nickxrx Posted October 22, 2006 Report Posted October 22, 2006 ok i have an 86 corolla gts, i swapped motors from stock 4age to an jdm 4age, so its the same motor, and here's my problem, i went to start it up and it wouldn't crank, so we messed with the timing and finally got it running ok, but still backfiring, but i have been working on this problem for two months, i have set the timing to many times, also it won't run where the timing is suppose to be, i have to move it, just to get it to stay running, but again it misfires and backfires like the timing is off and i took pictures and posted them on another website just to make sure and the timing is right, also its has compression and new sparks plugs and wires, so if anyone could help please do so, and the injectors are firing. nickxrx Posted October 22, 2006 Author Report Posted October 22, 2006 i tried that also, i swapped it out with one from my buddies car and it still ran bad. Quote
Des Posted October 22, 2006 Report Posted October 22, 2006 (edited) Maybe you distributor or cas has shit itself? Check that all the vaccum lines are in the right spots? Edited October 22, 2006 by too quick Quote
nickxrx Posted October 22, 2006 Author Report Posted October 22, 2006 i got another dizzy and still ran the same, also all the lines seem to be right there all hooked up. this is something ive been trying to figure out for about two months. Quote
irokin Posted October 22, 2006 Report Posted October 22, 2006 Exhaust camshaft jumped a cog. That'd put your timing out and make it run like complete shit. Quote
Des Posted October 22, 2006 Report Posted October 22, 2006 (edited) I'm just throwing idea's out there so bear with me.... The ecu sending the wrong signals? Injectors cloged or fuxord? Wrong resistance on the injectors? Try running optimax not Toothless joes 80-RON powah mix? Edited October 22, 2006 by too quick Quote
nickxrx Posted October 22, 2006 Author Report Posted October 22, 2006 what do you mean, because the little dots that you line up with 12 and five, they both line up, when i put it to top dead center. Quote
nickxrx Posted October 22, 2006 Author Report Posted October 22, 2006 ok when you say wrong resistance on the injectors, thats what i thought it was to because before i put new plugs in it, just to see if that was why it was running bad, two plugs were white, they had gotten to hot, so the car was running lean, but i never checked the resistance on them. Des Posted October 22, 2006 Report Posted October 22, 2006 (edited) This link shows the diffrences in injector colours and ohms. Injector info Edited October 22, 2006 by too quick Quote
Medicine_Man Posted October 22, 2006 Report Posted October 22, 2006 Sure the leads are around the right way? Backfiring is usually timing related or leads around the wrong way.. No wiring needed to be changed to suit the ECU during the engine swap? Set the ECU into the diagnostic mode to set the timing? ECU not throwing any codes? Quote
nickxrx Posted October 22, 2006 Author Report Posted October 22, 2006 well i tried doing that, but i don't think my check engine light works for some reason, i put a jumper wire to try and set the check engine light off, but it didn't flash, and i didn't know how to fix it or why it stopped working so i couldn't set the ecu Quote
nickxrx Posted October 25, 2006 Author Report Posted October 25, 2006 nevermind figured it out, thanks for your help Quote
