  1. Has anyone tried to put a different diff into a KE20?? I just pulled out mine, and am about to bolt in a KE70 wagon diff and springs (with 3 inch lowering blocks) but I noticed that the original diff had the shocks bolting to the diff not the carriers!! and the shock tunnel doesnt give much room for change. I have reversed my carriers and will see what happens when I try to bolt it all up.
  2. When you look at a AE86 brake pedal box, there is an odd bracket on it (that bolts to the firewall) Its got these flared tubes on it to space it about 10mm out from the firewall. The KE30 booster was going to hit some things on the outside of the firewall, so I put 10mm tube spacers on the booster bolts to space the booster away from the firewall. Problem then is the booster bolts are too short so I removed the pedal box plate that had the flared tubes on it (the plate is spot welded to the pedal box). The position of the booster is critical as the clutch master is right next to it, and I had to tap in my strut tower a couple of mm to get the brake master not to touch the tower. I do have to re-inforce the pedal box to the steering colum/original box, as there is too much flex in the firewall. I will do that soon. The panelbeater did the rocker cover. Its some kind of wrinkle paint.
  3. Well its almost finished, my ke20 project. I used to own this car years ago, I sanded it back to factory undercoat and sold it to a panelbeater. Then I sold him a ZE. Now I have it back. Fully seam welded, *special* 4agze with $3000 race ported head and custom 283 degree USA billet cams, adjustable wheels, SC14 charger, very strong presure plate and organic clutch, the perfect T50, custom tail shaft, vl pump, racing recliners, new carpet, new dash, new roof lining, AE86 struts with RA60 calipers and vented rotors, borg warner panelvan diff. 2pak metallic blue with purple pearls. I am hoping for 12s, as I ran these cams in another SC14 ze (in a ke70 panelvan) and got mid 13s. The pedal set was a challenge, I took out the brake master and bolted a AE86 clutch master into the brake pedal. Then I got a AE86 brake pedal set and bolted that next to the old brake (thats now the clutch) then put in a KE30 master and boost, moved the accelarator and cable over, added remote resovior for the clutch master. The engine mount are custom. Next step is the radiator, wiring and finish the little things on the body (like windscreen)
  4. Name: Sam Car: 1974 KE20 Motor & Driveline: Twin Charged 4AGZE (GT28RS + SC12) Suspension & Brakes: Secret Wheels & Tyres: 13 Jellybeans Interior: Retrimed Grey (not vinal) Body: Fully seam welded front to back, Baked 2 pak metallic dark blue with purple pearl Other: Currently swapping bits into it from my 3rd owner granny KE20. Reclining buckets are mounted. I expect it ready for rego in 2-3 weeks. Funny storey, I bought this KE20 years ago as a project car from a long time loving family. I stripped it and bought a 4AGZE front cut but got side tracked and put the ZE into my AE85 Trueno. Eventually I sold the engine and the KE20 to a panelbeater 3 or 4 years ago. I bought it back last week, with the ZE mounted and fresh bare metal paint job. Not long now and it will live again.
  5. I have converted a gen 3 3SGE and a SV21 3SFE to RWD, its painfull but possible. Some 3S have RWD mount provisions, some don't. www.razorbackecu.com forum has info on the 3SFE conversion (got the engine running last week)
  6. It bolted straight into my ADM KE70 van, your van sounds spooky!
  7. How can u use a 4AC flywheel, they are 6 bolt. a 4AGE is 8 bolt. Use a 4AGE flywheel (not 4AGZE). Spigot bearing required yes. I disassembled a T18 T box and a AE86 T box next to each other. The main shaft is different internally so u can't swap the gears, and a T18 box had one less bearing (it had a bush instead). Externally appart from the shaft splines I don't know of differences. I have cut down the 4K mounts on a crossmenber to fit a 4AG (Cut off, cut down and re-welded on). Same angle and position, just lower to the crossmember (Shorter). This was in a KE70, so in earlier cars you would have to check sump / head clearence etc. I use AE71 engine mounts on the block. You probably have the short head-water housing at the back, that is good. Later 4AGE had a long housing that hits the firewall. The AE82 starter will fit if its a gear reduction type, but the main power bolt will be millimeters off the block, so cover it with something. The intake will face the wrong way so get a JDM Ae86 intake or cut and shut yours. Just use the remote thermostat housing from the AE82, I use some strip alloy and bolt it to the block near the engine mount, then my water pipes do a U from the pump to the thermostat housing. AE71 box is cool. bolts straight up, do use the metal plate from a 4AC (behind the flywheel). I am getting a KE20 in a week or two, with a 4AGZE in it. The guy made custom mounts from the block to the main crossmember, and he made a custom supercharger mount. I think he did this cause the RWD AE86 JDM manifold has long low runners that meant the charger would have had to sit horizontal and hit the chassis. I prefer my altinator on the exhaust side, close to the battery, leaving room for a charger too :hmm: so I use 4AFE altinator and bracket. 4AFE has 4 rib,5 rib main pulley; 4AGE has 5 rib, 5rib so the 4AFE altinator is out by 1 groove. Just use a belt with less grooves, or grind, shim the altinator forward a couple of millimemeters. I got some strip steel and a 4AC altinator adjuster strip bolted to the block down low. It was a tight squeeze between his sway bar to sump / pulley, and the head to the firewall. He hasnt started on the pedal set yet, but as KE20 has no booster, he is planning to mount an entire LiteAce van pedal set as it has under dash booster and master.
  8. There is a guy down the coast who put a 4AF in a KE36 panelvan. He cut a hole in the firewall for the dissy, I gave him twin 40mm solex carbs from a 2TG but I don't know it he used them. It looks like 4AF and 20V extractors are the same bolt pattern.
  9. Its an expensive and fidly conversion, I have done it. Beware, Gen 2+ 3SGTE, and Gen 3+ 3SGE don't have 2 of the RWD mount lugs on the block, there not there at all. I did a Gen 3 and had to make an adpater plate, that was fun. I have a 3SFE in an AE86, using most bits I got together for a Gen 2 3SGE. I didnt have to modify the rocker cover (I did for 3SGE). I am going to use the factory 3SFE headers, I rekon an exhaust place can make a bend to clear the mounts. Advantage of 3SFE - Uses 2S 6 bolt flywheel straight up. Gen 1 3SG has 8 bolt small radius pattern, Gen 2+ uses 8 bolt large radius. 3SFE and some 3SG have starter on box, so ring gear faces wrong way anyways. I got a full custom steel flywheel for the Gen 3. The Gen 2 I am working on uses a sloted Gen 1 flywheel. This is quite thin, so the clutch lever is near the end of travel. http://www.razorbackecu.com/3S/
  10. My KE70 panelvan has a 4AGZE in it, with SC14 and Nevo pulley. I am pretty sure I used a KE30 Auto crossmember, which bolted straight in. For the pedal set, I could not get a AE71 set, so I cut the clutch section out of the KE70 set, and bolted in a AE86 clutch pedal box. It eventually damaged the firewall slightly as I did not bolt the clutch box to anything else, so I removed the instruments, cut a slot with an angle grinder and inserted a nut where there is a hole, for the top pedal box bolt. It has been thrashed like this for a year now no problems.
  11. I use a set of the TRD copies, they come on about 5000rpm. I used to have a set of 4-2-1, and they come on much lower. I don't think there would be much power difference between them.
  12. I did a 14.38 @ 95Mph (1.00 reaction, 2.16 60ft) in my ZE KE70 panelvan, running 16psi, but with a damaged big port head that was limited to 6000rpm. I was getting like 30 or 40km/h out of first.
  13. They look like 3SFE pistons 4AGZE pistons are almost flat, but do have valve cuts.
  14. Checkout www.razorbackecu.com forum, I have got a 3SFE in an AE86
  15. MEDIA RELEASE Monday, 6 March 2006 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Mayor's U-turn on Lakeside Brisbane, Queensland - Lakeside Motor Racing Enthusiasts cautiously welcomed the announcement by the Pine Rivers Shire Council to invite 7 of the 11 interested parties to submit business proposals for the management and development of Lakeside International Raceway. Pine Rivers Mayor, Cr Yvonne Chapman, said Council was excited by some of the prospects presented by the interested groups, which encompassed a range of activities including motorised sport, driver training, youth programs, outdoor sport and recreation as well as tourism development. "The potential for Lakeside is enormous and Council will be looking at options that gain the best outcome economically for the community," she said. LMRE president Ian Milton observed, "This is a big change in attitude for the mayor, but it doesn't guarantee the return of club-level motor racing to Lakeside just yet." "We trust this will be a transparent tender process and challenge the Council to include a mechanism for both the ratepayers of the shire and the motorsport community to have input into the future of Lakeside - instead of getting another backroom heritage deal," he said. Mayor Chapman said, "Council would prefer a consortium of parties to offer an innovative, multi-purpose solution for the restoration of activity at the site." "This is our chance to once again turn Lakeside into a major drawcard for Pine Rivers - the flow on effects would be significant." Parties invited to submit business proposals are: Total Driver Pty Ltd RACQ YMCA Brisbane Willowbank Race Circuit Pty Ltd Motorcycling Queensland/Motorcycling Australia Queensland Police Citizens Youth Welfare Association Juniper Development Group Ian Milton noted, "Even though the list of tender applicants gives us hope, there's still a lot of unanswered questions like, what politically motivated hurdles are they going to have to contend with, what's going to happen in four years when the Heritage Council deal expires and how is the Council going to compensate us for denying access to our sporting facilities for all these years?" Council said it was hopeful of having an arrangement in place by September. ### For more information regarding Lakeside Motor Racing Enthusiasts, Inc contact: Scott Clark 0418 184 552 [email protected] www.lakesideraceway.com The Pine Rivers Shire Council (PRSC) continues to feel the heat from the motorsport community with an article "Battle for Lakeside" in this week's edition of The Sunday Mail. Earlier this month, the Queensland State Government has admitted in the media that the current strategy of focusing on speed is not delivering a real reduction in the road toll - specifically the youth market. LMRE has continued to make the case that Lakeside is ready-made solution that can provide amatuer motorsport drivers a SAFE ALTERNATIVE to 'hooning' and racing on public streets. Hooning survey gets cranked up... LMRE has already started receiving completed surveys from clubs and individuals and we would like to specifically thank Mr. Peter Brock for getting his done over the busy Christmas break.
  16. Undergroud hmm very interesting.... :D Dickhead factor I do know! If only bullets were sold at k-mart.
  17. A few years ago you could buy 100 acres for $30k at cabulture. I know you can't now, but if you had 100 acres, you could burry a track right in the middle, and even with residential growth no one could get near the track to live.
  18. Nice job dude! I saw one in Melbourne in '99, unfortunately he went through 3 sets of pistons, so make sure you limit the boost with a bypass valve!
  19. I saw some on a AE86 the other day, some guy welded house door hinges to his A pillars. I am serious!! looked good from a distance, will get a photo next time! Made the door pretty bloody heavy (no struts in it yet)
  20. My AE85 Trueno came with a 3A, should be an easy swap for you as it had a cable clutch and K gearbox with one peice tail shaft. Mine made the same power as a 4A but less torque (it revved great). You get a tiny clutch with them but.
  21. How stiff do you want it? Chuck in Wagon or Panelvan rear springs and front springs from a heavier car, like a Ford Falcon (but you probably don't have them). Those springs are pretty stiff Find a twin downdraft carbie manifold (Toyota optional part) u will notice the difference. Wagons also had factory headers that help a bit. I put TE72 struts, springs and steering arms in mine, the brakes arnt much bigger but feel heaps better, and the springs are a little stronger. No quick racks, ke55 doesnt have a rack! Its got a box, if its got heaps of play in the steering, try tightening the grub screw on top of the steering box. Get some good brake pads. Shave the head and get the cam reground if u can, thats cheap
  22. Most Borg Warners have a small metal tag bolted to the back plate that says the ratio.
  23. I don't know of any stand alone computer that can run a 1ZZ/2ZZ due to the odd number of teeth on the pickup, a second odd numbered pick up on the cam, and the constantly variable cam timing with separate lift control. I have heard of turbo 1ZZs around, using the factory ECU for everything cept fuel (and possibly timing) and a piggyback. Problem is, the ZZ toyota ecu knows absolutely everything, it knows oil pressure, cam position, catalytic convertor quality!! mixtures, monitors feedback from all ignitors, it measures knock on individual cylinders etc. 'son of a bitch is doug in like an Alabama tick' Thanks Schwatzenegga!
  24. I am happy to pay $100 for some fun. By the time it gets to $150 it would not be looking so good. Cause I got to add to that petrol and possibly tires (and tow truck knowing my luck lol)
