SLO-030 Posted December 29, 2010 Author Report Posted December 29, 2010 Cheers guys. After getting off the phone with Woz, I'm gonna attempt to get away with only changing the center. Swap the crownwheels over if need be. Anyone know if the bolts that hold the crown wheel on are left or right hand bolts? I did a falcon one once at trade school. Noone knew it was a L/H bolt. I ended up snapping the head off it thinking it was R/H thread. Hoping to avoid that this time  Quote
SLO-030 Posted December 29, 2010 Author Report Posted December 29, 2010 So tonight was rather fruitful, for such little work Took the rear cover off the diff and let the oil drain. Whilst slightly metallic, it wasnt anything to be worried about. Spun the center around to look for the dead spider gears, and to my suprise, nothing was broken. Got my mate to chuck it in gear with the clutch depressed. Spun the tailshaft and Voila, found my problem. BLOWN GEARBOX!! So I'm off to Jason's place to pick up a 4K for the pano and a temporary 5spd. Looks promising to have the car back on the streets tomorrow afternoon :D Quote
nme308 Posted December 30, 2010 Report Posted December 30, 2010 So does this 'temporary' gearbox come with a can of MECHANICAL SYMPATHY??? :P  :P Cheers, Jason Quote

Hence why I'm gonna be on the lookout for a KE70 4 or 5spd right away :P Pretty sure i've nuked the main shaft as it doesnt like the tailshaft being rotated in any gear. Quote

LXY-642 Posted December 31, 2010 Report Posted December 31, 2010 Nice gears lol. Reminds me of when I stripped the reverse gear in my vl. Quote
SLO-030 Posted January 2, 2011 Author Report Posted January 2, 2011 So the gearbox was finally in yesterday. As was the button clutch. Damn clutch is gonna take some getting used to. Totally changes the behavior of the car. Not keen on forking out almost $460 for a replacement thru Exedy. We live in hope for trade price :rolls: Quote
