  1. ROFL - good advice Stephen. Whichever turbo I get, I DEFINITELY won't be running higher than stock boost. Turbosmart boost controller will be removed so the standard thingy can do its job again, giving 9psi in 1st & 2nd, and 13psi in the top three gears. Have to look at an aftermarket ECU, and possibly bigger injectors before upping the boost again.
  2. To add to my woes, ST205's don't have a ceramic coat on their valves (not that I thought it was likely). So the engine has been running lean. FARK!!!!
  3. I'm thinking I could get the GT3071 and have that power potential for later on when I've got the money to upgrade ECU, cams, stroker, etc. The CT20b is appealling in that I know without any doubt that it bolts straight on. However, I'd also need a new downpipe anyway, so I'm looking at around $2,300 with postage for the CT20b & downpipe, versus $3,000 with postage for the GT3071. Then again, the GT3082 is only $50 more again, and it would DEFINITELY cater to more power further down the line, but I reallly don't want lag. I do want enough grunt to beat Anthony's S2000 with a clear margin, and the GT3071 will do that, however, Anthony's now looked into some performance upgrades that may negate my improvements. Bloody hell this is a difficult decision!
  4. I'm a friggin' idiot. I completely forgot about Fensport. They do rebuilt CT20b's! Available in three specs, two of which have upgraded shafts to avoid me having the same issue again. Fensport ST205 Parts The Stage 2 item is looking good, as it's got the upgraded shaft, 360-degree thrust, and can run up to 1.5bar of boost, giving up to 360hp power potential (with other mods). It would cost about AUS$1,600, plus postage, plus I'd need a new downpipe, which would be another $500. So that's roughly $2,300, versus $3,000 for the full GT3071 kit. Hmm, can't make up my mind.
  5. Bugger. Thanks for the link Andrew, but it looks like I'll be getting the GT3071 if the GT28RS is unavailable. I can buy GT28RS kits from a couple of companies, but it has been suggested that it will only make a very minimal difference to the CT20b, and I figure if I'm going to spend the money, I may as well spend a couple of hundred extra and have a turbo with more potential. Could go the GT3082, but I don't need that much power. The GT3071 should keep decent spooling speed. Plus if it can make 500whp on an MR2, that's HEAPS in my book. 560whp is just ridiculous. :) Got a few more concerns having looked down the ports of the engine, as we can see that the valves are white. Not sure if this is a ceramic coating, or if they've been burnt. I'll be taking photos into Dave at Hi Tech to seek his opinion. I'll get some photos of the turbo at the same time and post them all up on here. Here's some links to the kits I've been looking at. KO Racing seem fairly expensive to get a kit that matches the ATS kits. Plus ATS were EXTREMELY helpful and quick to respond, whereas I've only got a response from KO Racing this morning. KO Racing kits ATS Racing Garrett GT turbo kits Speed Source GT28RS kit (no reply from these guys)
  6. Just had a thought: Andrew, do you still have the GT28RS you bought off Stephen? If you do, would you consider selling it? If you don't, who did you sell it to?
  7. My turbo is definitely f@$ked. Heaps of play in both turbines, and the shaft on the inlet side was able to be pulled out as it had broken inside the turbo. :y: Pissed at the timing, as my financial situation was just starting to look not so bad, and now I've got to spend money on something I don't really want to. At least I've got the money there to do it with for once.
  8. LOL - what a waste. Didn't you have pretty much all that stuff for the last AE71, sell it, and now you've bought it all again?
  9. I never impulse buy. Except for the GT-Four - that was kind of an impulse. Definitely can't afford to impulse buy any more though.
  10. Got word back from ATS. The guy I'm chatting with has said that the GT28RS will only make marginally more power than the CT20b, and will spool slightly faster. I actually still find that tempting. However... Their GT28RS kit is $1,850. Their GT3071 kit is $2,350. Why would I consider a GT30? Well, ATS have just finished an ST185, with their GT3071 kit, cams, and Power FC. They made 340hp on 17psi. At the wheels. At ALL FOUR WHEELS! The guy suggests that with the GT3071 kit, I'd only need to upgrade my exhaust to 3", but with the fuel pressure regulator I've already got and the ST205 water-to-air intercooler I'll be fine for that power level. I'd neglected to mention it already had the bigger exhaust, so I'm set. :bash: I wouldn't expect to make the same horsepower as the ST185, as I won't have different cams or the programmable ECU, but I wouldn't expect to be a long way off. Hell, 300hp (225kW) at all four wheels is MORE than enough in my book. Assuming a 35% drivetrain loss, that's 460hp at the engine for about $5,000. :D :) :P
  11. SpeedSource suck. They STILL haven't replied to my email. Plus Tim put me on to ATS who sell a GT28RS kit cheaper. Plus they're happy to talk about horsepower figures: TD06 20G @ 17psi Please note this is for an MR2, so they've installed 550cc injectors (off an ST205), retuned the ECU and installed a modified fuel rail to handle those injectors, upgraded the fuel pump (mine's already upgraded), and put in a different thermostat (not sure it's necessary on mine). They're saying they've had up to about 380hp at the flywheel with this setup on 17psi. My stock ECU can handle 17psi, so this seems a good way to go, but I'm concerned the TD06 20G would be too laggy on my car, as it's the turbo originally used on the 4G63, but they went down to the 16G because of the lag it had. Anyway, I've emailed ATS to find out what they suggest, as I don't want lag, and I'm only aiming for around 400hp at the flywheel with a different turbo. Don't want to munch clutches, gearboxes, diff's or CV's - just need to be able to get up and boogie off the line quickly. Low to mid 13's would be nice too - just not sure how feasible it is. BTW - just been looking up info on the TD06. On an MR2 page they've got some dyno results with TD06's on around 17psi (I don't want to change ECU's). As you can see there are three examples running around 17psi on a 3S-GTE with TD06, and ALL are making over 300hp AT THE WHEELS - MR2 Dyno Page. One has 341rwhp (17psi), 321hp (15.5psi), 315hp (17.5psi). Assuming a conservative 15% drivetrain loss on a mid-engined setup, that's an average from the three cars of around 407hp at the engine. Assuming a pessimistic 35% drivetrain loss on the GT-Four, that's 264hp at the wheels, or 197kW. I'd be happy with that. :bash:
  12. Yeah - divorce settlement sucks, but it's worth it. :y: Got to check out the turbo on the GT-Four in case it's Mcf@$ked. If it is, a CT20b will NOT be getting put back on the car.
  13. I had two TA22's once. :y: Now I've got $4,500 instead. Got approved for my $40k loan today. Shocked the hell out of me. Shocked me even more when the bank said I was eligible for up to the full $50k personal loan. Dreams of SpeedSource turbo kits and brand new Triumphs started going through my head. But I'm resisting temptation (as usual) and just going the minimum so I can pay it off ASAP. Got a cracked down pipe on the GT-Four, and I'm hoping it and the failed exhaust gasket are the cause of my lack of boost. $495 plus postage for a replacement from Aussie, and I've already got exhaust gasket material sitting in my house (thanks Luke!).
  14. Yeah - I used to like the Bonneville, but switched to the Thruxton. But the more I look at the Bonneville SE with the blue and white paint, the more I like it. It's like the BJ8 Austin Healey 3000 I like, but in a bike. 8/
  15. LOL - I've now known the last four owners of that AE71 and lined up two of the last three sales. I put Gregor in touch with the guy that sold it to him, and put that guy in touch with the previous owner. And Andrew, I have ZERO interest in a GSXR (aside from an open wheeler with a GSXR engine). If all goes to plan, the next bike will be a Triumph Thruxton or Bonneville and will be within twelve months with any luck. Next on the agenda will be to bring my inherited motorbike up from Tassie, but I'll need to create an area to store it safely - it is 85 years old afterall. Mmm, classic British coolness. BTW, not this weekend with the V8's on, but how about we all meet up at Mindil Beach markets next Sunday or something? I know the couple that run the waffle & chiros stand, and am keen to go get some fresh waffles. Anyone up for a meet up and maybe a bit of a drive? Doesn't matter what car you bring, or even if you don't bring one - I've got three spare seats if anyone wants a lift (unless my bike parts turn up in time, in which case I'm riding the bike so I can enjoy the beautiful dry season weather).
  16. Thanks for the valid input Andrew - it's typical of your posts to RollaClub. 8/
  17. Well guys, I freakin' LOVE motorbikes. Been having some issues with Jenny the GPZ250 and she'll start stalling under certain conditions. Happened this morning just as I was about to leave Palmerston, and this time she wouldn't restart. So I left her at Repco in Yarrawonga, organised a lift home, and drove the GT-Four to work. Went to check on the bike in the afternoon and she started straight away, but then had the same issues on the way home - managed to keep her running though. Anthony was around, so we started to investigate what the problem might be, checking the main things like fuelling and electricals. We started to pull parts off to access other parts, and very quickly decided the fuel tank needed to be removed for improved access. Was this complex? No. How many bolts hold the fuel tank in place? Zero. It simply slides on to two metal brackets! It's both kinda scary (as in, it would come off fairly easily in an accident) and cool (as in it's ridiculously easy to work on as a result). She's still in pieces, as I'm going to purchase new plugs and leads, and I'm going to ditch the airbox (which was the only painful thing to remove) and make an individual filter bracket thing. It'll make the bike louder with cool induction noise. I'm also going to obtain a new slip-on muffler, as the current one won't muffle any noises as it's rusted through all around where it connects to the exhuast pipe. If I'm lucky I'll be able to find a full exhaust system cheap, and revert back to the original twin pipe setup instead of the single it's currently got. Still want cars, but having a lot of fun on (and off) two wheels at the moment.
  18. :bash: TA22's and 4A-GZE and the rest of the gear departed from my place less than five minutes ago. Got $4,500 in my pocket and I'm feeling pretty good. The guy that bought everything lives in Katherine, and already has two TA22's, so now he's got four. He'll probably fix Tamika (the white one) up and sell her to cover costs. He raced the red one he's already got at the last track day, but it's only got a 2T. The other one he's got has an 18R-G. He's stoked to be getting the 4A-GZE, and I think he's considering building the yellow car into an over-2L IP car, which would be cool. I would have thought I'd be a bit sadder to see everything go, but I'm not. I need the money, and although it would have been great to have had the 4A-GZE in something again (eg. a Clubman), I'd never get around to actually doing it. Hoping to get another toy to play with once I clear some debts, but for now I'll just enjoy the two I've got (Sally & Jenny).
  19. Freakin' awesome. Heaps of respect your way for actually attempting the 3S-GTE RWD setup, and even more for using an ST205 motor. I like!
  20. TA22's are as good as sold - dude is coming to collect them Saturday the 6th. To celebrate, I've put in an order for an 11,000rpm motor. :rolla: Watch this space.
  21. :) Yeah... Not to worry, I'm sure the social moderators will take care of it.
  22. I can hook you up with 14's if you want - not a problem. Dude didn't come and grab 15's today, he's meant to be coming through the week instead. If I haven't heard from him by Tuesday, you can buy them if you want instead.
  23. I just got rid of some 195/60 R15's, but still have six 195/50 R15's, four REALLY good ones (hardly worn) and two with heaps of tread left, but more noticably worn. Probably selling them today. If the guy doesn't come around, I'll let you know.
  24. Problem solved. Turns out the line from the cam cover to the pressure sensor had blown off. All fixed and idling like a dream at 900rpm again.
  25. Shit. Car problems are the last thing I need at the moment. If you give me the money, I can use PayPal or my credit card to pay for it, yeah.
