So FINALLY got the tie rod off the rack end, geez what a mission! :) Got it off with visegrips on the rack end and pipe wrench on the tie rod. Wrench scratched up the tie rod tube pretty bad. Might replace it just cause it is out. Attached a pic below for peoples reference. Thanks for the tips everyone, much appreciated. dpb the shocks I've got for the rear are shorter but front ones are standard length, due to the narrow crappy stock ke70 struts.

I'm thinking about putting springs in while I've got the struts out etc. I'll be putting superlow Lovells springs in the front. It's a risk cause they might knock it back for rwc. Should still be legal ride height tho. Got kings springs with a coil chopped off and a pair of KYB vl wagon shocks for the back. Might Just do all this before I take it back for rwc. Seems stupid to waste my time doing the front twice. We'll see. Still can't get the damn tie rod off the rack end, I'll try again soon. Took the struts to a mech down the road and got him to get the shock nut off with the rattle gun, too easy :)

Ah ok, that's thinking. So bolt the tie rod back in and then just turn the rack end with a spanner (14mm I think) to unscrew it?
-
You mean the bolt that sort of pinches the tie rod onto the rack end? Yep I've loosened that right off. Just can't get it to turn. I'll buy some new visegrips and give it another shot soon. I didn't try too hard as my crappy visegrips tend to slip and I didn't want to scratch up the tie rod too badly.
-
Yup I've popped the tie rod out of the steering arm with a puller, that way easy. But can't get the tie rod to unscrew from the rack end.

I'm getting rid of the shocks I take out and putting in new ones so it doesn't matter if I scratch them up. I won't have time to do anything today because of uni stuff I need to get done. Any tips on getting the tie rod off the rack end? I've sprayed it with a lot of wd40 and was just going to try and turn it with a spanner on the rack end and vice grips on the tie rod. Good plan?

Did a little work on the car today, pretty frustrating tho.. Couldn't get the strut nut off the strut top, shock shaft just kept spinning, tried with wheels on the ground etc. Will try a few things tomorrow. Also couldn't get the tie rod off the rack end to change the rack boot. Might have to get some new vise grips, mine are rubbish. FYI I ended up getting brake hoses from Better Brakes in Bayswater, $35 each, were on shelf. Also got the rack boot from repco which was easy.

Thanks for all the tips guys, I actually bought a jack today from Repco. Just one of their pro-lift 2000Kg fullsize jacks. Was only $139 with free axle stands. Seems pretty good, it's a little smaller than some which is good and super quick, only 2-3 pumps all the way to the top. Did some work on the car today and realized why I stopped working on cars! Frustrating day! I'll get there tho. Thanks again.

Cheers for the replies guys. I figure even if I wanna get a good full-size one down the track when I've got more space n money, the little one will still come in handy. The ones they have at Repco have a lower saddle height than most I've looked at. The full size TTI ones at total tools are only 139 tho, we'll see

Prob hoping to spend $100 max.

Who's is that ke70 wagon with the tassie plates? It's always parked right near my place in Brunswick I think. Always notice it, looks good. -
Hi everyone, I'm thinking about buying a new trolley jack. I had a full-size trolley jack but sold it when I got rid of my last car :( As I am short on 2 key things, money and space, I'm thinking about getting a smaller trolley jack. As I've never used one of these before I was just wondering if anyone had any experience with them. I've prob only use it a couple of times a year. This is the sort of size I was looking at, prob not that exact model but just to give you an idea. http://www.kincrome....rtnumber=K12061 Will these jacks lift each end of a rolla no probs? Do they lift them high enough to get them on jack stands etc? Thanks for your help.

Thanks bro, jus chucked the venetian in. Looks shmick :) Kid-Ae I found some brake hoses on eBay. Thanks for the tip. $60 for the pair delivered. That's cheaper than everywhere else I've gotta price from so might just do that. I might put a wanted ad up first incase someones got a good 2nd hand set laying around. Anyone got any tips on a good place to get a rubber steering rack end boot from? Thanks to Ben-89 for the indicator lens too. Was good to chat again, see ya soon.
-
Cheers Kid-Ae, that'd be awesome :) I reckon it's a great idea to share stuff like that. Where abouts are you loacted? I'm in Brunswick.

Thanks guys. Yeah I just bought a new dash top/pad and changed it over. There are a few floating around on the forum. ke70-ae71 ones are the same. Just unscrew the old top, there are some bolts at the back that are a bit tricky to get too, just take out some of the heater piping. It's pretty easy, prob a half hourish job. Cheers.

I rang ABS, they want 75bucks for each hose, pretty expensive I reckon. I thought they'd be maybe 40 each or something. I ordered an indicator from 'Mr Car Parts', $25. Haven't picked it up yet so if you've got one sitting around I'll buy it off ya. It'll prob take me awhile to get this stuff done. I've gotta get a new trolley jack n stands. Wish I hadn't of sold my old ones :(

Anyone used the Lovells Superlow springs (Part No. TFL-29SL) in the front of their e7? I used Lovells springs in an old rwd 323 I had and was pretty happy with them. Anyone recommend anywhere in Melb to get new front brake hoses from? I'm gonna wing it n try n change front shocks n brake hoses myself. Never done it before should be interestin and possibly involve a lot of swearing... :) I found some new monroe shocks a friend bought and never used so I'm just going to put them in for now. Can't afford doing the 86, xt130 strut conversion at the mo. Prob look at it down the track. Cheers.

Looking really good Ben! Can't wait to see it in the flesh.

Got it checked out for RWC today. Not too bad. Needs: - New front shocks - New front brake lines - Tyres on front, just gonna get some 2nd hand ones - Front left indicator lens on bumper Anyone out there got any good ones of these items second hand? Was thinking about doing the 86 struts thing rather than spending money on new inserts. Don't know tho, it's just a daily so prob not worth it. We'll see

Does it have to be a road car??.... http://youtu.be/9675TKafw3g I want a 787B, or anything that sounds like one ;)

Lookin great. Love the stance too. Good work

Thanks for the info altezza, I'll give that a shot. Tail lights back in and boot seal on. Painted back quarter of car, next week I've give it a wash n hand polish. Turned out ok. Got some 'autobarn special' door mirrors, look better than the mismatched black plastic ones :) Also got rid of the silver stripe on this side. Prob get a rwc check next week so i can see how much more it needs to get on the road.

Did a little more work on the e7 today. Would of got the back end painted if the rattle can I bought wasn't stuffed. Bloody paint went everywhere. Put in the tacho cluster I got from Pick-a-Part yesterday. Pretty good for 25 bucks. Thanks to Ben-89 for letting me know it was there. Also chucked in an old sports steering wheel I had, love this wheel. Peeled off the silver pin striping on one side, this was so annoying.. but looks better. Gonna keep the red on there. Hopefully the rain will hold off tomorrow and I get some time to give the back a quick paint.
