  1. Thanks for the info on the oil leak guys, how do i contact toyota? just get in touch with a dealer or something? pardon my ignorance!! oh and i picked this up today from rick at toyoland for 275 bucks!!
  2. OK so i washed my engine the other day to try and track down my oil leaks and this is what i found a few days later... how do i fix this? also my fuel gauge has given up on life and i need to sort that out to. i did post that in the mechanical help section or something but no help yet so i thought id put it here so more people will see and possibly give me some advice! thanks charl

sorry to bursst your bubble but there are no good 5ks at lonsdale. the one in the brown 70 wags is gone and the other one has a huge hole in the block where a conrod decided to leave it all behind.
  6. Hi everyone, i tried searching but came up with nothing relevant to my car. My fuel gauge has been working fine till a couple days ago when it started to work intermittently. then 2 days ago it just decided to stop working all together. i have tried earthing the wire that goes into the top of my fuel tank as i was told the gauge would read full if it was not the gauge or wiring at fault. but there was no response from the gauge so i would like to know what else i can check to find the problem as the gregorys manual i have doesnt cover this. thanks Charl
  7. ive got the manual already, I'm just trying to gather the information together first!

yeah i know!! its in the works. but i need to cut and weld all the rust before i repaint!
  9. Well i am thinking ill send everything away to get done bit by bit as the money comes in but i would like to put the thing together myself when ive got all the parts back. Or maybe itll just be easier to get someone else to do everything? As far as the gearbox is concerned, i don't mind making the room for the ke70 k50 to fit as i have a ke55 auto centre console thing and this will look stock in cabin but accomodate for the shifter being further back!
  10. So i guess the lumpy idle is the domain of race and rally cars!! so if i don't need to replace my pistons i can just get the block honed? and if i get a cam would i need to tell the place i take my head to what cam i will be running? also, what 5spd gearboxes fit easilly? i want a ke70 5spd, i think theyre called a t50.
  11. OK, so ive been reading posts about doing up a 5k engine for the last 4 hours and i still havent got much of an idea on what to do to get what i want! Ill start by saying that i have never built an engine and don't know all the lingo but i am going to use what ive searched and read to ask if i am on the right track with the ideas! so my aim is to have my 5k tuned as a mild street engine, reasonably easy to drive, lots of torque and quick, not necessarily fast! i want it quick off the line but if it doesnt do more than 120kmh i don't really mind! so far i think ive gathered that i need to do the following: Block: Change welsch plugs Replace studs in timing cover with bolts Replace crank bearings and seals get crank, conrods, pistons, pulleys and flywheel balanced possibly bore the block and get better pistons (what is honing?) possibly get the flywheel lightened Cam: 20 - 60? I have no clue about cams, i just want it to have a nice lumpy idle!.... Other: replace timing gears and chain with double row ones. Head: port and polish, read somewhere you can do this yourself? what else is a good idea? i would like to run twin carbies and keep it NA so any more help is appreciated, the other thing that would be appreciated are places in adelaide that can do the work for a good price? as i said at the beginning, i have read loads of posts about this as well as superjamies wiki, and while i don't doubt the information is a gold mine, for a layman like me alot of it seems like its written in another language! but i am keen to learn as i would like to be able to maintain my engine myself instead of having to go to a mechanic everytime i have a problem. so please don't flame me for asking these questions and don't tell me to use the search function as that is what ove been doing for the last 2 days!!
  12. that engine in the vid is PORN!! i think ill just concentrate on building the motor for now and put the gilmer drive on my christmas list for next year!
  13. i read the whole thread about the gilmer bulk buy that happened last year. i am spewing i wasnt around at the time! i just got an email back from http://www.californiaspeedsupplies.com.au/ saying they don't have one specific for the 5k but the guy said this: "Charl, Unfortunately we don't do a Gilmer Drive kit to meet your needs.. If you are determined to put one on, the best solution would be to purchase the Holden V8 kit for $245 and either re-drill or adapt the crank and water pump pulleys to suit your application. Craig California Speed Supplies" is this a good idea? price seems alright. :y: I really want that sound for my 5k!
  14. man, i have to remember all this for when i get to take mine off the road!!
  15. anyone know anything about gilmer drive sets for 5k engines? apparently a place in NZ called endeavour engineering can do them but i don't want to pay 650 bucks for it!!
  16. just got lucky today i think. i don't know if its actually "open" but if you ring them you might get lucky.....
  17. The guy there is called Rick, he is closing but has a bunch of stuff there that he needs to get rid of. might be worth the drive if you need something?
  18. well the plan is a complete rebuild, cam, bore it out, get the head done etc all the stuff people usually do as well as running twin carbies. but I'm still in the research stages as i don't have alot of experience modding these engines. but the aim is a tough little mild street tuned engine with lumpy cam. i will definitely be asking ALOT of questions before i start sending things off to get work done. ive read tha "building a tough k engine" wiki but i still am very unclear on alot of things.
  19. Nope, it was byo tyre!!
  20. scored this today for 250 bucks from toyoland!! 5k Goodness!!
  21. you sure know your corollas Ryan!!
  22. this is the car that lip came off of.
  23. no worries mate! as i said i wasn't having a dig at you, just a general statement. And just as a heads up, I'm not that old. I'm just 26!!
  24. I wasnt trying to bash drifters, i like it myself, what i was trying to get at is every ke70 owner lately is turning their car into a "drift slut" and i think that is all well and good but do you go and drift on a track somewhere as a legitimate sport or are you going all over the road in residential areas and the like endangering the lives of everyday people who don't appreciate that kind of behaviour? if this is being built for the track, i'm all for it! i don't see the need for a daily driver to be a "fully sick drifter" and then end up destroying private property and/or hurting the drivers who think because they have an awesome drift car they can drive like Keiichi Tsuchiya. this is what is ruining any kind of opportunities for the rest of us car enthusiasts to be able to get together and share our passions in public. so as i said, it was not my intention to target Niiko101 directly, and I'm sorry if it came across like that. as for you "youngins" who think the olds don't get it. drifting has been around for alot longer than you think. Since before you were even a twinkle in your daddy's eye. we know what its all about, but we also have the common sense to know that such endeavours have a place where they belong, and that my friends is on the track. ok, rant over. i don't want this to take away from this build thread as i know it can be frustrating for the owner of the thread as well as the mods so lets just leave it at that.
  25. aaaaaahhhahahahahaha!!!! Now it all makes sense!
