Yeah some of the more cosmetic changes are:

Different Dash in later KE55s (Mid 80s and on)

Square headlights (mid 80s and on)

My KE55 is a 5 speed factory box

Other little stuff like door handles and things like that.

My owners manual says 875kg for a Stock KE55 manual.

S13 struts in TA22....I assume possible in other toyotas too. Bring on fully ajustable TEIN/JIC/CUSCO coilovers.....

which is interesting, because alot of s13 guys upgrade to FD rx7 brakes by swapping the LCA and strut don't they?

Havent heard of that....but I'm still relatively new to hardcore S13 modding. Most guys seem to go for skyline discs and calipers which are basically bolt up (bar re-drilling the discs). Then you can go to GTR calipers (brembos.. *cough* $2000+) from there.

Took Lola racing on Sunday. I'm thinking she only has a standard 5-speed box, DEFINITELY not a Supra one. She was only doing about 160km/h max, well before the end of the straight. Which transmissions were used in the KE55 (eg. K40, K50, T40, T50, etc)? Does anyone know the factory ratios (diff as well as transmission)?

it would have to be either T40 or T50 box......wouldnt it?....to be behind a 4agze......HIGHLY unlikely that it would be a K50 or K40....

may be W50........but prolly not.

ancullen: Sorry, no internet at home means not much reading of forum for me these days.

Yes, that would be me (that brake setup). Yes I've spent a fair bit of money on the car (not all on the front brakes!!!), but you can have a similar brake setup for cheaper. I got a lot of new bits, so had to pay the cash for it. Plus, I've got a few "extras" like adjustable Koni shocks, T3 roll center adjusters, Kmac adj strut tops, adj height coilovers, shorter AE86 powersteering steering knuckles etc etc.

Basically, XT130 or RT132 struts (Corona). Pug604(?) discs, you'll have to slot the holes slightly to fit, about 1mm I think). Then use either Hilux or Landcruiser calipers, I forget the model. They'll bolt on. You'll need to either shave the discs slightly, or shave the insides of the calipers, because the discs are actually slightly too big. You'll also need the steering knuckles off the XT130/RT132.

If you're running with standard springs, then you'll need to get a set of AE86 springs (lowered, Kings part number I think KTFL33). That will set the car at stock height, so if you want lower you'll need a set of even lower ones. You'll need to get the top spring hat from an AE86 too. Then just use your KE35/55 strut tops.

You'll find that you'll have a bit of positive camber with this setup, due to different kingpin angle. You can fix this by either getting adj strut tops, or using longer LCA's. Longer LCA's you can find in Mitsubishi Scorpions/Sigmas. They are 2 different sorts, both will need a custom bush to get it to bolt on, apart from that, no worries. I had a strange problem of the discs fouling the LCA, I think if you got the later model Sigma/Scorpion LCA's (2 piece), they should clear. I've got the earlier model 1 piece ones.

Alternatively, you can do the S13 conversion. I've seen it done on a Datsun1200, and on a TA22, and apparently it's a simple conversion.

oh 4A-GZE...hahahaha missed that little detail... I thought it was stock.... T50 from an AE86 is my guess.

Now that's the kind of thinking I like. Cheapness rocks! Plus, if I do the S13 conversion, I would think that there'd be plenty of brake & suspension upgrade options for later down the track.
