these are the pistons that my ze engine had.

notice that the one on the right doesn't have the "cuts" (clearance for valves?) on the head. i have visually compared the 2 pistons and them look identical in shape and size except for the cuts.

the 2 other pistons we pulled out are similar to the one on the left (with cuts).

is there any way of knowing if these are genuine ze pistons? or do i end up buying a new set to be sure?

in your pics above, is the same piston on the left all the way through?

the left one looks like a genuina 8.0:1 4agze piston

the one on the right looks like an aftermarket one

the catch is on the bottom pic i can see ART on the underside

ART make the 4agze pistons for toyota

heres some pics i have of new 8.9:1 and 8.0:1

thanks a lot for the photos.

i went around the wreckers but all of them were unsure of the odd looking piston (the one without the cuts). as all of them recall the ze piston having cuts.

naturally, i don't want to have any problems later on (like engine won't start for starters) so i've decided to get another surplus block (with pistons and internals). luckilly, i was able to source out what looks like a relatively "fresh" one.

Correct me if I'm wrong but i thought that gze pistons must run oil squiter cutouts too or is that just for the 3sgte.

I just thought sets i have made had in the past had the cutouts about 45deg from the pin on the bottum of the skirt.

i may be mistaken your thoughts Cam?
