Caught up with Henry last night. Prognosis is: porsche strut could be an option for a KE10, need a spacer on the bottom as the strut body of the 911 item is shorter. This most likely means that the total stroke is shorter, but not by a lot.

Once I've got the new struts in the 911, I'll get it out of the shed and put the rolla in for a more comprehensive study!

Looks like it might be worthwhile rebuilding these Konis!

I got a set of NOS Koni's to suit a KE10 off ebay some time ago. I've put them in the car but i'm still not really any closer to driving on them.

Maybe i'll have to make a call to Koni to see if they are a shorter stroke item or not and if down the track they could rebuild them. Being Koni its a reasonable assumption to make that they are shorter stroke, isn't it?

Not sure about that. The body of these is about 60mm shorter but the stroke didnt seem all that different, which makes me think that the koni valve and damper assembly is just much more compact than the stock Gabriel ones Henry had just bought.

yea i luckily hunted down some gabriel ones, through sprint auto... they had like 5 books of susspension products and 4 of them had no listing for a ke1*.

I'm going to run them with a ke20 spring and top hat and see how i go.. the ke20 springs are alot thicker and stiffer!

will post up some pics when I'm done! :lolcry:

If you are ditching the leaves and running ke20 springs: You will find the ke20 springs are too long and won't lower the car unless trimmed (but still captive).

Problem is the spring seats are just to close together on the ke1x struts (even using the ke2x top spring seats).

A coilover sleeve kit and shortened strut housings with shorter shocks really would be the best way of doing it.

spoke to a guy at 'industrial springs today', who knew alot about the ke10 and 20 style suspension set ups..

and he said the best way about going about it is to remove the front leaf pack altogether and run custom ke20 style / stiffer, thicker springs in the front.

basically making the car have a similar suspension setup to a ke20. elminating the leaf packs.

i have a custom set of 2.5 lower and 4.5kg springs on order, hopefully this does the job.

think i will probably get a whiteline swaybar as well.

I've been looking around a bit more henry and if I can find the right shocks to do the trick, I'm tempted to run some weld on Coilovers that people have mentioned before. Otomoto have them for 300 bucks!

mattress, would you possibly be able to get the part number off those Konis, they should be stamped on the body and I can probably cross reference the stroke lengths etc.

I'm about to lower my KE15 and i have KE20 struts with original strut inserts.I took them apart and have some ideas for them. Have any of you guys tempered with the original strut inserts, shortening it etc.?

check out my photo album "my ke15" the pic called "stuff going in. ive had mine lowered a ʞ©$ɟ load with the handling feeling better than before by 1000%. but this was not a home job. sometimes you got to pay for stuff that you can't do (in my case the welding mods to the struts). the rear leaf springs were reclamped and refurbed and flipped upside down ( sounds crazy but lots of old racers did this to make them stiffer) with pedders shocks can't remeber the kg rate but could find the invoice later. the transverse leaf was removed completely and the front struts where aftermarket ke70 but cut and the seating ring for the spring was moved this eliminates the horrid feeling under braking other swaps can give, this combined with the noltec struttops bring the camber from the original positive to what feels like heaps of neg camber but looks about neutral to the eye. the struts where done at brad jones engineering alubry. i have a whiteline swaybar to go on too, but till the KW go upthere is no need. check the other pics to see before vs after for ride hight . or just shoot me a msg. happy to help.
