the only problem is the guy at Toyota says that it's not a warranty job as the ECU has been "modified", so where would I stand with that??? The ECU is a factory ECU, it's the "enhanced" one that came with the car. Maybe I'll take it to the city Toyota dealer for it's next service.... perhaps someone with a fresh set of eyes looking at it may have some ideas... Lesley Lesley

More saga's from my beloved rolla... It's been happening since I got the car...hmmm a month now there's the little backfires but the big problem I'm worried about is the plume of smoke I leave behind me every now and then...if I'm in the middle lane it spreads out half way over the inside and outside lanes. Some of the guys on the Toyoshow cruise told me I was blowing a bit of smoke (but then I was pushing it a bit). I thought it could be bad petrol, it was happening regularly when I was going up the freeway (from the city) with about a 1/4 of a tank of fuel, so I've changed where I buy my fuel from 4 or 5 times now, but it still happens. I'm due for the 60,000 service in about 3 or 4 weeks and I'll ask Toyota to look at it again then. Here's what happens: I live near the freeway and travel on it to and from home most of the time. When I approach the freeway usually I'm in 3rd (for the on ramp) I take it up to about 60-70 change up to 4th 70-90 then into 5th (90-110) - I usually don't go above 5000 rmp's I've only got to 6000rpm's about three times - when I've reached 110 I back off and when I look in my rearview mirror there's a HUGE cloud of blackish smoke, there's no unusual feel from the engine, no engine noise when this happens, there's no loss of power, and there's no abnormal guage readings. I've spoken to Toyota and they think it's an over fuelling issue due to the tweaked ecu and the only way to get rid of it is to go to someone who has the technology to "un-tweak" the ecu which will mean a loss of power but will hopefully stop the smoke. So, does anyone have any comment or alternative theory on the black smoke, or does anyone know someone who specialises in ecu tweaking in Adelaide? Lesley :P PS: There's also a new clunking noise happening feels like from the front of the car - I have NO IDEA what that could be....

at least in reverse it doesn't do the bunny jump wheel spin like it does in 1st. Probably because by the time I get to the top of the driveway the front wheels are off the ground...oh crap that sounds so bad....but it really isn't!

Hey! Guess what happened today! I was reversing out of my driveway and onto the road and I heard the turbo start to spool...in reverse I took my foot off the accelerator cause I didn't want to find out what happened next! I didn't know it did that! So it may be a stupid question, but is this normal? Lesley :o
