Some of the more clueless teachers at school used to call them pop off valves.

 

The ET turbo pulsar/exa has a pop off valve, It is situated after the butterfly and relieves manifold pressure, They still make a noise but it is fairly quiet.

there also ther so the don't over boost aswell!! mine has been sealed up :jamie:

Yes as i said, It relieves manifold pressure (only a certain amount can be held in there), Mine was open and i was still running 9psi.

a $2 plumbing plug from Bunnings can fix the overboost valve.

step 1 - remove overboost valve

step2 - install plug

result - no overboost relief, works great for boost application of 9psi or more.
