greenmac80 Posted June 6, 2008 Report Posted June 6, 2008 Ok i have an $800 devilbiss compact spraygun and pressure pot setup! i've been told that a supercheap auto compressor won't give the pot enough pressure. then also two of them linked will presurise the pot but won't atomise the gun and three joined will atomise the gun but not for long. i've been lookin at a lot of different compressors. 3 phase, diesel, petrol, electric. they all have different tank sizes and flow rates. now what do you think i need? can i get away with a smallish tank but a really good flow rate? or do i need a large tank more? i just don't know! i need a compressor to be able to spray a whole car with! love ke70 Posted June 6, 2008 Report Posted June 6, 2008 to be honest, i can run a 3hp 15amp compressor to feed a a gravity feed gun all day without a drama at 50 psi. but a sander its flat out holding 70 psi. so it really depends how much air you really are using. whats the CFM on the gun? do you have access to borrowing compressors? just try and see what can keep up and what can't. i usually run my 3hp 3 cylinder belt drive in conjuction with my 2.5hp direct drive and with the two it will keep 80psi to the sander for an hour straight, but the water trap ends up filled. trouble with smaller compressors is they work much harder and breathe alot more water than a big f@$k off compressor that just lumbers along and doesnt batt an eyelid at flowing 3 guns at the same time. PatW Posted June 6, 2008 Report Posted June 6, 2008 My first Taiwan made Comp with 3hp are pretty noisey. My neighbors gave me the evil eyes all the time!! Skip the cheap ones. Quote
greenmac80 Posted June 6, 2008 Author Report Posted June 6, 2008 hmmm didn't even consider hiring options. anyone know much about 3 phase power? how to get it.. cost? Quote
Des Posted June 6, 2008 Report Posted June 6, 2008 Unless your house has a 3 phase outlet its out of the question. Jono should be able to shed more light on 3 phase stuff. Quote

greenmac80 Posted June 6, 2008 Author Report Posted June 6, 2008 you can get 3 phase put on des, its just abit exxy to get it done ??? des?? exxy?? Quote
4DRFRK Posted June 6, 2008 Report Posted June 6, 2008 youll need a decent size tank so you don't run out of air whilst spraying and even if it kicks in then it will probably be too late and you will have inconsistent air BTW, is the gun a GTi? ($800 is a bit pricey depnding on which rung it is on however) if so when it comes time for pots and nozzles etc, get a quote off your local guy then pm me and ill try and beat it (include all part numbers quoted on") Quote
TE278U Posted June 6, 2008 Report Posted June 6, 2008 an australian made MCMILLAN 3hp 16cfm will do the job. expect to pay for the privilege tho, around $1020 inc GST. we sell heaps of MCMILLAN compressors, no probs. bigger tank equals longer air delivery between motor running, equals cooler motor equals motor longevity. hope this helps. i can give u the name of a mcmillan distributor in adelaide if you like, or i can have one shipped from melbourne for about 80 bucks. love ke70 Posted June 6, 2008 Report Posted June 6, 2008 is that free air delivery or pump displacement? Quote
irokin Posted June 6, 2008 Report Posted June 6, 2008 Trade tools compressor. Will last forever and cost sweet bugger all compared to other brands. Quote
TE278U Posted June 6, 2008 Report Posted June 6, 2008 most compressors are advertised as displacement as it makes tham sound better, but even though some others advertise 16 cfm, there free air delivery is a lot lower. i don't have the FAD specs on me at the moment, sorry. maybe at www.mcmillan.com.au ?
