  1. I just checked redwarf's page out and he says he's using KE55 rotors. I checked demuire's Rolla out just after my last post and discovered he's using the setup I described, or close to it, but grimwolge mentioned in another post that demuire has spent about $20,000 on his car, so it is slightly (read 'way, way') out of my price range. Of course, most of this is probably on the fully adjustable suspension setup. demuire, if you're reading, can you please expand upon this.
  2. I've just added a new calendar event. Here's the details repeated below. THIS IS GOING TO BE HUGE!!! This will be the 50th Anniversary of the first Rejex Rally. Back in 1955, Darwin discovered that the Redex Rally would not be going visiting the Top End that year, so the Rejex Rally was created. I believe it was only run once or twice, but then in 1995, for the 40th Anniversary, it was started again and has been running ever since. Last year there were approximately 50 competitors in a wide variety of cars including such vehicles as: 1928 Dodge Tourer MGB Old Mini R33 Nissan Skyline GTR HSV Clubsport Ford XR6 Turbo Toyota Starlet Absolutely any vehicles are welcome to enter, as you can probably tell from the list above. I personally have entered the rally 4-times (2005 will be my fifth entry), and I am living proof that anyone has a chance to do well. Here's why: in my first rally, on my P-plates with very little driving experience, I came 4th outright, 3rd in class, and won the encouragement award (which was created for my because I'd done so well but just missed out on Rookie of the Year). This was done in a 1984 Honda Accord, so absolutely ANYONE has a chance. Last year in my girlfriend's completely standard 1998 Toyota Starlet we came second to a VTII HSV Clubsport, beating a R33 Nissan Skyline GTR in the process. Even if you don't live in the NT this is an event worth trecking North for. It would be EXCELLENT to see some RollaClub members competing. It only costs $110 per person to enter (this is what it has been for the last 4 years, it may change, but not much), and out of this you get all meals paid for, and you get a shirt to show off to everyone. The general practice is to have a driver and navigator (minimum). If you have others in the car (excluding children), they must also pay the entry fee. If you can't afford to come on your own, I'd recommend getting a group together and coming as one entry. Email me for details of the route and/or entry forms. [email protected]
  3. Thanks everyone, I appreciate the help with my search for info. Does anyone have any tips on suspension and/or brake upgrades? I've heard someone up here has a setup that involves AE86 front struts, some Peugeot discs (not sure which model), and Land Cruiser 4-pot calipers. I haven't gotten in touch with the guy to find out about it, but I'd be interested in finding out if a). this sounds about right, and b). what others have done when doing up brakes on their Rollas.
  4. FFFFFFARK!!!!! I think I'm in love. Just don't let Lola know.
  5. If anyone lives in the Darwin region, or knows anyone in the region, don't forget that the Hidden Valley Fun Day is on this Sunday 27th March. This will be my first outing in the Corolla, or any RWD car for that matter, so I will probably spin out (multiple times), so it will be too funny to miss. But seriously, it will be a great day, so please head on down, or at least mention it to people in the area. And don't forget that if you do come down, you should find me in the pits and say hello. Mention Rollaclub and I'll give you a ride in (the passenger seat of) the Corolla (JOYGASM!!!).
  6. As many of you probably know, I recently purchased Lola, my KE55 Corolla (4-door sedan). Now I need to learn more about her. Can anyone tell me what the differences are between the KE30 4-door, and the KE55 4-door? I looked on www.drive.com.au to try and find out what the KE55 weighed, and they didn't even have a 4-door listed, however the firewall declares her to be a KE55E model. I know that the KE55 has rectangular headlights whereas the KE30 had round ones, and that they obviously have different grilles, but aside from that I can't spot much else (from the little I have seen of any KE30's). BTW, the engine specs don't really concern me as my engine's definitely not a standard offering (not even close).
  7. I don't mean to make an unnecessary fuss, but I just wanted to point out that I meant 'flywheel kilowatts' not 'front wheel kilowatts' when I used the abbreviation fwkw. I'm not sure if I used the right abbreviation, my mistake. Wasn't one of the main problems with the 'road-going supercar' scare of the 70's that the cars didn't have good enough brakes for the power they were making? Even if it wasn't the reason for the scare, it'd be reason enough for me, just look at the crap brakes on some of the Holdens & Fords of the time and you'll see what I mean. Then again, my lil' Lola has a similar thing going on - big (ish) horsepower with standard KE55 brakes. I can't wait to try slowing down from 140+km/h at the end of Hidden Valley's straight (he says with sarcasm in his voice). What I don't understand is how Holden got away with supposedly cancelling the Torana XU1 V8, but were still able to release the SLR5000 & A9X Toranas. It was basically the same thing (just in a LH/LX body shell instead of a LJ).
  8. Does anyone know where Toyota printed/inscribed the transmission & differential codes on their transmissions & differentials? I've had a (quick) glance under my car to look for them, but due to the level of mud & dirt that has built up there, I'm not sure if I'm looking in the right places. NOTE: This is for a KE55 Corolla. I think it has standard diff (I don't know what code that's meant to be) but I'm not sure what sort of gearbox it has. Any help is appreciated.
  9. Thanks. But wouldn't you agree that there should be a higher power claim now that the power cap has been made redundant? I would have thought that the 4G63 could be making around 250fwkw from the factory (I know it can make far more than that, but the factory won't necessarily want to give it any kind of warranty when there's that much strain on the motor).
  10. The Shigeno 'piece of crap'!?! What's wrong the Shigeno version? It sounds cool, and in GT3 it went like a shower of shit from stock, and even better when you added a turbo. Who else is sick of the number of repeat cars in GT3 and GT4. What I mean is, not the ones repeated between games, but the number of JGTC racing Supra's, Skylines, and NSX's with the same outputs, but different paintwork. The makers of GT4 could have dropped about 20 cars if they got rid of most of these cars (and just left one of each to sample). That way instead of a 600Hp Skyline we could have been driving more old Corollas! Strangely enough this actually does sound appealing, but then, the Skylines do get really boring.
  11. What amazes me about the Evo IX is that it now has MIVEC (finally), but only makes 206kW and 405Nm. The Evo VIII (without MIVEC) made 206kW and 393Nm. I can't remember exactly how MIVEC works (I understand VVT & VTEC, not MIVEC), but the impression I've got is that they should be able to make significantly more power. And don't go on about the Japanese power limit because it no longer exists, so why aren't Mitsubishi following Nissan's lead and making 300+Hp?
  12. I agree. The old Mini should've been included. I was pretty glad they've finally included the 4-cylinder Galant VR4 (not the later V6 versions). As to all of you out there without PS2's, I previously only had a PC and then went and bought a PS2 JUST for the GT games. I have GT1, GT2, GT3, GT Concept, and now GT4. I skipped Prologue because I didn't really see the point, and a mate loaned it to me anyway, so I've been able to skip the first two licence tests. I haven't taken advantage of the bonus 100,000 credits from GT3 though, as it would seem a bit like cheating. Another (small) problem I have with the game is that you can't use supercharging with NA tuning or turbos. It'd be pretty cool if you could. And some Corolla's (aside from the WRC version) should be included. And hopefully one day they'll include engine swaps (in my dreams)!
  13. All that Toyota Australia have done to bring out a supercharged Camry is use the TRD kit that has been available in the US for ages. The supercharger is attached to the 1MZ-FE 3.0L V6, not the 2AZ-FE 2.4L inline-4. There are also supercharger kits available for the 1ZZ-FE (Corolla) 1.8L inline-4, 5VZ-FE (Prado/Hilux) 3.4L V6, and 1FZ-FE (Land Cruiser) 4.5L inline-6. None of these kits produce ridiculously large power hikes, so that none of them void Toyota warranties in the US. In the latest issue of Motor (which I received just today), there is talk of a performance division for Toyota Australia being formed, referred to as Toyota+. If such a division is formed, then I wouldn't be at all surprised if they were to start selling these TRD kits. They probably wouldn't sell the 5VZ-FE kit, as the Prado no longer uses it, and the new Hilux (which dealers are just starting to receive) uses the same engines as the Prado, including the 1GR-FE 4.0L VVT-i V6 (with 6-speed manual!). What Toyota Australia should really do, is to base the next Avalon on the Prado running gear. This would mean they could use the 4.0L V6 with 6-speed manual and/or 5-speed auto and it could be rear-wheel drive and/or all-wheel drive. It would also be strongly differentiated from the Camry, as it would have a significantly larger engine (4.0L vs. 3.0L) and significantly more power (179kW vs. 145kW). Plus, by being RWD with the option of AWD, it actually has a chance against Falcons & Commodores. Yet another benefit is that the 2UZ-FE 4.7L V8 from the Land Cruiser could also be used, as the US-market Tundra uses both the 4.0L V6 and the 4.7L V8 with the same transmissions as the Prado. A 282Hp RWD Toyota sedan. Can anyone else hear the sound of Ford & Holden's sales being flushed down the toilet?
  14. Firstly, this Sprinter's 4AGZE was definitely not stock (obviously as it is rare for cars with un-tuned motors to make it to the cover of such magazines as Zoom). Secondly, I do realise that dyno figures can vary quite significantly from dyno to dyno, but any figures would be of interest. By the way, for those interested, the 4AGZE Sprinter on the cover of Zoom was running the standard SC12 supercharger, with a smaller pulley (not sure which brand) making it put out 0.89 bar of boost. It has an AVO front-mount intercooler, a weird dual throttle body setup to break up the intercooler piping, 365cc injectors, 7MGTE fuel pump, Haltech E6K, and 2.5 inch exhaust.
  15. Does anyone have any dyno-proven power figures for any of their 4AGZE-powered cars? It's just that I've bought myself Lola, a KE55 with a 4AGZE, and I'm wondering about her potential. In the issue 81 of Zoom magazine there is an orange 4AGZE-powered AE86 with 137kW at the rear wheels, which should be equal to about 240-250hp at the flywheel (at a rough guess). Can anyone better this figure?
  16. Hi Everyone, Just a quick post to let you know that there is now a moderator for the Darwin/NT forums, so there are now actually some messages posted. If you are from the NT, or know of anyone who lives in the NT who might be interested, then please post a message on the board so we can get a local chapter of rollaclub going. ancullen
  17. Forgot to mention it in my previous post, but there will be a fun day at Hidden Valley on Sunday 27th March. This will include a barbeque, as well as 3x 30-minute drift sessions and 3x 30-minute lap-sprint sessions. I will be there, as will Lola, so please head on down and come and say hello. I would also strongly recommend you enter either the drifting or the lap-sprinting, as currently there are not many drifters entering (about 10 maximum), so you get plenty of go's at it. The lap-sprinting is also an excellent event to compete in as it is a great way to hone your skills. I can't recall the costs off the top of my head, but for under $100 you will get into both the drifting AND the lap-sprinting. I think it was something like $60 for insurance, and $15-20 for drifting or lap-sprinting. So that's a pretty good deal. Email me if you have any questions.
  18. If anyone out there is living in the NT, please add a reply to this post so we can get an idea of who's out there. Also, please feel free to email me to notify me of your existence. The plan is to try and actually get some sort of events going up here (eg. cruises, drift days, etc). But first we actually need to find more than one NT resident (me).
