  1. Hey all I have a 1980 KE55 5-speed stocker. My speedo is out. When i'm doing 60 it reads 70, when i'm doing 100 it says i'm doing 110. It seems to be perpetually 10kmh over. Why is this? How do i fix this? Will I pass a roadworthy with this?
  2. In 2002 a mate of mine had his mum's maroon AE92 seca 5spd. We took it fanging and we got the tacho to hold on the pin at 8000rpm. Damn it stunk. Then we took it up on two wheels going round a dippy corner. Then after i owned the '55 for a little while, i went to a mates place on a farm and we did big donuts in a paddock. its hard to change direction in 2nd gear in a stock '55 and keep em spinning. But it is possible...
  3. yeah, who would own a pushrod motor hey. Seeing as this site is basically built around the reliability of the 4k PUSHROD motor, it's probably best to respect the old design. They are reliable! Yes, they are low power vs engine size, but they are also low fuel consumption for their size too. I like my 4K cos it's reliable and powerful enough and cheap. If i ever owned a V8 i would want it to be a pushrod. Low tech, big V8 rumble. Just cos its your opinion that pushrod motors are no good doesn't make it so.
  4. cheers nick whitepages tells me carb n ject is at underwood there is a place called carb-tech at kippa ring, perhaps this is the one? also, how hard is it to rebuild a carby on your own? ive never even taken one off let alone rebuilt one
  5. Hey All My girlfriend has a 91 Suzuki Swift sedan. It is carby-fed and has flat spots in the carby. It likes to hesitate on takeoff. I have spoken to a mechanic and he suggests that it needs a carby kit. I have no knowledge or want to rebuild it, and i was wondering if any of you guys had any suggestions on what i should do? Perhaps a place to go who will sort out the carby? On the northside? Obviously price is the bottom line, i'd like to keep it as cheap as possible. Cheers for your help fellas.
  6. man thats rooted i've driven some cut n shut cabs in my time... i was driving one that would squeak and sqwark every time the auto changed gear, and over potholes etc and there was another one that you would have to steer with dear life to the right just to stop it wandering into the gutter. and then i've driven one that was as good as new
  7. Yeah sure No worries at all Just PM me for my address
  8. Hey all, I have a KE55 Sedan. I am selling it sometime between now and July (when i buy an ex-cab). I want your opinion on whether i should sell it as is, or do it up a bit and sell it registered. October 1980 KE55 Sedan 341,200klms Factory 5-speed Reconditioned 4K Very good mechanically: always starts first time. I've done 21,000 in it and it's been a dream run. Interior is good, everything works. Kill switch 4 speaker stereo with commodore head unit and tempramental 6-stack in the boot. Problems: Paintwork is mostly yellow, partly undercoat in repaired areas. Speedo reads 10k over no matter what speed. I'm not expecting much for it, but by the same token i'm not going to give her away. I already have purchased some paint for her and a good mate is a spraypainter/panelbeater and he has offered to spray the car for cheap. Should i get the car sprayed in a hope that it'll pass roadworthy? Everything on the car works fine. No rust, no damage. Do you think i should persue the fix it up and roadworthy it path or should i just flog it off as is?
  9. i like your thinking dan mega speed ke55 sleeper yes please
  10. don't worry i've had people call my ke55 sedan a: corona camry datsun gemini torana cortina escort laser(!) Medicine Man knows the score.
  11. yeah, like a sigma motor lol more oil than petrol
  12. Hey all just a little question does anyone know of any other motors (other than a 4k) that are seemingly indistructible(for a motor)? A 4.0l falcon motor is pretty darn good (block and head is good for 1,150,00klms) The old 202 red and blue motors were pretty good too. they didn't die, they just got very, very tired. doesnt have to be toyota. I can't think of any others, can you?
  13. i hate my good driving behaviour thingie. damn nazis. oh well, only 5 months to go.
  14. oh okay so you didn't need to take the courier's door to pieces to get it right?
  15. okay, cheers sloth snr that sounds promising. does anyone else have any suggestions?
  16. Hey all I have a ke55 sedan. The rear passenger side window has the rubber/felt like little strips missing. The bloody window rattles. I would like to fix this. Someone has told me that they are called 'bailing strips' or something like that. I have also been told that you need to take the door apart to get them in. I don't want to have to do that. I just want to know: 1. What the hell are these things called. 2. Can i get them new, a generic type thing? 3. Are they easy to put in 4. How do you put them in. My gf is not really all that pleased with how upset i get over that incessant rattle i get from the window. IT DRIVES ME f@$kING BONKERS IOOIH(GY(*_Y)*(HU(H(HHOIPOHIPHUI I HATE IT I HATE IT I HATE IT *ahem* So if any of you fine gentlemen have any ideas or solutions, i would love to know. Regards Mr Hardware
  17. i would say each to their own but its been said. I'll say what i think. I don't like it at all.
  18. trendact, you're spot on there.
  19. ha ha love ke70 aye, they are a lovely thing to drive We sell them cos they are 6 years old and on the stroke of midnight from when they turn six we have to pull em off. Mate, i've driven some great and not so great cabs in my time. By 100,000k they stop feeling brand new By 400,000k they stop feeling near new By 800,000k they start feeling shit. We never let our cabs go past 700,000 cos thats when you have troubles. We had one cab come off just recently (december) a dec99 model AU update and it drove like a new car. Never had a major hit and still had PLENTY of billy-o even on the gas. There are ex-cabs and there are ex-cabs. Alot of cabs on the road are 'cabs for life' or 'taxi pack' ones. They come off super tired and shit with close to a million kays. (btw falcon blocks are good for 1,150,000klms) We never touch them. we buy ex-fleeters for $12k at 3yrs 100,000kms old and flog em off at 6yrs 600,000klms for $5k. A good deal really. Especially as we put them on the gas too. Gas is the best. My next car is an ex-cab. Can you tell?
  20. lol my gf calls her 91 swift sedan 'Bella' i don't know why its an auto and its quicker than my well tuned stock 4k-c lol
  21. only get a gasfit if you KNOW that you will have that vehicle for a fair while, not just a couple of years. If you want a vehicle on gas, you can't go past an ex-cab. We sell em for 5 grand. 2000 model AU Falcon ~650,000klms painted back to its original colour more power and economy than a poor 4k-c could ever muster.
  22. trendact knows the score i work in the taxi industry if we didn't run LPG on the cabs, we would be broke. It takes about 65,000 klms to cut even on a $2k gas install. Just remember you will go through spark plug leads about twice as fast on an LPG car. Increase in consumption is about 30%. In city driving, an AU falcon will do about 18L/100klms of LPG its around 14L/100klms of Petrol usually a shift is around 300klms, twice a day. 100klms (18L gas @59.9) = $10.72 (cheaper than my 4kc) 100klms (14L petrol @112.9 = $15.80 (more expensive than my 4kc) We save about $5 a per shift per day. Avg of 12 shifts per week = $60 saving per car per week $60 per car x 16 cars = $960/week saving. one car lasts us 3years. 1 $2k gasfit is payed back in 34 weeks. If we put a car on at christmas, we are paid back by around ekka time. The other 120 weeks the car is on for we are winning. MY TIP: only put 6-cylinders on gas (or maybe a 2.0L+ 4cyl). cos if you are gonna get gas, its so f@$kin cheap you may as well treat yourself with a little power. it takes around 2-3yrs of normal driving to recoup. ONLY HAVE GAS IF YOU ARE A CAREER/FLEET/PROFESSIONAL driver ie limo/taxi/courier etc etc etc.
