How Much Can Be Machined From 5K Head?
megamannz123 replied to megamannz123's topic in KExx Corolla Discussion
thanks, that all makes sense. It's for a car I rarely drive and we live out of town so a big cam should be fine, I never go into town! I bought some Crows 4220 double springs today. That 150A does look tempting. I live in Gisborne Aus so I can get one here, I am from NZ though! -

Maybe I should put a different cam in it now, while its being built, something bigger. Wade 169? 280 degrees, 0.405" lift Camtech CT003 517 274deg, 0.442"lift Crow cams suggested this grind 286deg, 0.465" lift Thoughts? -
How Much Can Be Machined From 5K Head?
megamannz123 replied to megamannz123's topic in KExx Corolla Discussion
Took the head in today, going to take 40thou off. After closer inspection the vavles have been de-shouded and the intake ports have been cleaned up. With the new vavles/seals, double springs and seat cut it will be like new. The bottom end is a 5k 40 over with new pistons, rings, bushes, bearings, pushrods, lifters, seals etc. compression estimated at 10:1 and also putting a set of factory twins on it with the cam as mentioned earlier. Should be a bit of fun! 100hp? in a 900kg car. -

Thats a great idea! cheers My cam is Camtech 529-110 261deg duration and .417" lift. -
I have the bottom end complete but before putting the head on I'm having a three angle valve job and going to have a little more machined off the head. At the moment I have around 18cc combustion chamber which works out to about 9:1compression, I would like to take it up to about 10:1 so I figure a 13cc chamber will do it. Not sure how much that will work out to in machining off the head but I guess my engine guy will be able to work that out. Has anyone had their 5K head machined, if so how much? and did it work? blow up? recommendations? Will it be limited by the rocker/pushrod set up, I'm keeping the original hydro lifters.

Hi all, does anyone know what the standard comp ratio is on a 5k with D dished pistons? I have calculated mine at 9.8:1..... 81.5mm bore (1mm over std) 73mm stroke 22.5cc dish piston 17.5cc combustion chamber .6mm head gasket my head has been skimmed so I don't know what the original combustion chamber was, has anyone measured a std twin squish combustion chamber?

Air Compressor Recommendations, Please.
megamannz123 replied to megamannz123's topic in Automotive Discussion
Not sure about that? I can recommend these compressors at this price, after looking at a few different types and price ranges these are pretty good quality. The castings, build quality, fittings and metals are far better than all the cheap ones I looked at and on par with the better brands. Obviously early days but they run well, quiet and with a 2 year warranty I'm pretty happy. -

Just bought two Stanley 2.5hp 50l compressors. $399 each on sale. That gives me 380lpm FAD when plummed together for less than $800, 24 month warranty too. Bargain. Works out to be the best CFM/FAD for the price and with a warranty too. -

Will 13" wheels still fit on the xt130 front struts? Or is the disc and backing plate too large. -

Buying My First Mig Welder, What To Look For?
megamannz123 replied to megamannz123's topic in Automotive Discussion
How many amps is your Magmate? is it the 180p? must be pretty powerful to weld axle mounts. I noticed that it only adjusts down to 50amps, and from what I have read 30amps is about where you need to get down to for body panels? -

Cheers, I'm in Aus too, but havent heard of Speedgas. How much does a bottle cost? refill? I though you had to rent them and for the amount I weld that would be silly. I recon a cross member would be about the thickest I would be working on. -
G'day all, I think i'm going to buy myself a gasless mig for christmas, I haven't owned one before and to be honest haven't used one much either, but have experience with oxyacetylene. What can you recommend to look for? amps, adjustment, options and features to look for? It will be for automotive stuff, exhausts, crossmembers, body panels etc... would something like this be suitable? http://www.supercheapauto.com.au/online-store/products/Weldskill-135-MIG-Welder.aspx?pid=346523#Cross Has anyone bought one in the past that they can recommend? Cheers

Thanks for the offer but I'm after brand new ones? -
Any recommendations for extraxtors for the 5k? I seem to get a massive difference on prices when I ring between Repco, Autobarn, Supercheap etc. Where have you purchased them from? and what did they cost? a good brand? Pacemaker or Redback seem to be two options available.

I found a set of xt130 front struts for $150, that sounds reasonable? do you think. Might grab these give them a freshen up and fit them. Should go straight in? -
Repco, Bursons, Supercheap have none. Toyota want $91 each!! Anyone have some hydro lifters lying around they don't want?

Ke30 Front Brake Discs Upgrade, What Fits?
megamannz123 replied to megamannz123's topic in KExx Corolla Discussion
Yeah I think a rebuild of what I already have might be the go, as I do want to keep the car as Toyota intended as much as possible. Reason for the upgrade is that I often travel in 110km zones and stopping from that speed down a hill is a bit much for the old brakes, already have new hoses and master cylinder, so discs, pads, rear shoes etc should help. I just thought there might be a bigger disc/calliper that would bolt straight on. Cheers
