  1. I don't think it's called for tbh. This stage is costing a lot more time and money than I planned but sort of needs to happen. Once the floor and tunnel is in we'll be adding onto the cage to make it better for side impact and doing a little more under car for the ass end. Have to stop some where otherwise it'll never hit the track :)
  2. Yeah I know lol I guess all this is to compliment the great wheel base and geometry of a KE70 tbh.
  3. Finally got some time to make progress after ages of part collecting. A mate has fabbed the chassis mods together with some really good simple ideas implemented. The main goal was to bring the chassis and cage together as well as implement the longer upper control arms to match lower arm length for good pinion angle under full tilt which there will be a lot of. All nuts and bolts are roughed in and half of them will be replaced to go with a bit more plating for strength on arm pick up points too. We are aiming for Vic time attack in April to have a red hot go and establish a personal best time for Phillip Island to further improve on over time.
  4. Will you be flowing the heads with an intake manifold attached too?
  5. That's hot. Has this done a number yet?
  6. KE70 are a terrible car for budget drift! NOT Such a cheap car to get handling slideways. Looks like you're gonna have fun with this one :)
  7. Yeah good call and it's on the cards for sure. Looking to tie into the cage where I can too without adding un needed weight
  8. Yeah it's caged too. Not too sure on how good the cage is as it still needs to pass CAMS cert so will find out soon enough I'll defs have a look at how to marry up to the cage base and other strong areas cheers ;)
  9. Great advice! I'll look into riveting more as well as different welding methods. I have a tig and looking to get a mig so just seems easier but could be wrong The previous owner stitch welded the whole car but I'll be looking at making the rear better where there seems to be much less strength in the body there. My main concern is the actual mounts for the suspension arms to body. Can just see something giving there
  10. Finally got some time to get the solid mount suspension on. Worked well considering I've never turned a spanner on a Corolla but bloody great car to work on There's a few areas that strength looks like it could be an issue now that there are no bushes in any of the suspension except sway bar links and will most likely either crack or hopefully not tear sheet metal. Next on the to do list is to get some spare 2mm or 3mm sheet steel and begin looking at what may be weak and benefit from some strengthening welds.
  11. S series is now for sale if anyone is keen. R31 diff in the car now
  12. On a 1.54L engine taking into account a pressure ratio of 3 (around 12-18psi) and max rpm of 8000rpm and most likely less if you run higher boost, a Borg warner S247 would give you great response and potential power of well over 200rwkw http://www.theboostl...ower-S247-.html Just an example of a solution to your hate of lag. These turbos are cheap and have a hungry blade design which grabs heaps of air both well before hard spool and also running whilst only low boost. Cost about $100 to rebuild and have a way bigger journal bearing shaft than a garret so bush doesn't mean spool will be crapola as per many mythical thinkers say ;). There's hope for fast spool yet :)
  13. A well matched turbo set up feels almost as good as a supercharger but not as linear. I know this cos I specialize in supercharged cars and do quite a few turbo conversions on the same base engine. Mad variety and it's all good as long as it's putting down at minimum double (preferably triple) what the stock set up did lol! What is the purpose of your car and forgive my ignorance, what engine capacity and safe rpm where the heads still flow well?
  14. A well matched turbo will make up for slight lag with a good torque curve. Depending on the use of the car a gearing change may be needed to keep the turbo in it's efficiency range and minimise off boost time. Under boost/ spool can still be strong torque and drivability too
  15. I'm with KE70Dave here. Days of turbo lag are pretty much gone. Turbo manufacturing technology has progressed massively and responsive and high flowing wheels are available at affordable prices now. Selecting the right turbo is as simple as going one size too small if anything instead of one size too big if you're unsure. Worst case limit rpm and grab the next gear to get into the meat of the torque asap instead of too large a turbo never quite getting there possibly. Get the boost all in asap and limit rpm and it will be happy days with good engine longevity. The clutched comp wheel idea has merit but just isn't what the freedom of a turbo is about
  16. Final piece of the puzzle has arrived. Shouldn't be bending the tie rods any time soon! Turbo pipes have been dropped off to HPC and still needing to sort something out for engine fitment regarding the oil sump fouling the cross member. Leaning more and more towards doing a tube cross member
  17. The boxes are part of an equal 4 link kit where you cut the floor pan to replace the shorter top link bars. This is to correct pinion angle and aid traction. Big learning curves ahead but the kit is well though out so should go together ok with a bit of planning on my part https://technotoytuning.com/toyota/ae86/equal-length-4-link-kit-ae86 This some one elses set up if that helps
  18. Yeah was surprised how heavy they are........considering it's only 15" diameter too. Just want to get this thing on the road and would rather a new un messed with heavy cheap wheel than something cheap 2nd hand that's been street skidded/ gutter bashed lol Safety first! Will upgrade to a 15 x 9" once the car is together and have done a couple shake down days. Should also have enough cash to resume eating meat n veg again by then instead of 2 minute noodles. Go fast parts cost haha I like Team Dynamics wheels as they're quite affordable and mega light. Will also check out SSrs too
  19. A few good bits turned up. Getting keen to turn the tyres now!
  20. What a great choice of engine for the KE70!
  21. Awesome work. I like your commitment of diving straight in! Not bad for an "apprentice"
  22. You have a cluster? I am jealous as I don't What's the intended purpose of this car? Looks to have some fruit on it by the stance 😌
  23. Yeah hope to sell the whiteline bits off as I've already ordered T3 solid mount everything. I haven't got the diff at mine yet as my mate is bringing it over from Radelaide to Melbs next week, not sure if it's LSD but guessing it's a cig special lol. Looking for a kaaz centre though and different gear ratio as it's currently 4.11:1. not the best for a turbo car of this weight Hell yeah lol. I'll do bearings n full over haul before I track it. Who knows what living hell it's been through in this guys drift car
  24. Yeah it's getting a bit that way. Pretty giddy to hit the track. Living near Calder, Sandown, Winton, PI etc means plenty opportunity to stretch it's legs :) Safety is where it's at for the rest of the build
