  1. G`day mate, I agree with Taz_rx in that you should check for spark leakage between leads, coil, dizzy. Wait until it is dark (really dark) lift the bonnet and start it up. You may have to look hard but it sure sounds like spark leakage to me. I also notice that plug leads 1 and 2 are touching. Try separating them with one of the plastic tube holders from your polution pipes. It might just work. While you`re in there, check that all of the polution pipes are connected properly. Only takes 5 minutes and that will eliminate another possibillity. Also check that the air gap between the rotor button and the dizzy cap is not too big. When the metal bits inside the cap get worn the gap increases and can cause missing like that. Good luck.
  2. G`day mate, as far as I know its all interchangeable. The only thing that you might watch out for is the length of the waterpump shaft but you can swap them anyway. Stock dizzy same same. Good luck with the build. Shame that you are not local, I`d give you a stripped 4k for free.
  3. G`day mate, I just finished my 4k and have done mild head work, extractors and exhaust, modded carb so both throats open together, balanced, std flywheel and a Tighe 140 grind cam. Its as lumpy as shit and has nothing until 3 grand but is still making grunt at 8000. Its a pain in the arse in traffic but a load of fun in the mountains around Toowoomba. For a stocky with a lumpy idle, go for a good old 26/65 like a Tighe 113 and work from there. Just keep in mind that a cam ain`t gonna do much without other mods, but its somewhere to start. 4. G`day mate, its always been friday saturday. I am guessing that the main day is saturday and by openning friday, it gives the stall holders time to set up and then time to pull down sunday. Stall holders are definitely not just locals. They come from all over the eastern states for this one and bring tandem trailer/truck loads. I`ve never missed one in the 15 years that I have lived up here and don`t intend to miss this one. There are cars and parts ranging from american vintage to modern day stuff and motorbikes etc. I don`t know if you have ever been to the Banyo Swap, but that is just chichenfeed by comparison. Mad if you miss it. Old Fella.
  5. I didn`t check the days mate, I just copied and pasted from the linked website.
  6. G`day all, if you haven`t been to the Toowoomba swap meet before, I can absolutely reccomend it for finding those hard to get bits. You`ll be amazed what people bring out of sheds etc. 34th Toowoomba Swap Meet Friday, 6 February 2009 - Saturday, 7 February 2009 Toowoomba Showground Glenvale Road, Toowoomba, Queensland 4350, Australia Cost: Entry fee is $6 for adults and children are free. Last year people as far away as Papua New Guinea, England and America attended the meet with around 1800 sites sold, making it bigger than the previous year. Around 20,000 people attend the swap meet. The two day event organised by Darling Downs Veteran and Vintage Motor Club Inc. starts on Friday February 6, at the Toowoomba Showgrounds and runs until Saturday 7. Gates open for stall holders at 5am. The general public will be admitted through the turnstiles at 5am until 9pm but the three pavilions will open at 9am. Entry fee is $6 for adults and children are free. Enthusiasts who wish to display their vehicles (30yrs plus) or special interest vehicles will be admitted free (driver only). Visit www.toowoombaswap.com for more information. See ya there. Old Fella. :S
  7. G`day mate, I am intending using the same hitachi carb setup on my 4k ke70. I`ve been looking for a manifold for about a year now with no luck. I`ve decided that I will get a cut and shut done and graft the Datsun outer manifold(from the balance chamber outwards) to the bolt up side of a 3k bigport manifold. Luckily I have a friend that can do the cutting and welding for me so the cost will be in beers rather than bucks. I can`t see why they won`t work after tuning etc. I ran 1 1/2 SU`s on my ke10 K motor way back when I was a hoon and they worked good as gold. Once I`ve got mine done(don`t really know when) I`ll be sure to post some piccies. Good luck finding a ridgy didge manifold, your chances are so slim they are almost anorexic. Best wishes, Old Fella. ;)
  8. G`day all, I just bought a set of Performance 6jjx14 +25 meshies to go on my ke70. I am uncertain of what tyre size I can use without going to the trouble of spacers. I run 185x13 now on a set of jellybeans and would like to stay at the same width, or wider if possible. Has someone out there already done this conversion? Thanks, Old Fella. :)
  9. g`day mate, at a guess I`d say that you have a thirty plus year old throttle cable that has never been lubed in its life. Rather than go to a wrecker and buy one just like it, ring around any of your local motorcycle dealers and ask if they will sell you a gismo called a cable luber. Its a little aluminium and rubber contraption that attaches to the end of the cable outer and allows you to spray lubricant inside. Might cost a few bucks but you`ll never have a sticky cable again. They are commonly used on throttle, brake and clutch cables on motorbikes. Good luck. Old Fella.
  10. Hey thanks heaps Shaun. I guess I should have looked first. Best wishes, Trevor.
  11. G`day all, I am wishing to upgrade the alternator on my ke70/4k so that it can keep up with a 1000w amp and a couple of 100w driving lights. Does anyone know what is the easiest swap to look for. Thanks, Old Fella.
  12. G`day mate, have a check and see if that sludge is water soluble. If so the problem could lie with your air cleaner not doing a good job. Although I don`t use a turbo yet, it seems that most brands will blow a bit of oil through in normal operation. Over heating would most likely not be related to your turbo unless you are using a water cooled type. If you are and you are using coolant not water (I hope) there could be a bit of leakage there too. Some coolants use a soluble lubricant and the sludge could even be that. Good luck anyway. Old Fella.
  13. Thanks heaps mate, my ke handles like a boat with the standard springs that are in there at the moment. I don`t want to go mad low, just want to stiffen and add gas struts and shocks. Old fella.
  14. G`day all, can someone tell me what model of falcon springs are commonly used in a ke70. ( lets not get into the cutting springs argument please, I`m just curious) Thanks. :)
  15. G`day mate and thanks for doing a great job organising weekend trips etc. I hate to tell you but unless things have changed recently, there is no camping allowed at Baroon Pocket Dam. I couldn`t get either of the links to open for me but did a google and that was the info that I came up with. All the best anyway and keep up the good work. Old Fella. :( :lolcry: :hmm:
  16. G`day mate, Its a fairly big job and I don`t recomend doing it yourself unless you have a workshop manual to reffer to. a. remove tappet cover b. remove rocker gear c. remove push rods. d. remove cam followers (a magnet on a stick can sometimes be a good tool for this) e. remove fan belt f, remove bottom pulley g. remove timing cover. h. remove timing chain and cam drive gear i. remove camshaft locking plate j. remove camshaft. You will probably have to remove the fan and radiator before you can pull the cam out of the block. Make sure that you replace all gaskets with new ones and don`t forget that the tappetts will have to be re-adjusted. Inspect the cam bearings and have them replaced if neccessary. That will require that the engine is completely stripped down to the engine block and a new set fitted by an engine builder or similar. I hope that I didn`t scare you too much, but better to be prepared for everything than get a nasty suprise when you least expect it. Good luck, Old Fella.
  17. G`day mate, my 4kc runs a thermo clutch fan and the water pump measures 96mm from the block to the front of the pulley. (where the fan bolts on) The pulley measures 43mm from front to back. Hope that helps, Old Fella.
  18. G`day mate, I had a quick look around and came up with a bit of info on the manufacturer of the wheels. Check out the website attached http://www.freepatentsonline.com/4275931.html It appears the W.R.Grace and Co. came up with a wire spoke wheel that is suitable for use with tubeless tyres. Good stuff because the old wire laced directly to the rim used to chew up tubes like mad. Rim bands only slowed the process a bit. A guy that I worged with many years back had a set of these on a Corona mk11 and they looked pretty schmick, but were a pain in the proverbial to keep clean. I tried to fit them on my Mazda 121 coupe( same as RX5) when he eventually crached his car but they were obviousle the wrong pcd. Dam shame coz they would have looked great. I dare say that they will be worth some good bucks to someone in the "chook cooker" circle, so don`t give them away. Anyway, cheers.
  19. G`day all, can someone tell me if TE71 and AE86 use the same length standard rear shockies as KE70/AE71. I have found some on ebay at a very reasonable price, but am not sure if they fit. Mine are stuffed and it is the only thing holding up RWC at the moment. Thanks in advance, Old Fella.
  20. Yes mate, there are bbq`s there and parking should not be a problem. If you have Google Earth, have a look. The park is situated at the very top of the range on the eastern side and on a good day you can see all the way to gatton. Its very picturesque and a must stop if you haven`t been to Toowoomba before.
  21. G`day all, I live in Toowoomba so I might make the journey to where ever it is that you are going to meet, just to have a look at your cars etc. Might I suggest that due to the changable weather at this time of year, come prepared. Last week the temperatures were in the high twenties and today reached a max of about 15. Bring a jumper. Although the Toowoomba range has a bunch of really fun corners, please try to stick to the speed limits coz you know who just loves collecting revenue and uses hand held and cameras on the range all the time. I suggest that Picnic Point is the easiest to find and most convenient spot to park, but the prices at the local shop up there are designed to trap the tourist dollar. Be warned. I won`t have my ke70 ready by the weekend so will probably turn up in my old Landcruiser. Have a safe trip guys and I look forward to having a chat . Old Fella. (Trevor)
  22. Discussion in another thread. http://www.rollaclub.com/board/?showtopic=33211
  23. G`day mate, I haven`t a clue on the Wade regrind, but the 112 profile Tighe cam is the absolute bottom end of their regrind scale. Probably very suitable to give a bit of a lift to your stock 4k but you will find that you will want to change it as you progressivly modify your engine. It probably won`t give a real lumpy idle either. (nobody stops at just extractors and exhaust, ever) Best to have a look at the page on this site " building a Tuff 4k" and then decide from there. I just don`t want to see you spend money only tho throw it away at a later stage. Good luck with the build. Old Fella.
  24. G`day mate, I`m old school and by my calculation you are getting close to 34 miles per gallon fuel consumption. If you get hold of some of the sales brochures of the era that your car was built, you`ll find that your fuel consumption for a car of your model is quoted as 35 MPG with an 1100 K motor. I personally reckon that you cop it sweet, I wish that my Landcruiser could get even close to that. Best wishes, Old Fella.
  25. I was given some 3k cams a while back, some reground by Camshaft Engineering in Brisvegas. No longer in business. The guys at Ivan Tighe`s were able to identify 3 out of 4. Their website is, http://www.tighecams.com.au/ Good luck.
