ae71wagonater Posted August 28, 2007 Report Posted August 28, 2007 hey everyone, I have an speco meter electrical oil pressure guage and sender that i want to install on my ae71 with 4age 20v silvertop. I can see the original oil pressure sender and wire just forward of the oil filter, my question is do i remove the old one completely or make a T piece so i use both?. Cheers :D Quote
Des Posted August 28, 2007 Report Posted August 28, 2007 If the 20v ecu uses the original sender for some reason you will need it, If not piss it off and put the new on in. T piece's work wonders if it needs both. Quote
Jono Posted August 28, 2007 Report Posted August 28, 2007 not sure how the oil light would then work, it may currently be triggered by the ECU when the OEM sender reaches a certain value. i have the OEM 4age sender hooked up to my ke20 oil pressure light and it glows brighter and duller depending on whats happening. i'm getting a VDO "sender/switch in one" unit so i can get my guage happening. Des Posted August 28, 2007 Report Posted August 28, 2007 I have a light hooked up in my Corona and a oil pressure sender and just used a T piece. Light is always good as you will notice it more than a gauge reading high. Quote
kangaroosa Posted August 28, 2007 Report Posted August 28, 2007 (edited) I run a Speco Elec Oil Pressure Gauge on my KE30. Along with the standard oil pressure light. I use this fitting in the link. They can be purchased from any parts shop. CLICK Word of warning though....I have sheared two of these off on the threaded section where it threads into the oil filter mounting. I think it has something to do with the engine shake that i get from my cam, and the heavy sender hanging off the end of it. The last time was about 2 months ago. It pumped all my oil out, and the first i knew about it was the strong oil smell. I looked at my gauge whilst doing 80km/h and found that i had 5PSI. :D Shame the oil light didnt forewarn me. I'm very interested in rigging up an oil pressure warning light, there is no light in the guage or on the ae71's dash cluster, how do you do this? Quote
Des Posted August 28, 2007 Report Posted August 28, 2007 I have a v6 in my corona so its just getting power from the oil pressure switch, Easy. Led lights are brighter :D Quote
Jono Posted August 28, 2007 Report Posted August 28, 2007 there should be an oil pressure light in the ae71 dash. Quote
towe001 Posted August 28, 2007 Report Posted August 28, 2007 You could always have a hose fitting on the block with a hose running to a tee-piece that has the oil pressure senders bolted to the car body. Just don't use copper pipe for the remote mounting :D Quote
philbey Posted August 28, 2007 Report Posted August 28, 2007 there should be an oil pressure light in the ae71 dash. yes, definitely. I've never seen a car that doesnt have an oil pressure light. Its the most rudimentary warning light employed by car makers. Some cars will have "engine", "eng" or a picture of something vaguely resembling oily gaugy things. Quote

Des Posted September 2, 2007 Report Posted September 2, 2007 (edited) Shotty gauge or sender, Could be wrong sender with wrong gauge aswell. Edited September 2, 2007 by AE70 Quote
colonel Posted September 2, 2007 Report Posted September 2, 2007 Bought guage and sender in a pack together, so should match up. All brand new too. Quote
