  1. earth wire from alt was melted, i replaced it, checked all wires for cracks and such. Engine fuse blows when alt is plugged in???? no lose connections or anything. Could be the regulator?? Also found that while ignition ON the coil got very hot and so did the ignition pack. WTF? I'm so lost.......
  2. 12 V at engine fuse, I had a 25a fuse but it calls for 15a. I hooked up the alt and it started smoking the fuse was too much to pop. i put a 8a (I'm out of fuses) plugged alt in, turned key on, no smoking. when i went to test the fuse it popped ????? I have some wiring issues so I'm going to replace those then try again
  3. Help! So I put MSD 6AL and blaster coil in the 2tc for my TE31. Car ran awesome, then no-start issues, charged batt, and new alt. even used a jump and my truck batt which has way more cranking amps. did the msd spark test, msd works fine. replaced cap, rotor, pickup coil, plugs, cleaned all ground straps and batt straps and posts, replaced starter(cause i fried the old one trying to start the dam car) after new starter, car cranked up and ran then died after 3min. the msd led light should flash each time the dizzy spins past the pickup coil. well it doesnt and no spark again, when cranking the msd doesnt blink with rotation, it did for a minute but stopped. new pickup coil reads 130 ohms which should be ok. old reads 110 Bypassed msd to old ignition module and coil. No spark still!!!! :wtf: What did I miss, something simple I'm guessing but my head hurts from trying. :bash: :hmm:  8/ :drgrim: :bright: :danger:
  4. Bad starter, got another 'new' one and....she fires! Then dies and wont start again..... :bash: Now I'm getting no spark at the plugs again but the msd is sparking just fine. Does anyone know how to test the pickup coil? Should there be more air gap than stock with MSD?
  5. Today i took the 'new' starter in, and yep the bendix was bad, :lovin: I have to wait till the new one comes in and I'll make sure they test it before I leave.
  6. New pickup coil, rotor, cap. Now I get nice blue spark. Starter fails.... fresh battery and its slow cranking not enough to fire engine. New starter, only clicks. I cleaned all grounds and cables and battery connections. Now you can here it spin, then click but it's not engaging the flywheel. My guess is the starter is bad, its a refurbished one so maybe i got a bad one, ill take it to the store and swap.
  7. too lean, try again with the timing and carb ignition stays on after key is off, causing "diesel out" fault in ignition
  8. Pickup coil ohms 160ish which is good according to the book MSD has 12v to red ignition wire when key to ON position MSD spark test works, I get spark to the dizzy cap No spark to plugs Replace plug wires, cap, rotor this weekend and see what happens...
  9. Dammit! So I put some UNI filter pods over the horns and oiled them, toooooo much restriction the car drove like crap to my new house then I parked it and now it wont start. Got a new alt. As old one went bad. Checked for spark from MSD unit and zapped my heart a few times, definatley sparky. Gas present...for some reason when i disconnect a plug wire and hook up a spark plug and ground it to car then crank to see if the plug is sparking i get nothing, I know the msd and coil work and sprk is going to the dizzy. I have electronic or magnetic in the dizzy, no points. 1. Could the magnet thing go bad? 2. Could the cap or rotor be at fault? They are good visually, not burnt.
  10. Now it's time to order up a cam. double valve springs, While thats in motion Ill have the exaust fixed as well. What cam grind should i run? The most common question, I found one on toyotanation.com 241 duration @ .050 .502 lift for $160. says it pulls good from 4000 to 8000rpm.
  11. Woooooo! The new 45's and MSD make a huge difference! Just point and punch the pedal, it's awesome! Checked rear brakes and they were covered in oil, need to change out the bearing seals and check bearings. Brakes look good, then on to the bleeding which 3 attempts to complete, got a mighty vac and happened to suck the resavoir dry 3 times which means Full bleed starting which MC. :bash: Right adjuster was frozen so i heated it up and got it turning then took all apart, greased and reassembled. Broke Right side bleeder valve, bought new wheel cylinder and bled again. Test drive = although its hard to see with the wind in your eyes since the windscreen is removed. Problem: No headlights, I'll check relay first. Also need to solve charge light issue. I hooked up a wire before MSD to the coil + to tell the regulator to use the alt. when running. Now if I hook that up the Engine fuse blows....... The coil is obvoiusly mo bigga now so maybe i need a fatter fuse or the regulator can't handle it. Assistance and comments appreciated...
  12. Here's some other work I've done too: cleaned up the dizzy new soft mount for the webers msd fire power
  13. i ordered a new cable and ill make a bracket. should be done by next week! ill be stoked to start it up. Also bought a synch tool so i can get dcoe's to match.
  14. WOOOOO! just got the MSD mounted and wired. I just have to bolt up the carbys which i just put a softmount kit on. whoever had it before me put a washer between the carb and gasket causing vac leak. I'll re set timing and fire it up. ~~~I need pics of dcoe throttle cable hookup though. just to get an idea of how to route the cable under the carbs. I can't find any pix of a 2tc with how the cable runs. Help is appreciated!!!
  15. Ill start the research! Thanks for all the help!
  16. I have a magnetic pickup in the dizzy. I just got my 6al MSD with rev limiter in and blaster 2 coil. My next plan is to set the carbys up and run the msd. I think its still running rich so I might jet down. How do you know what size jets the carby's have? Is there a # on them or some way to measure?. Thanks!
  17. Its about 4-5 inches, it can difer depending on the horns and intake manifold though
  18. someone tell me what this means please? from the hanes manuel regarding replacing the dizzy, "continue turning until the notch on the crankshaft pulley is opposite the specified static (BTDC) timing mark on the timing cover" So the BTDC is 10 before. Is opposite 10 after or like 180 of the 10before???
  19. I think i find a electronic one at the junk yard. Do i need to hook up vacuum advance with dual dcoe's? i see BRD removes the vacuum advance
  20. So i got the timing sort of set and the best runs!@!! I did some research and its time to upgrade to msd for all that fuel i need to burn  i got the msd 6al and blaster kit. what do i need to put in the dizzy. I read some electronic ignition stuff but I'm not sure. keep the points set up? get an electronic dizzy? If so is ther a part to swap or the whole dizzy? Thanks!!!
  21. WOW! i think i stick with what i got until i need something if i get more HP. pics will follow after install
  22. its a S series, that's what the plate on the car said that i pulled it off of. 8 bolts. should bolt right in for now.
  23. sounds so simple, done so simple, now it wont start. i have the 5 psi regulator inline, everything is hooked up now. i tried to start the dang thing and it wont fire up, it sounded like it wanted to but the negative cable got really hot???? :hmm: Now the batt is out of juice. I had to take the dizzy out to fit the carbys so i put it back in but it might be backwards. I flipped it both ways and got what sounded like back fires one way and nothing the other.
  24. HELP! Trying to set up my dual webers. I would like a model or pic of someones set up so that i can go off of. I would like to hook up a fuel pressure regulator, fuel pressure guage set up. Thanks!
