Hi

Have a 1988 AE95R with 350K on the clock

don't have the coin for a 20V conversion

and from reading here cannot do a drop in of an AG becasue of the block cutout issue.

I can pick up a complete 4AFE and ecu etc for not much coin at all- sub $100 or close to it

what can be done to the 4afe to give me a bit more torque mainly and HP if it happens

the car is used for a daily driver/ fun bush bus- but with some camping gear and kids in the back it just doesn't go anywhwere fast

I know sticking with the AFE engine it still wont be anywhere fast-- maybe just not SO embarrissingly slowly.

so I throw my horribly inadequate knowlede on your mercy in the hope that you guys can give me some simple ideas

I have used the search funtion and came up with 18 pages of stuff- all of the posts seemed to recommend an AG or AZE or 20V upgrade- but my need 4 an engine cutout to fit the $wd box exclides those

so guys what can you offer me-- what have you got at home that you want to off load to me.

thanks

to fit the 4wd diff lock control mechanism- there is a section of the lock cut out in the 4AFE motors that is not done in the 4ag series motors untill you get upto the 20V models

AFIK 20V models were fitted to 4wd models in Japan but never imported here

hence the 20V models also have the block cut out

without the block cut out the 4wd part of the gearbox / gearbox lock up will not be able to be fitted to the engine

I don't know if the &AFE motors have this cut out or not and have NFI if the &AFE's have the block cut or not

I haven't been able to find that out anywhere

Does anyone here know if the &afe has the required block cutout for fitment of the 4wd box/assembly??

thanks

thats interesting, where is this block cutout located? I have a spare stuffed 20v engine and a rusted bigport block to compare with this. You could potentially get the block machined

well I did a comparasin between the early and 20v blocks I have and the 20v block does have some machinign in that area, if this is what you need I don't know. However from what I can tell your problem is solved with some time and a trusty grinder. So I say get the 4afe, see if it fits and grind the block till it does if theres any issues. Your car should run really well with that engine too; decent torque, better fuel economy (in theory) and a reasonable power upgrade. I think you should do it
