  1. Mate, thats as ugly as cat shit!!!!!!
  2. G`day mate, I had one of these years ago and absolutely loved it. They were a follow on model from the Datsun 240 K. Not overly powerfull (L24, 2400cc????) and mine was an auto (tbar 3 speed), but still a joy to drive. Trailing arm rear suspension giving full independant suspension made it handle very nicely for a stock car. Came with power steering and air con, velour seats, carpet, full instrumentation and a nice looking steering wheel. Dunno how collectable they would be now coz they suffered with the typical Datto rust problems of the era. I had mine for a few years and it wound up being sold to a family member who kept it until it eventually went to the wreckers. The auto dropped second gear at about 300k and the head gasket went around the same time. Both were repairable. All in all, a nice car that, in my opinion, was very under rated. Cheers, Old Fella.
  3. G`day mate, link. http://www.rollaclub.com/faq/index.php?tit...ies/Carburettor Cheers.
  4. AAAANNNGLE GRINDER TIME.......MMWWWWAAAAAHAHA
  5. G`day mate, it sounds like the carbs are out of synch. There should be a synchronizing screw in between the carbs on the throttle linkages that will increase or decrease the amount that number 1 carb is open at idle speed. Try turning the screw while the car is idling and at the same time using a peice of garden hose as a stethoscope and you should be able to get the carbs pretty close. Air mixture screws are located on top of the carbs near the manifold and unless you really know what you are doing, leave them to the experts. When the carbs are out of synch like this, you end up with cylinders 3-4 trying to race 1-2 because they are getting more fuel. DCOE webers are notorius for rejectin a small amount of fuel while idling if you have a lumpy cam. It comes out like a fine mist or small droplets when you accellerate. Good luck, Old Fella.
  6. Update....... Just pulled the head off the 4k and to my real suprise.....just a few marks on the top of the piston and the same on the squish band of the combustion chamber. The miss was because the spark plug gap had been pushed shut. Valves don`t leak during a petrol test. >| :lolcry: :lolcry: :lolcry: :lolcry: Total cost....one new head gasket. Gotta be happy with that.
  7. When I built my 4k I decided to use a 9" aftermarket chrome air filter setup. Bought a brand spanker to suit Holley from my local speed shop and with slight modification to the base was able to bolt it straight on. My motor does have a very lumpy cam installed and therefore lumps like crazy when idling. Last friday the engine developed a miss and a loud ticking like a bent pushrod and upon investigation, I discovered that the centre top of the air cleaner had fatigue cracked into several bits and been sucked inside the engine. I haven`t had the head off yet but I can almost imagine the damage that I will find. Just thought that I would share this info with you all in the hope that I can save someone ellse goung through what I have to. Good luck to all. Old Fella. P.s. and it wasn`t a cheap shit chinese knock off either.
  8. G`day all, I just scored a 5k to drop into my ke70 and need to know some stuff about the cam and rocker setup. I have a few 4k hotty cams and would like to run one in the 5k, but need to know if I can simply run 4k cam, lifters, pushrods and rockers rather than having to get a 5k cam reground. Thanks for any info in advance. Old Fella. Thanks heaps guys. What a wealth of info. I`ll probably go with getting the 5k cam reground to the same profile as the one that I`m using now. It seem s to be the simplest method and after a bit of research I`ve discovered that the hydraulic lifters will be suitable for the rev range that I have been using. Again, thanks heaps for all of the info. Old Fella.
  9. Same radio that was in my KE10 in 1970 and will work ok here. To set the preset stations, pull the black buttons out one at a time, find the station you want and push the button in all the way. Repeat for other stations. I seem to remember that there is a small hole on the bottom front to tune your antenna too. Find a weak station and insert a small blade screwdriver into the hole and turn either way until you have the strongest signal. Job done. Good luck, Old Fella.
  10. Mate, lets not talk comp trucks hey. Toyota diffs and transmissions are so much stronger than Nissan that it is not funny. Some, yes some, not all, comp trucks are converted to coil spring suspension for more flex, but only by the people that don`t know the wizardry behind double spring hangers and whinch operated leaf springs. I`ve owned 3 nissan patrols and 2 landcruisers in my time and I would never go backwards to a nissan. Have you ever thought why most "cow cockies" drive Toyotas? Coz they`re tough and they`re not made out of recycled oil drums. The only thing that I discovered about Nissans in the bush is the fact that there is usually a Toyota recovery vehicle close to get them out of trouble. Think before flapping gums. Old Fella.
  11. G`day mate, I`ve got a 1988 FJ62 Landcruiser as a daily. I`ve had it for 10 years and it has 300,000k on the clock. I`ve been everywhere in the bloody thing and towed some loads that would stop an elephant and I won`t be getting rid of it any time soon.. So far I haven`t had to replace anything that is not a consumable and the old jigger would still get me to Melbourne and back without any trouble. The only drawback is fuel. It gets about 15-19 mpg. (you do the math for litres per 100k) Its big, roomy, rides fairly well and has no bloody computers to stuff up in the middle of the bush. Carby, points, coil etc same as a 4k. You`ll find a few on ebay at the moment for not much money and they represent really good value for your dollar. You can easily use it as a daily and then go climb mountains on the weekends and never really lose money on the old things. After market parts are readily available and fairly priced. Personally I would stay away from old diesels and stick with the petrol motor. Fuel consumption is a bit different but the price of both kinda evens that out anyway. You or your mates can easily work on a petrol engine, but about all a back yarder can do to a diesel is wash it and change the filters etc.. Anyway mate, thats my two bob worth and I hope it helps you make a decision. Old Fella.
  12. G`day mate, they should work ok. Good score. Just a tip tho, repair the pin hole with a better quality super glue. I`ve done it a few times over the years and it works just fine. Just spread the pin hole a tiny bit and apply a drop. Job done. Good luck. Old Fella.
  13. Guys, here`s a bit of a history lesson for you all. Way back when America decided to ban the consumption of all alcohol, a bunch of "rednecks" used to run illicit booze called moonshine, thru the back roads of America at ridiculous speeds. A lot of these drivers were pretty shit hot and decided to have a contest to see who was the best. And so Stock car racing was born. That has carried on to be one of the biggest crowd pleasers in the world.(Indy 500 etc and V8`s in Oz and not to forget speedway) Correct????? Again, in America and all parts of the world where cars were sold, youg hoodlums like you and me used to hot `em up and see who was the fastest. When a whole bunch of people got killed enjoying this passtime, so came the birth of legal Drag Racing at legitimate tracks. Again one of the hugest crowd attractors in the world. Correct????? Rallying, drifting, burnouts, hill climbs, club racing, same same. Correct????? Now I ask the question. Why, when all of these sports have legitimate venues do youg blokes have to show off doing absolutely stupid shit so they can be heroes in front of their equally cranially challenged mates.????? Just take a look at the nightly news guys and see how many people are killed each week, or what is worse, maimed for life. Just wake up guys, ending up a vegie for the rest of your life will not make you a hero in anyone`s eyes. Old Fella. (pissed off with stupid topics like this one)
  14. G`day mate, good choice..... I did it many years ago on a 1200 cortina engine in a 1961 Anglia and it worked a treat. I used CB 750 k2 carbs (1969) and made a custom manifold. Not hard to do. The one down side was that the car didn`t like to start without choke and those particular type of carbs had a lever choke located on the side. If you go ahead, take the time to look for a set that has a cable operated choke because just about all of the early bike carbs have no accelerator pump. If it were me, I would be looking for a nice simple set like CB900f `79to `83(32mm from memory) or CB 750f (30 mm from memory) Absolutely avoid anything that has rubber diaphragms , coz replacement of diaphragms will cost your first born. I didn`t change the fuel pump setup, but instead made a larger fuel distribution tank that gravity fed the carbs after the stock fuel pump had filled it.(illegal I think) Most bike carbs only run about 2 psi inlet pressure so if you do want to use an electric setup, start looking for an SU pump from a Range Rover and a pressure regulator. Bike carbs do like to run with an airbox, so give that some consideration too. I have recently seen these types of carbs advertised on ebay for not much money and the same for the fuel pump. Most or any mororbike workshop will be able to synchronise the carbs. Its a speacilist thing that is not really possible to do in a back yard situation. 4 Vacuum gauges are needed. They are actually very similar to su`s in that they use a butterfly and slide setup. It sounds a bit daunting at first, but is very achievable for something different, so don`t give up. I got the bug to do mine from watching a `61 Anglia race car at Lakeside Raceway, that had a 170 Falcon super pursuit motor and six Amal Concentric carbs.Usta go like a dog shot in the arse and the induction noise was like nothing else. Anyway, good luck with the conversion and be sure to post some piccies at the end.(or even during) Old Fella.
  15. G`day mate, I woulda reckoned on finding out where the "ticking" is coming from before doing anything. Grab a long screw driver and hold it to your ear and start putting the pointy end onto the head, block and other parts. Acts like a stethoscope if you do it right. If you`ve got long hair......look out for the fan. There are a gozillion things that could make that sort of noise so its hard to diagnose anything without a reasonably specific location. Good luck. Old Fellla. p.s. I just hope for your sake that the furkinator spring hasn`t broken. They`re bloody hard to replace.
  16. Bargain time........ Aluminium Bullbar for my Landcruiser.........dirty but overrated......$30.00. 2x185x14 tyres near new..........$20.00. 2x Hella rectangular driving lights.....dirty but overrated.........$5.00. FIAMM twin air horns...........$5.00. There seemed to be a lot of Datto wheels and there was a ke10 complete but I only saw it as I was leaving. I`ll get my son to check it out tomorrow. If you`ve got the time to get there, do it. Cheers, Old Fella.
  17. G`day all, I read somewhere that if I lower my ke70, that I will have to put an adjustable panhard bar in too. I only intend to go 2" lower and can picture what happens to the body geometrically, but am wondering if every lowered xx70 has had the conversion done. If I do need to change the rod, I am thinking of using heim joints at each end for simplicity. Has anyone done that before and would that radiate too much road noise to be practical. Thanks in advance for any help. Old Fella. p.s. don`t forget the Toowoomba Swap Meet starts at 5 am tomorrow and ends mid afternoon saturday. Be there or be square.
  18. G`day all, please note that the Toowoomba Swap Meet website has picked up their mistake on the dates. It`s now Friday 5th and Saturday 6th of February 2010. Website,,,,,,www.toowoombaswap.com See ya there.
  19. G`day mate, I recently put new Bailey Channel in my xx70 drivers door. I got them from Clarke Rubber. They sell the stuff by the metre and one window cost about $25 from memory. Just take a sample with you and they sort it from there. Good luck.
  20. G`day mate, You are gunna have some hard work ahead of you doing the conversion legally. If you Google "Qld Transport vehicle mods" you can download a brochure that tells you what has to be engineered and what doesn`t. Then, if you are a P plater you won`t be able to drive it anyway. Think carefully before you begin coz there`s heaps of follow on mods that you will have to do to get it engineered such as brake upgrade etc. Not trying to put you off, but ............. Good luck with the conversion. Old Fella.

  22. Why ask us mate, ring `em up and find out.
  23. Just thought of an alternative to turbo charging for the cash strapped too. 1 Remove cylinder head. 2 Screw or araldite any old valve srpings to the tops of the pistons. (note...do not clean carbon from pistons or combustion chambers, it helps keep the compression ratio up) 3 Replace the cylinder head. No need for new gasket. No increase in compression. The added thrust from the springs being compressed swill help those little suckers really fly down the cylinders in double quick time. No extra fuel consumption problems either so the driver and the envioronment are both winners. I might actually take out a patent on this idea, so get in quick before you have to pay me for my expertise.
  24. Jeez, never thought of that. The tennis ball would help the piston to spring back down the bore faster too. New project here I come.
