trav_555 Posted December 9, 2008 Report Posted December 9, 2008 just wondering, does it actually read when you putting out peak power or is it preset or does it turn on to tell people you are meant to be shifting but your too rice to do so? Quote
styler Posted December 9, 2008 Report Posted December 9, 2008 (edited) its set for a certain engine rpm - peak power, peak torque, redline, or user choice. or if factory then factory set at whatever they deem the max rpm shift Edited December 9, 2008 by styler Quote
trav_555 Posted December 9, 2008 Author Report Posted December 9, 2008 ahh ok cheers man not much point then unless you have it dynoed and tuned then aye, then set to perfect rev change cheers Quote
Misled Posted December 9, 2008 Report Posted December 9, 2008 my opinion is that if your car came with one factory standard then don't get one... it looks incredably stupid when you see a nice rolla with dash trash.... if you are going to get one then install it discretly or just get the shift light in a subtle colour ..... get your car tuned to Quote
tas_ae71 Posted December 9, 2008 Report Posted December 9, 2008 before i got my tacho dash i had a smaller one with a little shift light tucked under the dash infront of the clock. the light does come in handy when you have a helmet on as you can't hear the revs as much and you don't exactly wanna be lookin down to see how many squilions of revs its doin.. Quote
Misled Posted December 9, 2008 Report Posted December 9, 2008 just don't get a bright orange light and then set the revs low ... Quote
LittleRedSpirit Posted December 9, 2008 Report Posted December 9, 2008 I agree they are valid. Its easier to use your peripheral vision to know when to change, than to ogle a gauge for a reading. I often turn my digital gauges off at night and just shift by the lights. Ive got one that comes on just before peak and another that comes on when the power stops increasing and you really need to shift, now. The first is orange, the second is red. Mine are flush installed lights from repco, not big phallic aftermarket dildo things with glowing ends. Quote
KEhendo Posted December 9, 2008 Report Posted December 9, 2008 how would i go about fitting one to my ke20? the car does not have a rev limiter and when engaging in "spirited driving" i don't know how hard to push the engine. is there a way to put in one of those dual stage lights like LittleRedSpirit mentioned without getting all the other gauges to go with it? (ie. just the lights) i'd like one at the optimum shift and one at max rpm. just so i know what the engine is doing. Quote
coln72 Posted December 9, 2008 Report Posted December 9, 2008 A shift light used correctly is a great tuning tool to improve lap times. Set it so it just comes on at the end of a straight, change cornering technique and if light comes on earlier you are going quicker :D Most are wank value though. Quote
trav_555 Posted December 9, 2008 Author Report Posted December 9, 2008 yea mad mad, yea the one little red spirit is talking about sounds mad, nah no dildo ones :D might have to look into something like this that goes soemwhere, will ponder on this muchly cheers guys, so rice mods do come in handy sometimes ahaha Quote
OniBerserker Posted December 9, 2008 Report Posted December 9, 2008 i was looking at a gizmo shift light a while back, was about $70ish at the time should have got it was a lil square black unit with green, orange and red led's lit up as the rev range increased like GGGGGGGGOOOORRR was the only type i saw that i actually liked Quote

Gotta love Adaptronic. They would work without the Gauges screen in the car, but youd need an Adaptronic ECU. I believe if you run carbs you just need one triggered by a Tacho or the coil. Quote
trav_555 Posted December 10, 2008 Author Report Posted December 10, 2008 ahh but i want to go 7ke setup on my 4k when i get some cash so that will be what i go with then Quote
philbey Posted December 10, 2008 Report Posted December 10, 2008 It's not really a ricer accessory, its from drag racing mainly. It's really only useful once you know your power and torque curves of your car, then you set it so you are optimising the next shift to stay in the cars powerband as you go through the gears. Quote
trav_555 Posted December 11, 2008 Author Report Posted December 11, 2008 yea sounds like it might be alright, even for drift, so who has a dyno i can use to tune my car, and stuff i don't have lots of cash though.... Quote
