Teddy Posted August 10, 2004 Report Posted August 10, 2004 Hey all Well, just a question, If i ever wanted to increase the size of my front disks...what would i use? (as in what disk & accessories from another car would i need) Thanks  Quote
demuire Posted August 10, 2004 Report Posted August 10, 2004 how long is a piece of string? So many options, so many different approaches. Quote
Teddy Posted August 10, 2004 Author Report Posted August 10, 2004 ah ok! Well, just say i wanted bigger disks which will make my car stop faster... and i don't want to spend "Too" much money..any ideas? Quote
irokin Posted August 10, 2004 Report Posted August 10, 2004 RA65 Discs, calipers and backing plates. I havent done it yet but I THINK the RA65 discs bolt up the the KE70 hubs and I have a feeling the RA65 backing plates are the same pattern as the KE70. Go to a wrecker and have a poke around with a measuring tape. Quote
demuire Posted August 10, 2004 Report Posted August 10, 2004 If you really want to do it on a budget, are you sure it's the size of your discs that is to fault? Have you tried getting better pads? Could make a big difference. Else yes, have heard of the RA65 option. Also XT130 option, and many others. Quote
Felix Posted August 10, 2004 Report Posted August 10, 2004 think you may find that the ra65 center hole is to big. may need to change struts. ke70 218mm daimeter, 12.7mm thick. just had a quick look at the DBA disc catalog (www.dba.com.au), and it seems ke70 panel van (228 mm dai 12.7 thick) and ae71 panel van/ae86 (234 dia, 12.5 thick) discs should bolt up, all have same center hole. no idea of backing plates. also consider better pads, and maybe ducting. irokin Posted August 10, 2004 Report Posted August 10, 2004 I have a guy giving me two worn out RA65 rotors so I'll let you know how it goes.... Quote
Teddy Posted August 10, 2004 Author Report Posted August 10, 2004 ah ok - thanks for all of that info people  ! Quote
pro_ke Posted August 10, 2004 Report Posted August 10, 2004 rob sharp suggests EBC pads on the stock setup with a crown master cylinder (according to another forum) thats all on ke20 brakes, says hes never had a problem on the race car Quote
andrew Posted August 10, 2004 Report Posted August 10, 2004 aern't ae86 brakes supposed to bolt up? Quote
andrew Posted August 10, 2004 Report Posted August 10, 2004 (edited) ah hah my corona will have the backing plate removed to help with cooling. Edited August 10, 2004 by andrew Quote
Super Jamie Posted August 11, 2004 Report Posted August 11, 2004 celica rotors are way different. ae86 brakes don't bolt up to corolla struts, but if you get ae86 steering arms you can change the whole strut. but if you were going to do that, you'd change to cressida or corona struts, like in the toymods tech article about brake upgrade Quote
Felix Posted August 11, 2004 Report Posted August 11, 2004 (edited) ae86s run the same wheel bearings (kit no. TJ114A) as some earlier corollas. other vehicles sharing same wheel bearing kit: celica 4/74-11/77 corolla/T-18 74-83 AE RWD 83-86 sprinter, van and all AE71 *it says AE RWD 83-85 sedan & wagon Excluding AE71 run TJ119, so something is different there. above from CBC wheel bearing catalog remember ke70s have different backing plate bolt patterns to ke55 and earlier. the backing plates are possibly the same for ke70/ae86.
