If it is in the car still crank the car over compression will pop it off. If you do that I like to just keep 4 head bolts slightly in still so it wont blow it sky high.

I'm stuck with the two bolds on the exaust manifold int the middle can't seem to get to them ideas?

i would try the crank over thing but the head is lose and i can move it around but just not off !

The 2 middle bolts can easily be removed with a 14mm socket on the correct length extension bar and a ratchet....

I wouldn't unbolt the manifold at all unless the gasket is faulty.

 

This post is asking about a quick head gasket change, if the head needs machining the manifold needs to come off anyway. it will save you 20 min. leaving the manifolds bolted to the head.

Then you need a gasket for the flange in the exhaust that you separated...and you spend longer than 20 minutes undoing and doing up the rusty old bolts in the exhaust? Manifold gaskets are dirt cheap and easy to fit...I fail to see the advantage in what you want to do. As the manifolds are bolted together (unless extractors are fitted) they both just move to the side of the engine bay carby and all and sit waiting to go back on.

If i remember correctly, removing the manifolds with the stock exhaust and intake manifold was a piece of cake.

14mm socket on an extension....or even a 14mm spanner for the middle bolts if i had the shits up and was getting frustrated.

 

I have extractors and a twin side draft carb manifold. The only way i can get to the middle bolt is by means of a 14mm open ended spanner cut in half. The alternator has to be dropped down low to allow hand access under the extractors.

Then its a case of tightening the bolt 1/6th of a turn at a time.

 

So if your having drama's with the middle bolt, try chopping a spanner in half and getting to it how i described above.

I Ran higher compression, shaved head and block on my 4k. I frequently had to change head gaskets.

 

It seems Everyone has an opinion what the is quickest/ Best method.

 

IN My opinion If you have spent 3 days trying to remove the manifold in the car and Your taking the head Off anyway do it on the bench, just unbolt the exhaust flange 3 bolts it only takes 10 min, disconnect fuel/ vacuum lines and lift the head and manifold off together.

 

 

You will Have to re place the manifold Gasket now you have already undone most of the nuts.

 

On my own Cars I always replace all manifold flange studs with stainless and fit new brass nuts when rebuilding the engine.

my exaust flage aint rusty and i don't car putin that back my exaust is only done up by one any way so just like undo the exaust and head will just come off ? grr wish i new that 3 days ago !!!!!!!! cause my car and shits already disconected grrgrrgrr lol owel

I don't understand how you can possibly still not have those 2 bolts removed? They take under a minute each with a 14mm socket, extension bar and a ratchet...What are you having trouble with?

ok well manifolds off finally needed longer extension. but i can lift the the head of now i have tried screw drivers and thing it wont lift of any other ideas.ive put a picture up just to help yas see if i havent undone anthing I'm pretty sure i have.

Can't be sure, but it looks like you may still have a head bolt in on the distributor side about half way down.

 

Why don't you buy a manual?

cause its just a drift beast only for track and burnouts as its defected but I'm reapairing everything and going to spray it and shit.

also does anyone in sa have a set of extractors they don't need ? and want to get rid or really cheap ?

Now a question can i know soak the head in grease and oil remover spray ???????????/
