Alright as funds allow me I'm planning on building a ke71 or ae71 drifter.

What is the absolute minimum I will need?

I want to take it out to track days and not get laughed at. I'd prefer not to do a engine swap until later on.

I was thinking of building my own 70 or 71 with a maximum of spending 5000 throughout the whole build. It's more fun that way. But sadly I might go the s13 path if it looks like a un-realistic idea to do the 70/71.

I'm buying a R31 or S13 very soon but I really don't want to slide that one as it will be my daily/cruise car.

+ 1 for what everyone else said. The price of S13's now make them hard to turn away as a competent cheap drifter.

Ke's and Ae's will cost just about as much to get the same standard and parts availabilty and cost of parts is higher for Corollas due to lack of popularity and age.

With $5k, you should be able to build a *E7* with a 4AGE and decent suspension all round (AE86 struts, brakes, etc). You could actually have a little left over to spend on the motor. It'll definitely be enough to get you drifting, but won't compare to a S13 I wouldn't think.

go to toymods and buy the AE86 with 4AGE conversion for about 3-4k. it's a bargain. if i had the space at home id buy it, paint it panda colours and sell it for profit but alas i live in a unit and we already have 4 cars between the two of us

don't go to the dark side man stay in the light there are many a sick little *e7* drifters getting around man and then if a *e7* isnt what you want then go the 86 they are both potent little drifters it's all about the driver and how the car is setup!!

Sprinter/AE86 sounds awesome! They are renowned drifters so don't exactly have a laughable name against them.

I honestly wouldn't be worried about having a KE70/AE71 drifter either. I'd much rather prefer it, because of the big

"COROLLA" badge on it.

I had a skid pan day not too long ago and I had an absolute blast in my completely stock 4k KE70. Even the guys

that ran the show said that I did an amazing job with what I had to give.. a free spinning diff (not LSD or locked)

and a 1.3 ltr motor.

Although if you go down the KE70/AE71 path, a 4age/ze conversion would be a good one to take for the extra

oomf. Or an even bigger/better motor :)

Good luck.

He wants to be able to drift it straight up and then do a conversion later, The CA will be better to start with (even tho I'm toyota biased) and then just throw a turbo on later on.

just thought i'd let u know I'm just bout to finish a ke70 conversion myself..

start: standard ke70 83 auto

now: 4age manual, locked diff, coil overs in front, cut front falcon springs in rear, R32 GTR front seats,

2inch exauhst straight through muffler, interior completely sprayed black, adjustable pan-ard rod,

15/8" GTR Supa lights, 86 struts and brakes in front, Ae 71 cross member, lots of other little bits and pieces,

my budget was 5000 spent around 6000 give or take a few dollars.. on the road in a few weeks best feeling

ever mate building it yourself.. good luck with what eva u do..
