hey

i put a 4k in my car other day n noticed that it makes a weird ticking noise

my mate has same engine in his rolla and it makes same noise

and few other cars.

my 3k so so quiet and the exhaust sounded sweet.

does any body know why 4k engines make a weird ticking noise???

Hey myles have you bought an manual for your car yet ? alot of the answers to you questions are in there. Id come and help you but I'm on the other side of the city to you.

I might have a manual here but its packed away and sealed in boxes. You don't need many tools to work on a K motor, get a basic tool kit for xmas ? only if your keen about messing about with corollas.

let me know how stuck you get getting this engine running and well go from there.

Ok mate well i haven't got a book yet.

i am going to try and drive it to the show and shine

i got a few tools its just so Frustrated because i have not got any one to help me and i got no idea what i am doing

yea i done that mate might have to get done up just a little more

Its good to see your having a go, hope your leanring heaps. It can be pretty frustrating at times. Even i get frustrated when i come accross new things at work :lolcry:

valve clearances or timing chains to buddy myne does it can't be f@$ked fixing it lol

it's the tappets,

mine does it too

no real harm just quite annoying

but, you probably should tighten them if they're really loud

haha that fixes all noises. gearbox..diff... head. and bananas are also delicious and good for you

mine did it for 40,000KM until i sold it, probably still does it, tappets were always set to the spec, one was always a little ticky though.

probably wear on the cam, or a valve spring getting tired.

go get yourself a gregories repair manual, will tell you how to do it :P

 

you will need, a few spanners, a good flat head screwdriver, some feeler gauges, and not alot else really.

a bit of patience to to get the knack of not overtightening the tappet when you tighten the nut.

my 4k still makes the noises

it is not the tippets

its only when i flatten it tho

when it is just idelling i hear a whinning noise

its about to break i can tell

and when i try to start the car it is like there in not enough power or something is getting jammed

then it finally kicks over
