Update:

Not much but I got another steering wheel for this last night. I got a twin cam wheel out of an AE82, I figured it was a good idea to stick with a stock looking wheel.

Soooo much better, it is closer to me, and also it doesn't bend when you steer like the crap AE71 one did. The steering wheel these things came out with is so poor, feels like you are wrencing a coathanger.

I went for a spirited drive with the new wheel on and I love it, so much better to drive :D

I will take a pic when I can find my camera :D

so what required to fit the wheel ? sounds good

Did you need a bosskit to fit it? i would have thought so, but I suppose its a standard wheel so maybe not?

Travis

i wouldnt think so considering the splines are part of a standard wheel.

Undo old wheel, bolt on new wheel. Simple as that  The Corolla enblem on the shitty standard wheel pops out with a screwdriver to reveal the nut. I just loosened it a little, and haggled with the wheel (with the nut still in place loosely) until I got it off the spline :(

The Twin Cam Wheel has a boss attached to it so it sits prob 2 - 3 inches further out than the standard wheel, which is what brings the wheel closer and therefore nicer to drive. It is recessed enough on the inside though that the standard bolt fits on with plenty of threads and it just goes straight on the spline no worries. Also the Twin Cam Wheel has a bit of dish to it which brings it out even further.

Horn works perfect straight away too

what wheels did u get lukey :(

No new wheels at this stage, was looking into some but I need to sell the Sigmas to reveal some cash

I was saving up but then yesterday I went to U Pull It looking for some parts for my brother in laws car and ended up taking a whole treasure trove for myself also so there goes some more cash

After the weekend's trash and treasure at U Pull It I now have the following:

- T18 Chrome Bumpers front and rear - not sure what to do with them yet, they don't suit slant front at all. Eventually may change to flat front on this car due to need to paint front end anyway due to some fading issues.

- T series rear end (complete) and tail shaft - to go in this car after being refurbished, new bearings, paint etc.

I need to do some research regarding diff centres for the T series. At present I have a 4.3 ratio auto diff which helps with the 20V to get the revs up. If I put the T series in with stock centre (or locked) it will be a 3.9 ratio which won't help much :)

I am now on the look out for some XT130 LCA's and maybe the XT130 brake upgrade for the front.

I now want to upgrade more and more, really getting a taste for it now :hmm:

Posted

get a 4.3:1 LSD for the T-series, or 4.55:1 if you can find one.

If you are going to upgrade struts, go for AE86 items with jap brakes instead

Cheers, Ben.

Yes but the XT130's are a twin pot caliper so I would say they are better than the JDM 86 struts. Also read up yesterday on doing a disc brake conversion to the T series rear end, so that will happen before it gets installed. XT130 parts if I find them myself at U Pull It are going to be cheaper. I haven't seen many JDM notchbacks or anything 86 for that matter just sitting at UPI for me to pillage :hmm:

Either way more research is required.

I will be going for 4.55:1 or higher as that will keep the revs up in the happy range :)

A little update

Had a decent offer come in for my Sigma Turbo wheels so seriously thinking of getting rid of them. I am thinking of just running 14 inch steelies painted black with a chrome trim ring for a little while. It will look even more sleeper I reckon but it might let the overall look down. They will do though while I find my ultimate wheel choice whatever that will be.

I took the car to Yorke Peninsula on the weekend and it performed flawlessly :bash:

Choose and choose wisely,

It MUST be one of these:

And in 14" with good offset, +/-0 is optimum

EDIT: Darn its small... hang on ill find a bigger one

RE-EDIT: there you go :bash:
