exhaust, which also helped "performance wise", so in essence, to enjoy it you big girl! Thanks for listening guys. Lesley :(
-
Thanks guys  I just wondered if the timing chain would be covered??? What annoys me is my DAD told me to have the noise checked...god is he ever wrong?!!! I'm still waiting to hear from them, I'll keep you posted. Lesley

I'm sorry guys, but I HAVE to vent. I am supremely PI*SED OFF :( More at myself than anything else. *Kicks self* Ok, here's whats going on. For four months I searched for a 2001 Sportivo Limited Edition Turbo (the one just like my avitar). An finally I found one. It had low K's (48,000) had only two owners, the guy was selling as he bought a house). I test drove it, had a couple of friends who are mechanically minded look over it got the thumbs up from them, and I was going to get the RAA to check it out prior to buying it, just for EXTRA piece of mind, I mean it was still under factory warranty, low K's, the guy who had it took care of it, it was regularly serviced..blah blah blah I had some $ coming from my solicitor, so made an offer. But of course, the solicitor was late with the cheque, so I had to stall a bit, then christmas and new years came and still no cheque, I was super pi*sed at the solicitors. FINALLY the cheque came and in my excitement to get the car, I forgot to get the RAA inspection. But then, what could really happen, (read second paragraph again). I picked up the car and I was EXCITED, I was so pleased. On a longer drive it felt pokey, it had grunt and driving a turbo for the first time, ... I slightly pooped my pants!!! (figuratively speaking). and wondered if the occasional backfire was normal. Called my mechanic and he said turbos sometimes run rich and that's what could be happening, but we'll pop it on the dyno and have a look-see. I took it around to my friends and family to show it off (I was so proud). My Dad (an ex mechanic) looked it over and said "I'm not really uptodate with these turbos, but there's a noise down there *points to water pump pully* that you should have checked out when you have your 50,000 service". me "ok dad, thanks!" Driving home, I was fanging it up the freeway in fifth, had to slow down and shift to fourth to over take a car and I looked out the back and there was a huge cloud of black smoke, was that me?! Checked the guages, everything was fine, no loss of power when it happened, was it me? I wasn't sure. It happened again a couple of days ago. *shit* I got the stereo upgraded, arranged for a turbo timer. I've washed it four times in the last two weeks. I booked it in for it's 50,000 service with Toyota two days after I got it the appointment was for today. I've clocked up over 2,000 klms in the first two weeks, which brings me to today. *do you get that I love my car* Took it into Toyota for it's service and they showed me the Turbo timer they're putting in, and I showed them where I wanted them to put it  .... hidden in the compartment to the right of the steering wheel that nothing else fits in. I also pointed out the back fires, what I think is normal turbo winding up noise, but wanted to be sure, and the noise my dad told me to point out and left the car with them. I got a call from them at about 3.30pm the guy said that he and the three mechanics that they conferred with were MAJORLY concerned about the water pump area noise, that they think it's something to do with the timing belt and they want to take it all apart and have a good look at it. Ca Ching I'm thinking. So now I'm shi&tting myself. Problems "with the timing belt" can be serious can't they?? And they haven't even had a chance to check out the other things.... I'm kicking myself that I may have bought a lemon, and its my own damn fault for not getting an RAA inspection. I just feel so stupid. I did this to myself, by myself without any assistance from anyone, and I was so pleased with myself. Bugger. I want to cry. :) - BTW I'm a girly girl, so it's ok for me to cry **end of rant** Lesley :(

Oh, don't be discouraged by the time it's taken us for the wiring to get done, we've just been REALLY slack  What pis#ed me off the most that it came from an MR2 and went into an MR2 and we've STILL had problems, I spent three weeks looking for the wiring diagram, all to no avail, but if we weren't so slack, we would have taken it to an auto electrician and had them do it. So totally ignore what I said :) Lesley :(
-
uhhh there were only about 150 put into MR2's and they were released only in the JDM in 1998/1999. There was a small amount released in the Celica's (in about 1998/1999) but I'm not too sure how many. The biggest pain in the arse for us was the wiring, it took less than a day to get the old motor out and the new motor in, but over 3 weeks to organise the wiring and it still isn't sorted out (it's been a year!) Lesley

I re-read the information, you can only enter one, so I've decided to go into the Matron of Modified  Entry form is being sent off today, I put in that I was going to be part of the ROLLA CLUB is that right?? Lesley :)
-
Well I'm in a little bit of a quandry.... I have an AE112R Sportivo Limited Edition. It's been modified by: Mags Stereo Speakers Amp so no big mods, BUT which category should I go into??? Street or Matron of Modified????? could I go into both??? Lesley

in SA you have a choice of 1 year, 5 years or 10 years. I decided I wanted to look fabulous in my license for ages, so I got a 10 year licence. I am an old fart

sorry to say this guys, but Nortons sucks butts. NOD32 is the way to go. Less intrusive than Nortons, cheaper than Nortons, BETTER than Nortons, and NOD32 has won best Virus protection for the last three years in a row!!! www.nod32.com.au - you can download a 30 day trial. as for spyware, Adaware is the best I've found. There's also a program called CWshredder for the coolweb search virus. Just remember - in order to protect your PC, you MUST remember to REGULARLY UPDATE DEFINITIONS!!!!!

Holy S*&$ Batman A BEAMS in a Corolla?? We put a BEAMS Red Top in the MR2 and she screams! I can only imagine what she'd do in a corolla...OMG - I'm in shock. Now I'm going to do a search to find out what you guys have been up to with BEAMS!!! Lesley

My old white bluebird is called BINKY (from the books of author Terry Pratchett), Binky is Death's Horse  Our MR2 is called Reaper (also from Terry Pratchett). The Roller I'm thinking of calling it Member (it's Gold) from Austin Powers, or Keeper (as spoken by Gold Member in Austin Powers), but he's new (yes he's a he!), so I might take some time to think of something that will stick. Lesley :)
