Hi, I have two 5 speed gearboxes here and want to know what the difference is and what they are out of.

The ribbed one is currently in my car, just got it out due to clutch problems.

 

here they are:

The top gear box looks like a K40 with a K50 rear housing on it and the botttom one looks like my K50 I have in my car

the top one looks just like a k50 i pulled out of my parts car...

that top one is 100% a k50

Top one is a stock KE55/30 K50. EXACTLY the same as one of mine.

 

As for the top gear box it again is a K50 BUT. The K50 out of KE70 the shifter was further back AND had the ribbing on the shifter section of the box. Your top one doesn't have ribbing on the rear section but does on the front. Now I have found all 4 speed boxes from all modes from KE1X to KE7X had ribbing. So we can say that one is a bitsa box. It has a K50 rear section out of a KE55/30 and the front section could be from any 4 speed etc from any model OR it could be a KE70 5 speed front section with a KE55/30 5 speed rear section.

both are k50's. the bottom one is the first of the k50's, had smaller front bearings & hard to find parts for, the top is the updated version, larger front bearings & different lay shaft for the bearings, as for ratio's there all the same - use the top one

yes of cause,both are K50 five speed gear boxes.bottom one is first edition,fitted with corolla KE30 SL/GSL , KE35 SR5 and starlet KP30.top one came with corolla KE50 SL/GSL/SR5coupe, lift-back and KE55 5speed models.gear ratios are all same.use top one.it is a upgrade.
