Picts of old cars and especially corollas on my Grandfathers property, anyone else have old corollas lying around....

your correct. I was told without it on de-excelleration the gear will lock up due to the excessive movement without the clip. Its in and all sorted now. This topic can be closed, thanks all for your help.

Does anyone know if the clip is important??

hey people, i think we can only get to the clip from inside with the mainshaft out, thats how we removed it. Is the clip important? What exactly does it do, can we do without it? Can anyone confirm? Cheers

Hey people, another question. We think we left this clip out when we put the input housing back on however the housing doesnt want to come of, we can spin the housing around a bit and it comes apart from the box about 2 cm however wont come completly off. It came off originally when we took the box apart because all the gears etc were out, but wont now. Whats the trick??

People, I'm reassembling my KE70 5 Speed and I'm at the stage of putting the Reverse and Fifth back in. can someone direct me to detailed diagram on how to do this as the workshop manual sux!

so ure saying that the front half of ke boxes are mostly the same, they just changed the extension housing on the ke70, however if you want a box from a KE55 to fit your KE70, just pull the extension housing from your KE70 box and bolt it up to the KE55 box and it will bolt up like no changeover ever happened??

Guys I have a 5 speed box from a KE55, what do I need to do to the box to make it fit in my KE70? The KE70 box is longer and is only a 4 speed... ive had a look at the Knowledge Base and it mentioned that 4 & 5 speed extension housings arent interchangable to each other. Does it mean though, that I can put the 5 speed KE70 extension housing on the KE55 5 speed box and fit it into my KE70? are the front part of the boxes the same.... thanks

When I was over there in 2001, they were tossing away AE90's and AE92's. They stopped tossing away the KE range half way through the 90's! Unfortunately a car's life span is very rare to exceed 15 years. If you hear stories about them having to replace engines at 40'000 kms or at 3 years old, tell that person to jump. I cruzed around in a 91' 2 door honda with a carby engine and no one looked at me once! Old cars just need inspecting before registration and that costs alot. Some people dump their car, I walked up to a dumped AE92 Corolla with 4A carby engine, the battery was still charged and the key in the ignition, just the plates and other identification gone (didnt try and start it) but the lights and blinkers worked.

I'm glad you have that additude, I envy you owning this and would close my eyes in discust to hear of it being neglected. You basically have the beginning of Corolla's. I would trade you any or all of my cars to own this and store it to keep it in overrated condition. I own a 68 KE 10 however it is beyond repair, I havent seen another in as good of a condition as the one you own. I hope you make a good decision. Keep or sell to someone. I don't think keeping it is a good option for you, as you mention you want something to throw around a bit, selling this to a corolla enthusiast would be an excellent idea. Even selling it on E-bay could be an option, it would attract major attention/interest. Excellent little car.
