Well i didnt wanna turn Des's thread into an arguement so I thought id open up this, My mates rx2 is registered as a 1.3L, It may be different for cars that did not come out with a factory rotor (non mazda in other words), And i know that the transport dept sez to double it but then why would they say this:

Who will high powered vehicle restrictions apply to?

 

From 1 July 2007, provisional P1 and P2 licence holders under 25 years of age must adhere to vehicle power restrictions.

 

If you undertake your practical driving test for your provisional licence in a high powered vehicle and want to drive away in a high powered vehicle after you pass your test, you will only be able to do so if you are 25 years of age or older, or have an exemption.

 

What type of vehicles may be restricted?

Provisional P1 and P2 licence holders may be restricted from driving the following types of vehicles:

 

• vehicles with eight or more cylinders

• turbocharged vehicles (except diesel)

• supercharged vehicles (except diesel)

• vehicles with an engine output of more than 200kw

• vehicles with a rotary engine above 1146cc

• vehicles with an engine performance modification that is not standard to the original manufacturer's vehicle specifications and requires approval from an approved person.

 

Going by what everyone else is stating you cannot drive a rotary full stop if you get your P's in the period cause isnt 1146cc x 2 a 2292cc, Just something you should think about.

RTA, QLD transport says to double the cc rating when performing an ENGINE CONVERSION, an original, factory mazda rotary's plate will say the correct cc rating eg. 1.3l.

In terms of racing, and so forth, I'm pretty sure they class it as double.

Its basically because they class the rotary engine as a 2 stroke. This is were the double figure come from.

 

But to be correct, they should actually tripple it rather than double. The reason being there is 3 full revolutions of the eccentric shaft (rotary crank shaft) for 1 full revolution of the motor. Ie, to have a combustion in all 3 faces of 1 rotor, the e-shaft will turn 3 times.

 

So yes, in terms of racing it's deffinately double. Thats why even 12a powered cars have to race in the "Improved production - Over 2 litres".

Nah, His is regd as a 1.3L everyone tries to tell me that there is no chance cause they get regd as double that in every car, It is my fault for thinkin that a conversion is still classed as a 1.3 and not 2.6 tho.
