  1. So, when's the official date/time???
  2. Chris and Liz are an inspiration to all who take the time to see how inspired they are.
  3. Hear hear... If the concept was effective and worth doing, i'm sure it'd be done more often. Fact of the matter remains, if you want to push more air into your engine, a bottle of compressed air really isn't the way to go... Though, i'd love to know the price on a regulator that can flow 100CFM at 7PSI...
  4. Technically, is it worth it? Say you've got a decent sized compressor... a 2hp jobbie with a 21L tank... pretty standard sorta setup right? You've got that pumped full of your 140 odd psi... making that a sum total of about 195 litres of air jammed into your tank. At full noise, how quickly do you think you'll go through that amount of air? with each cylinder using 0.35 litres per revolution, at 6500rpm, you're going through 2275 litres of air... So, putting standard atmospheric pressure into the engine, you'd have about 5 seconds worth of air. With a bit of boost pressure, say 7psi? You'd have about 3.6 seconds on the bottle before running out of puff. Keep in mind, you'd need to have fittings big enough to flow 80 odd CFM, as well as some sort of setup that can switch from fully enclosed, to open to atmosphere, otherwise you'd need to run on the bottle the whole time, and really, your compressor won't keep up with that. You could also hit some minor problems with fueling, unless you feel like putting a solanoid controlled fuel line into your carb throat and regulating it for the extra air. (similar to the wet nos shot anyways...) What i'd do if it was me... have a switch that activates three solanoids... One, the air valve. - Lets the bottle flow through the pressure regulator into the carb enclosure. Two, the intake enclosure system. - Closes a pipe in the inlet that would normally be open for N/A driving (could be throttle body style?) to seal the inlet for boost. Three, the on-boost fuel solanoid. - Turns on a boost regulated fuel line tapped into the throttle body that's set for just the right amount of additional fuel. (So you don't need to dick around re-setting the jets and stuff.) But, after all that, with a few seconds of boost, it's not really worth it... I'd be looking at a diving tank, 18L, but holding about 4000psi (take into account, that's big for a dive tank...) That'll give you about 1 minute 45 at atmospheric pressure, and about 1 minute 10 seconds on 5-7 psi... But again, how much can that bottle flow per minute??? 80-90 CFM minimum is what you'd need.
  5. This is what i wanna do to my toyota powered Gemini!!! Except styled after Eleanor from the original "Gone in 60 Seconds"...
  6. I'll be there... just not sure which car i'll be driving... haha
  7. I agree... corollas aren't immediately shopping trolleys... I agree that commodores are more of a shopping trolley than corollas... Shopping trolleys are slow cumbersome things that are painful to drive... like any commodore without power steering. Corollas are quick, nimble cars, and are particularly light on the steering, even without power assist. However... Any substantial addition to the size of the rolling diameter and sprung weight will go a long way to drastically affecting that superb handling a set of stiff, lowered springs will bring. It will have a huge effect on your ability to accelerate and pull up. Give it a try if you like... slap a set of chrome 17's on in place of your stock rims, and feel it for yourself. Sure, you can do things to work around that, extractors, port and polish, side draught webers, heck, even a nice turbo setup... but why? you'd be so much quicker, turn sweeter, go faster and stop harder with your 13's and decent rubber, or a set of 14's or 15's without chrome, and those mods would put you ahead of the rest, instead of just bringing you back up to par...
  8. Oh, what's up with the attitude here??? My opinion is, Old School stylin is maximum 15", deep dish if you like it, and either slap some fat rubber on, or stretch something thin over something dished. You can of course go with the 18-19-20" brigade, but you really run the risk of ending up looking like someone who knows little about performance and style in relation to automobiles... Funny to note also... the advocates of this type of automotive desacration also seem to share the same sort of attitude, you know the one... the "I'm a hard core mo fo with a big bank account, but for some reason, i drive a middle age corolla (not even one of the cool old school rear-wheel drive ones) because my claimed C4 corvette/H3 Hummer/VE HSV 'uses too much fuel' and I have to resort to insults because, quite clearly, my intelligence levels preclude me from a productive discussion on any matter" The reason i am an active member of this forum, with it's conservative attitude, is that conservative attitude promotes friendly discussion, a sense of community, and definately a sense of class and style in a rediculously 'pimped' out world. I work in an industry where i am up close and personal with many of the more stylish personalities in my city. We see a huge variety of cars pass through our ranks. The ones that get the nod of approval are the top end sports cars and luxury sedans, but also, the series I and II RX-7's, RX-3 and 4's the Datsun 1600's, 1200's and 1000 coupes, and corolla KE20's 30's 55's, TE72's and AE86's that have been done tastefully, with nice paintjobs, sensible, dished or race style rims, maybe a lip spoiler or subtle side skirt... The AE82,92,101 Lancers, Hondas, Excels etc with bodykits, big rims, neons and sound systems are scorned, and justly so. Not scorned for their validity as a style, but scorned because that style brings an inherent attitude that isn't welcome outside it's own community.
  9. Considering the engine i want thrown is still in the car and running... using mechanical assistance (ie. driving it off something) i think we could get it quite a long way. (Fetchin cressida. last time i buy a sensible car... ) Ummm... It'd be great to know what the weather is planning, but my preference is for a nice early meetup in the hills, coffee and donuts for breakfast then an early morning run down mundairing weir road (every time i have been on that road, i've got stuck behind a WRX that insists on doing 10 k's under the speed limit... I thought WRX's were supposed to go fast???) Then cruise through the city, and on to either City Beach, or Scarborough? But that's just me...
  10. Team event... 7M tossing!!! mwahahaha. We haven't had much more chatter about this aye... ummm... i don't know about you guys, but a good run through mundairing would just make my day. Maybe a start in the hills, run to the ocean???
  11. AAAARRRRGGGH!!! I've been called in for a double shift... I now have to be in subiaco by 5:30... just got my Allie back yesterday too... darn.
  12. When i saw your thread I was like "OH NO!!! He's pranged his car just before the photoshoot!!!" thank goodness you made it through unscathed. It's always good when cops surprise us by being decent human beings too. Even the safest of drivers sometimes have a lapse in concentration, so don't beat yourself up too much... Just keep it in mind for next time. :jamie:
  13. YAY!!! Ok, I'll see everyone there. will probably be in uniform still. haha
  14. I finish work at 6, so is it ok if i come late??? means i can actually come...
  15. I believe those "someone"s have done all they can to remove this inappropriate material produced by Bill Hensen from the public domain. And my congratulations go to them... However I share in their bitterness at their loss. You see, unfortuantely, those "someones" have been yet again thwarted by the "nobodys", who insist that "it's not that bad" and "well, it could be worse" and "oh, but everyone else is doing much worse" and my favourite, "Oh, but it's ART... so we must be allowed to push boundaries... in the name of ART..." I'm under the impression there are a few nobodys in this forum, that feel some duty to proclaim that Bill Hensen's art "Is not that bad", while I will continue to remain a "someone" who will take any opportunity to remind the "nobodys" what isn't appropriate, and having taken that charge on, I'll not wait until that dam of filth is burst before speaking up about it. Two people have had more atrocities committed in their name than any other... God and Art...
  16. May i suggest it to be a little naive to assume that 'someone' would interviene? That responsibility must be taken on by every individual... I was fortunate enough to be in a position where I was able to foil a criminal attempt about a week ago. The call i made to police was what got two thieves arrested. There was only one other person other than myself, out of the hundred or so who were witness to the braisen act committed by these two men, who also called the police. If i'd decided that 'someone' would interviene, these two men would have made off with over $120,000. but I chose to be that 'someone'. So 2% of the world must be 'someones' while the rest go about being 'nobodys'???
  17. The question I would pose is this... If you're against instilling a sexual awareness from a young age from pop culture, what's the difference with instilling a sexual awareness through more contempory art forms? And if you're really up in arms against influencing kids in such a way, then damn well get up in arms about it... For me, Childhood is a sacred thing, and anyone who perverts that in any way, be it mini skirts for 10 year olds, or posing nude for an old man with a camera, should be hung from the nearest oak tree... As far as the comments on art needing to push boundaries to make a statement, then I suggest they are pretty poor artists indeed. I recently heard about a performance art piece that took my interest. Two men (one of which is a professor at the university that my wife studies at) secured a government grant to perform on stage for a small audience. In the performance, both men stood naked, while one man drew blood from the other with a syringe, used the blood to cook with, then consumed the food, and offered it to members of the audience. This took my interest for a number of reasons. 1. What possible 'statement' were they trying to make? 2. Why would a government body pay to subject people to such things? 3. What self respecting human being would subject themselves to such things in the name of art? 4. What sort of influence would a man, who performs such acts, have on the next generation through his attitudes in teaching? Art used to be a source of outcry, criticism and rebellion against injustices, a representation of the social and economic climate of the era the artist was immersed in, as well as an outpouring of emotion to the beauty, depth and even ugliness of the world. I'm not sure how taking photographs of naked children can appropriately claim to be a symbol of vulnerability and innocence in such a messed up world, when it does little but perpetuate the loss of innocence of children everywhere. As far as I, and many wise men who came before, are considered, Just because popular culture is encouraging it, doesn't mean it's right... In fact, quite the opposite. And i'd be hugely disappointed to see free thinking artists stooping to the same level as the pop culture industry, and using the "well they are doing it, so why can't we?" excuse is actually quite disturbing to me. The question you asked... "how would it hurt the child?" is a good question... and I'm going to try and answer it... Sure, it might not hurt that child... so you take a couple of pictures, no big deal, right? So some dirty old man jerks off over them, and he's considered a sicko, but it's not so bad, because it's not porn, merely art, so it's actually ok for him to display them in his home, or even workplace. Then say he as some friends, one of which has a hankering as an artist. And he sees the pics hanging in his friends home, and likes them. He can appreciate their artisic value, but, considering that his 10 year old daughter is now wearing pushup bra and a miniskirt to school, he decides his friends piece of art isn't quite up with the times. So he decides to takle the same subject, but, as an artist, he realises he has to push the boundaries to make a statement. So he gives those boundaries a big old shove, and takes a pic of a bunch of girls with a little frontal nudity, and the community has a bit of a cry about it, but it ends up ok, because he's an artist, so that's what he's supposed to do, and any good artist worth their salt has to upset a few people. A little media attention, his photos reach a nice big audience, which is great for his career, and he becomes famous. And say he becomes so famous that he starts getting requests for pieces. Maybe someone out there wants something a little more gritty, and that's fine. It's making a statement after all. It's not hurting anyone really is it? Then this 10 year old girl, the same age as his daughter, poses for a shoot, and someone suggests they try something a bit grittier . Let's introduce an antagonist to the works. Let's put a naked man into the background of the pic. What a great idea! someone to simbolise the evil and nastiness the innocence of the girl has to face. Great! And they do a show of their new works, and there is the usual media outcry, but it's ok, he's making a statement. He's doing what any good artist does... pushes boundaries... But someone at the show likes the style, he likes the approach the artist has used, but still... he thinks it could be a bit grittier. It could show more accurately how close the evil of the world really is to the innocent young girl, because it's not standing in the background... it's right on top of her... Hey! what a great idea! Let's push that boundary...
  18. WOW!!! overrated red AE71, with a sexy little wing and what looked like BBS rims in Warwick shopping centre car park...
  19. I'M WORKING THEN!!! |blink| :( :o any volunteers to take my car along for the shoot???
  20. Ummm... Why??? I guess if you've got it laying around you could destroy a perfectly good KE20. 7MGE would be a much better powerplant if you're looking at a healthy straight 6, or if you're intent on breaking away from the toyota heritage, a RB30DE... I remember reading in street machine about these guys who'd poured about 15 grand into an old 202 and actually produced 300 bhp naturally aspirated... but why??? the 7MGE puts down 200 from the factory, and i'm sure the nissan engines do something similar. Compared to the 100-110 ? (It's been a while since i had my overrated condition HQ) that the 202 makes... seems like an exercise in futility.
  21. The quote i got from the smash repair is $1000, but they'll do it for $500 if i can find a door... she's not going to like that... I should really do up a rides and projects page for this... lol. Back to photoshoot stuff! Have we set an official time and locale?
  22. It sucks majorly, and i'm more pissed than I show... All good though, as her insurance is paying for it!!! That'll teach her for saying "It's so old, it doesn't really matter". the ignorance of some... Either way, i still got one awesome side...
  23. That's mine!!! I work at hillarys...
  24. Count in a shiny overrated T18... I'll be there with bells on... Horrible thing is, someone backed into the drivers door. Thankfully not much damage, so still good for a really nice pic.
  25. I'll bring along the new T18... she's well worth a pic or two. Hope the time and date work out... Hillarys marina at night make for quite a nice setting... we had some guy with a hotted up civic taking pics there this week.
