Garage Acrylic Paint Job Tips.
megamannz123 replied to megamannz123's topic in Automotive Discussion
I did consider 2k but from what I understand/read it is harder to paint, requires controlled conditions, and is highly toxic so I think Acrylic will be fine for the engine bay. -
G'day all, I'm about to paint my engine bay with some Acrylic from Autobarn. I have repaired all the rust with patches, removed and treated the rust under the battery tray and sanded it down with 320G. At this point I have a few small patches of bare metal which I will cover with etch primer and then rub down the whole lot with 600G? then apply the Yellow Acylic, probably three coats? not sure yet. Questions... Does the whole engine bay need primer or just the patches of bare metal? Is 600G OK to base and top coat over? or would 800 be better? Will it need a clear coat after the yellow? I have read yes and no but I'm thinking no as Acrylic should be kinda glossy once dry. Any tips for painting? I have all the gear, compressor, gun, reg, water trap, and a spare guard to practice on first. Cheers

Mag Wheel Polisher, Melbourne?
megamannz123 replied to megamannz123's topic in KExx Corolla Discussion
I found a guy in Coburg that is going to do them. $40 a wheel approx, will see how it goes. -
Hi all, I have a set of Performance Jelly Bean mags that I want to get polished properly. Does anyone know of a place in Melbourne they would recommend?

Not on the K series box. you might find this helpful. http://www.rollaclub.com/wiki/index.php?title=Tech:Engine/K_Series/Manual_Gearbox

It should pretty much be a straight swap. I have a K50 in my ke30 which replaced the Auto, all I needed was a drive shaft from a manual and then it went straight in. There are a couple of different shifter positions for the k50 box, one is slightly further back than the other but both bolt to the engine/drive shaft ok, you just might need to move the hole in the tunnel for the new shifter position if that's the k50 box you have.

Hard to diagnose without driving the car but also it may be the coil, crapping out at high revs or under load. Does it have a ballast resistor set up? that might be faulty or it may just be a crappy connection somewhere. On the other hand as previously mentioned it may in fact be a fuel issue? blocked/dirty carb, fuel filter or pump. All these things can cause problems too. Good luck!

5K Electronic Distributor Recommendations.
megamannz123 replied to megamannz123's topic in KExx Corolla Discussion
Cheers for all the great info! I think the Jaycar programmable unit will be a bit over the top for my application at the moment, but it does look very useful for another project. I have a 3K dizzy that is in good condition that I will use, I spoke to Performance Ignition Services here in Melbourne and am going to have that recurved to suit my engine specs. They also recommended the Pertronix system as a good electronic option instead of buying a new Chinese unit off ebay. It will keep the factory ke30 look yet replace the points system, and from their experience these are a reliable product. -
Hi all, I have the engine together and about to assemble the car, I want to fit a new dizzy, have it recurved to suit the cam etc. What would you recommend? have in your K series? I would prefer a electronic breaker system over the old points style. Electronic dizzy on ebay. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/121431798783?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649 or maybe something like this?... http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/121431798783?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649

Cheers? would the W55 and W58? also fit?

G'day, Just bought a 78 Corona wagon and want to put a five speed in it. What fits? Engine is a 18R, not modified at all just want lower revs on the highway? Cheapest best option?

Mine has had the shifter moved back, I was going to keep an eye out for a rear assembly so I can move it forward again.

Cheers Si, yes it is. I'm going to fit the K50 box first up so I don't have to butcher the interior. Will see how it goes and maybe fit the T50 later if it breaks.

Got the Exedy 6036HD, talked to several local suppliers but after reading a few comments on different forums I just went with Exedy as everone seems happy with them.

Ended up ordering a 24mm from Mako.com.au, $295 delivered, now just waiting for it to show up, 3 weeks and waiting.

Cheers, thanks for the info, I will do some hunting. I want something drivable as my Missus will want to drive sometimes!

G'day So what's the best solution for the K series engine to T50 box clutch for street driving. I bought a T50 that came with a three puck clutch that's no good for city driving. I'm running a worked 5K that should be about 100hp. Went to the clutch guy and he ordered a T22 clutch. That arrived and the clutch plate (190mm) fits the T50 gearbox box spindle (21 tooth) but the T22 pressure plate is too big for the K series flywheel. Will a T series flywheel bolt to the K series crank? or will it foul the K/T bell housing? Should I use a K50 box instead (which I also have) and use the heavy duty K series pressure plate I have and get a new clutch plate? or is there a clutch plate you can get that fits the T50 gearbox shaft and also fits in the K series pressure plate 180mm? Any ideas? K50 or T50 for 100hp ish engine? Will a K series clutch handle that kind of power? Cheers

Hi all, again! I have been speaking with Tony at http://www.mako.com.au I am going to order a sway bar. The standard one is 19mm, the listing they have is for a 22mm as an upgrade, but I was thinking of maybe going to a 24mm. Tony has said this will be no problem, but does anyone have any recommendations for ke30 sway bar size? experience? I can't see a problem with the 24mm over the 22mm, It will be a lot stiffer but will that cause any problems?

Hi all, I'm in the middle of restoring the front end on the ke30 and need to get my calipers re-zinc plated. Can anyone recommend a place in Melbourne that can do this, or have used before? Cheers
