Teddy Posted August 23, 2004 Report Posted August 23, 2004 Hello All Well, pre paired to be bored to tears with my latest design ! (lol, bord in spare @ school, what else to do than design a motor? !) So, my idea is simply keep the general layout of a cylinder motor - (vertical) but place 2 electronic magnet's @ the top, and 2 at the bottom of the cylinder(see pic) So, basically i was thinking u connect them upto a dizzy type design which can Make the top magnets '+' Positive, and the bottom Negative '-', (piston = positive) - (Dizzy spins and changes positive and negative charge in magnets) So, you have the top magnet positive charged, and bottom magnet negatively charged (and piston is just positive) - its going to force the piston Down to the bottom - but when the piston gets 99% to bottom of cylinder, dizzy has fu-fulled its 1/2 loop and changes the charge around - complete opposite charges to magnets suddenly making the piston go up again. (complete opposite direction) So on, So forth. Yup, its a patchy design, but i wonder if it would actually work in real life? Comments please :D ! Quote
andrew Posted August 23, 2004 Report Posted August 23, 2004 its a good thought and i think it would work as a model, but, i can't see it making much power....... although, it works with electric motors....... *looks at spare 4k block and some magnets* Quote
Teddy Posted August 23, 2004 Author Report Posted August 23, 2004 How about if it was done on a relatively small 12 Cyl, but using very high current / voltage (what ever the word is) ? spare 4k? - ohh - try it and see how it goes lol Quote
demuire Posted August 23, 2004 Report Posted August 23, 2004 It will probably work, except I recon a traditional style motor would be a lot more efficient... Quote
Teddy Posted August 23, 2004 Author Report Posted August 23, 2004 i was just Bord in a spare @ school - thats all :D Quote
irokin Posted August 23, 2004 Report Posted August 23, 2004 waayyyy to much friction....keep it simple...umm..simon :D Quote
demuire Posted August 23, 2004 Report Posted August 23, 2004 Bord in a spare @ school Are you going for the Can't-Spell-Of-The-Year award? Quote
Teddy Posted August 23, 2004 Author Report Posted August 23, 2004 Bord in a spare @ school Are you going for the Can't-Spell-Of-The-Year award? Sorry...but is it such a big issue? - its understandable isn't it? :D Quote
demuire Posted August 23, 2004 Report Posted August 23, 2004 (edited) In all honesty (maybe I'm too old or something), no I didn't understand that. Bord = Bored in = in a = a spare = spare @ = at? school = school "Bored in a spare at school"??? I take it you meant you were bored at school? Or maybe "spare" = "stair" in which case you were bored in a stair(well) at school? Or maybe an "@" is a description of some sort, in which case maybe you were bored in a spare "@" school, where the school is described as "@"? Oh oh, I know. Maybe "spare" = "stare", then it would be "Bored in a stare at school", which would kinda mean "bored while staring at school"? Or is it "bored while staring in school"? I really don't know. demuire Posted August 24, 2004 Report Posted August 24, 2004 Sorry Teddy, probably a bit harsh there, I was in a bit of a funny mood... :D Quote
Ruts Posted August 24, 2004 Report Posted August 24, 2004 Sorry Teddy, probably a bit harsh there, I was in a bit of a funny mood... :D Its ok Fook - I was thinking that as I read the initial post for the fourth time - but I did get the BAWD IN spare @ SKEWL bit ..... I must have old eyes too - in fact I know I have older eyes than you guys. Quote
Teddy Posted August 24, 2004 Author Report Posted August 24, 2004 i don't want to appear to be annoyed here, (I'm not annoyed) but for the future, if my post(s) really gets to you (who ever it may be), just edit it and change it without adding all the bold stuff, colors, etc... I'm on here to enjoy my self & learn more; sorry if such a small thing caused such a big earthquake... Quote
demuire Posted August 24, 2004 Report Posted August 24, 2004 Heh, all good Teddy. If anything at all, you should be commended for having such an inquisitive and to a certain extent creative mind, something not many other people have. Yes, your idea is pretty clever, but I don't think it would be anywhere near as efficient as a "traditional" electric motor, simply because a lot of energy is lost changing the direction of the piston as it goes up and down, vs a traditional motor where very little of that energy is lost because most of it is converted into movement in a constant direction. In illustration, if you have a remote control car or something similar, try running it in a forward direction only, and then try again going forward and backward, and you'll find that the batteries will last a lot longer just going in one direction (either forward or backward) than constantly changing it. But yes, keep it up, and I think you'll be onto bigger and better inventions in time to come! Who knows, the next invention to revolutionise motorcar engines? The rotary was the last big one (variable cam, etc etc weren't really all that breakthrough...), and that was AGES ago... Quote
ae71neo Posted August 24, 2004 Report Posted August 24, 2004 its alright teddy, i knew exactly what you were on about :D Quote
