hell if it costs THAT much to do a rally/race car in oz I'm never gunna move there.

over here, for $10k you can build a damn good car... especially if your talking ke70! of course buying one already done is cheaper, but if you don't have to pay for labour building one can be done for under $10k easy

harnesses $150-300 each

terratrip $250-450 2nd hand

4age $1200 (rebuilt 20v)

link ecu $12-1800

gearbox $1000 w5# and bellhousing

theres the bulk of it..... and those are imflated prices, shop around and scrounge and you will find cheaper

It's all the little things that make it expensive. If I were to just list down the bulk of the things in my car, it'd be under $10K too. But add on all the little silly things and I'm pushing $15K...

I understand the merits of buying an already setup rally/circuit car. All the hard work is done for you. However, on a rally car, I'd assumed the shell as such would have been a consumable item over time. I remember some rotary rally driver on another forum saying such. The shells get "floppy" over time spent bouncing and careering through the bush.

 

If ones looking at an ex-rally car, is there things people should look for? Do logbooks show racing incidents or are they're merely a "this car competed here, DNF'd there". How many competitions or seasons is the usual 70's/80's era rally car looking at, before you' have to consider re-sheling as part of your purchase cost.

yes the little things can add up.... but you can still build a good car for under $10k.

mates built a ta63 race/rally car, cost them $7500 from scratch.

Both the Datto1200 and the Datto1600 for sale here currently are tarmac cars. The Datto1600 was set up by Ken Graham (of Accurate Suspensions, who currently owns that very very phat yellow Datto1600)

Dino rocks. If I didn't have Hal, I'd definately buy Dino... I've already almost bought it once (even had the money ready! But then Evan got to it before me...), wouldn't be too hard to buy it again :)

Archerfield raceway has those sigma races :D cheap to run and will be fun :)

Sigma races? Man you're lucky. Up here in Darwin we've got something similar (except for high school kids only) called Clubsport 16. It's Geminis only. Yuk. At first it was going to be Escorts and Geminis, but no one got an Escort racing, so Geminis it was. It's a pity there wasn't a 1600cc K-series motor, otherwise Corollas might've been considered.
