I was told that I would be able to put a twin Cam head on the 4ac block??

Is this true?? If so what would I need to do??

I wouldn't know, but at a guess I rekon you can just bolt it on. Depending if you want to run fuel injection or not that is

up to you, but if you can get a head cheap enough without the fuel injection it would be a little cheaper and maybe a bit

less stuffing around with wiring if you ran carby's. Mmm.. Twin side drafts :P

It is possible, but I'm pretty sure it is more than just a bolt-on effort. For the cost, you might as well just get a whole 4AGE (they're not that expensive, especially bigports) and drop it in.

Totally.. Then it's just a bolt-in operation. :P

This is for an AE86 right? If you've got a 4AC in there then you'll already have a T50 (unless it's auto)

Seeing as how you're US, you'll need to do a bit of work to a redtop (ie smallport) to make it RWD (intake/exhaust manifold, water pipes, thermostat etc), if you can get a RWD bigport it would simplify things a lot.

Of course either way if you're going EFI then you'll need computer, loom, EFI fuel tank/pump etc no matter what.

Yea it's a AE86

Good to know I already have the tranny

The motor I found is a red top 4ag out of a mr2

I believe that it's the big port i would have to check

As far as the motor mounts and all that good stuff I will be able to use??

All the 4A blocks are brothers. There's a few different cranks pistons and rods internally, but the bolt holes for the engine mounts are all in the same spot. You'll need to cut and shut your manifold or buy a RWD one off ebay.

Or just buy a carb manifold and some Webers or if your feeling really tricky, some FCRs.

No need to install an efi fuel system if you carb it, although in my opinion efi is superior to live with. Easier starts and better economy.

Beerhead is spot on, a 4age will physically bolt in. You can use 20 valve motors with some work, which are the last 2 versions of the 4age, but they need some tricks to fit them. The bigports from the twin cam Jap delivered AE86s will bolt in and all the accessories will work like magic.

Many people believe the smallport series of 4ages to be the best NA motor, as it has a slightly stronger bottom end. I prefer the 20 valves, theyre very rev happy. don't forget the 4agze motors either. They don't run much boost factory, but still go great. If you turbo them you can make a lot of power on a stock motor for a fair amount of time. There are different versions of 4agzes as well, many people feel that one is better than another for whatever reason. All I know is they all take punishment.

Just bear in mind that you will be swapping stuff around to make any 4age work in rwd, as they are all basically front wheel drive delivered. You need an AE86 bigport if your lazy, or the same setup as delivered in the Carina of the same era.

do a search on this forum and ae86dc for your answer. The short answer is yes but not worth it. You need as a rough guide to do it properly:

crank

rods

head

piston

cam belt drive gear

crank pulley

flywheel

and so on, so basicly its cheaper to just buy a 4age
