Dave SX' Posted June 12, 2005 Report Posted June 12, 2005 this may have been covered before but i thought i'd ask... has anyone ever made one of these before??? they can be dangerous but they are hell fun... i made one and it shot a MDF projectile thats the same size as the barrel (2") through a 16mm MDF wall from 15 meters away... its fun as!!! i took it to a quiet park and it can easily fire the same bit of MDF about 100 meters... and it cost about 40 bucks to make!!! Redwarf Posted June 12, 2005 Report Posted June 12, 2005 We had one made from tractor exhaust, with a teflon coated barrel. 400m with an orange! Quote
Jusdrifn 86 Posted June 12, 2005 Report Posted June 12, 2005 we made one out of pvc pipe... with a Y piece on the end. poke the potato down the top with a long stick undo the cap on the end of the Y piece and spray butane aerosol in there then there was a small hole in the other end of the y in which we shoved a sparkler up... we never got to see the potato land, it went a f*cking long way! Dave SX' Posted June 12, 2005 Author Report Posted June 12, 2005 heh heh heh ... yeh mine is made from pvc too... this thing will shoot through a 44 gallon drum... crazy fun for 40 bucks! Quote
Jason Posted June 12, 2005 Report Posted June 12, 2005 (edited) the question should be... who hasnt made one?!?!1111 one one Ive also got a air cannon :) more fun, cept you need a air compressor the stand was so you could aim the thing with out knocking out your shoulder Edited June 12, 2005 by Jason Quote
crazy_bunny Posted June 12, 2005 Report Posted June 12, 2005 weve made some nice ones here, latest one was made from 400mm PVC... yet to fire it... but hopefully it goes off with a bang. Quote
Dave SX' Posted June 12, 2005 Author Report Posted June 12, 2005 yeh make sure you use the right pvc... i used one specially for high pressure water pipes... and even used the special pvc glue they sell... i've tried a few different propellants but aero guard seems to work best... pitty it stinks! Jusdrifn 86 Posted June 12, 2005 Report Posted June 12, 2005 jason is nuts! i think sudam may be jealous Quote
Jason Posted June 12, 2005 Report Posted June 12, 2005 (edited) all sch80 pipe with high pressure primer and green glue. Taken it up to 180psi. Pipes rated 320psi (Absolute max) To bad i dropped it while it has pressurized, and blow/cracked the bushes for the tank. So now i need to cut it off and get 80mm > 25mm male thread again. Measures 1.2m from end to end. over 130m/s at 100psi threw a C battery wrapped in gaff tape which Mushroomed into a rock wall. Also great for shooting PVC rockets and losing them through out the neighbourhood. :) Edited June 13, 2005 by Ruts Quote
Super Jamie Posted June 13, 2005 Report Posted June 13, 2005 sch40 is what they use on all the big spudgun sites. using plain dwv pipe is dangerous but it's how most are made you'll get alot more power out of a compressed air cannon than an ignition cannon, you can also remotely trigger them for safety i like the "sliding can piston" type cannon, where you have a can that pressurises and seals one part of the chamber, and the barrel, and pressurises another part. you let the pressure out one side of the chamber, the can slides back and all the pressure on the other side rushes out the barrel guys i've read have made golfball cannons that shoot over 400m i have a little dwv-pipe ignition spud cannon which i made before i knew how to do it properly, and i don't fire anymore because i know how unsafe it is a decently made sput cannon should set you back about a hundred bucks, three quarters of which will be pressure pipe and fittings Quote
Jason Posted June 13, 2005 Report Posted June 13, 2005 (edited) the shc80 is about 1cm thick, rated much higher. There called piston cannons. They allow for incredible vale opening time (which limits most like mine) So the valve is fully open almost instantly. With sprinkler valves, they tend to flutter and not open fully until the projectile has left the barrel. Edited June 13, 2005 by Jason Quote
dysolve Posted June 13, 2005 Report Posted June 13, 2005 we made one of these 10 or so years ago and pushed heaps of ball bearings into the potato and shot it a an old gemini wagon for about 60mtr's away, when the potato hit the car it sprayed all of the ball bearings everywhere, the potato when right through the car door and the bearing left what looked like a shot gun blast all over the side of the car, even broke the drivers window.... , it was made to shoot tennis ball's and it easily over shot an AFL oval, cricket balls only went 50 or so meters.... Super Jamie Posted June 13, 2005 Report Posted June 13, 2005 (edited) CRICKET BALLS!?! omg haha when i built this one, me and a mate went out the industrial estate and tried to get it to work. we had way too much spray stuff in there so it wouldn't ignite. we tried for ages and eventually gave up, i said "oh well i guess it's not going to-" clickBANG. we didn't see it, so we turn around to go back to the spud bag and here this big "boong", it's hit a shed. an open shed! we're watching the shed and are like "they're not coming out, they're not coming out... oh shit they're coming out!" and did a runner back to the car and scrammed we then went and let some off near an old country fire station hut and that was tops :blinks: my ke10 shell also had spud stains on it when i wrecked it :(( Edited June 13, 2005 by Super Jamie Quote
