Thanks for the reply mate Armstrong Nissan in Tbar can get a full set of brand new a12 rods posted up for 130 bucks, if I can't buy a set from an R.C member. Or you suggest holding off til I get the head on and check the lengths, then ?

pretty much confirms they must have had a change of hands these last few ish years? i know me, personally used, and recommended them for years, back in the day, now i'll even avoid their street one thing i am now concerned about RE the solid lifter and pushrod change is this: the solids I'm getting are same dimensions of my existing hydro's, so i can't use my 4k pushrods as originally planned(they measured up to the right overall length, with the gutted 5k hydro) and i can't use my 5k push rods, that are/should be the right length, but they don't have the cup for the rocker adjustment to sit on. so I'm now chasing A12 pushrods, yeah? rang toowoomba wreckers and they have none, so anyone who has some or can point me in a direction, or show that i have overlooked something, i'd appreciate it. Zowie

stu beat me to it :-) and np mate. thanks for the info

LOL..! and yeah thanks there mate. Gary seemed real excited about it, he says he can nearly halve the weight. oh and for anyone who may or may not read this, DO NOT USE HURST AND BRUNNER machine shop in Tbar. i used to swear by them, ten or so years ago, when i was a regular 'Modrat'. now there is some young guys there who are fcking terribad. no service skills at all, not to mention what happened personally to me: *i drop the flywheel off on monday morning, he says "hmm, i don't think i can take much off her, but i'll have a go" 1st sign to be a lil worried. he then says it wont be ready til late wednesday, so i call him at lunch today, as I'm nearby, to see if its ready early, or W/e. he replies " oh darnit, not yet, but definitely by 3pm today" so i wait til 4pm, and i rock up there. at least 5 guys 'working' in the shop, they all see me, but refuse to acknowledge my presence. then i notice my flywheel sitting on a stand right where i left it monday, and i lean over to luke and say" thats exactly, where i left it, hasnt moved, bet they havent done it" finally, Brad(think his name was) recognizes me and goes "oh shoot, i'm so sorry bro, i forgot, it wont be done this arvo" i say "too right it wont", grab it and leave. Luke then hooks me up with Gary from Repower: http://www.truelocal.com.au/business/repower-engine-reconditioning/toowoomba-city and it will be ready by tomorrow arvo. only good news is, i got my timing chain today..! and will have the solids by tomorrow, Rob, can link a part number then, mate.

wow, just, WOW..! and 50k on it? i assume you saved a lot on labour etc then. well done
-
very nice mate..! where you get them from? will be chasing something similar soon
-
So, after much research, trial and error, it looks like holden red 308 lifters are the same! Ordered a set of crow solids and will be here this arvo. At least, if this works, its another cheap option for R.C. members Pics and more info when they arrive
-
thanks guys. ringing toyota first thing in the morning
-
what he said..! very neat job, mate, and secksee..!
-
I'm hoping he got the wrong ones sent up, is all. will take them back in in the morning. thanks for the link mate. thats a handy reference
-
some minor hiccups this arvo. the lifters turned up but are the wrong ones(above in plastic) so, from memory, in the above pic from top to bottom, is 4k solid, then my original 5k hydro, then the wrong lifter... close-up of the 5k hydro vs the wrong one, a sht load bigger... at least the springs turned up, and... fitted ok..! so, valve grind done, head cleaned and ready to go back on. just waiting on the flywheel lightening to be finished tomorrow arvo, so i can fit it, the clutch, and lift the engine back in. if all goes well, i may be back on the road this weekend
-
ah, ok, thanks for clarifying, mate
-
yeah as luke said, i got mine from a mate at P4cars(may have been mates rates?) but still, they wouldnt be much dearer than the price i posted, if it was. ask for John, tell him Zowie sent ya. it will save a lot of banter/explaining. i have been picking his brain all this week, lol hvy duty crow valve springs, as well as the lifters, arrived today, will post a pic when i go pick them up
-
lol, yeah mate. assuming Murphy's Law, i'm sure something will..
-
like these shiny links to line up with the notches? there are nothing like that on the old chain, only a 'join'
-
i see the notches on both gears mate, but there are no 'shiny' or marked links on the chain to work off? so i assume the chain is 'wrong'? or it just isnt there? all the books i have on these, suggest the chains have a shiny or marked link, top and bottom to line up with the notches on the gear. correct me if I'm wrong
-
picked up the clutch today from parts4cars in toowoomba, for 82 bucks now, with many thanks to Rob(Towe) and Luke(Ae82something, lol), i am going the 5k solid lifter conversion. ordered 3F lifters for $5.50 each, running 4k pushrods and rocker gear and should be sweet much like posted here: http://www.rollaclub...ter-conversion/

the old timing chain i was talking about. no marks on either side of the chain, as discussed earlier the flywheel as it was, at 7.95kgs, right b4 i took it to be lightened inside the bellhousing, prior to clean(also the reason i decided to order a new clutch) lifted the carpet to remove the shifter, and saw this... more to come
