emu Posted February 26, 2009 Report Posted February 26, 2009 FITTING A 5K TO THE KE30 CAR HAS FACTORY AIR WITH A DOUBLE PULLEY ON THE HARMONIC BALANCER AT END OF CRANKSHAFT, AND WE'D LIKE TO PUT THIS DOUBLE 3K PULLEY ON THE 5K SO AS TO KEEP USING THE AIR, BUT CAN'T MOVE THE BLOODY BOLT HOLDING IT ON ANY SUGGESTIONS PLEASE ?? MUCH APPRECIATED, PETE 0413 133233 OR [email protected] Quote
drc_ke20 Posted February 26, 2009 Report Posted February 26, 2009 use a rattle gun or breaker bar,if not use a your ratchet and put a pipe over it for leverage as you do that stop the flywheel or ring gear from spinning with a flat bar on the tooth gear. *N.B. screw back one of the bell housing bolt on the block as a counter pivot aswell for you flat bar to rest on. hope it helps, good luck! Redwarf Posted February 26, 2009 Report Posted February 26, 2009 Gday Pete. Yep, rattle gun, or if the engine is in the car, put a breaker bar and socket on it, wedge it against a rail (you'll need to work out which rail :lolcry:) and turn the car over on the starter. Should break the bolt that way. R Quote
greenmac80 Posted February 26, 2009 Report Posted February 26, 2009 i like that idea redwarf. i tried once. had the car in gear with handbrake on and foot pushed har as down on the brake pedal. breaker bar and the f&*ker still didn't budge. car just moved instead! Quote
Taz_Rx Posted February 26, 2009 Report Posted February 26, 2009 Yeah I use the method that Redwarf mentioned. As he said you need to think about it for 5 seconds and rest the breaker on the right chassis rail. Probably more inportantly, the bit he forgot the mention is remove the coil lead to the dizzy so that the car doesn't start when you do it. :lolcry: Quote
SLO-030 Posted February 28, 2009 Report Posted February 28, 2009 Imagine the imminent destruction of resting the bar on the wrong rail  ...then remembering that the coil lead is still attached :y: :) Quote
67Rolla-Ken Posted February 28, 2009 Report Posted February 28, 2009 I had to use the torque wrench on mine, was still bloody hard to get undone. I thought I was going to break something. Quote

Sounds good for the wrench. If the pulley is stuck on once the bolt is snapped off, put equal pressure either side with a pair of levers and then tap it with a hammer, it will slide right off. Most people go one side then another and flog them out. Quote
SLO-030 Posted March 1, 2009 Report Posted March 1, 2009 When i undid mine on the new 4k (when it was in the shed) I put a piece of flat bar on the flywheel and turned the engine over untill the clutch bolts locked against the flat bar. and to remove the pulley, i used two bolts through the tapped holes in the balancer. alternate between the two every 1 to 2 turns of the bolt. just make sure you have something behind the pully for the bolts to press against. You will find those threads are there for a bolt on centre point puller. I say be very careful if you do it that way, you really don't want to bottom anything out on the motor if you can avoid it.
