after it was dry , took to it with a hack saw and removed the excess over hang,

then sanded the edges up with 180# smoothish and ended up here,

at the same time as doing this , i was stuffing round with the ke70 console, this thing was prety boken when i got it from the wreckers,

so was in need of some extensive repairs, also had to make brackets up for it to bolt onto the tunnel,

used filler on the gaps between the new plastic and old on the console,

next was cut out a hole so the gear stick could come thru

then back in the car to test fit

got the console and the ke70 console bolted in ,looks like this

next was design a surrond for the gear stick

111crn.jpg

and that will look something like this , also drill some holes for some switches for random things

and then drilled some bigger holes for 2 gauges

done a bit more tonite thought id share some more progress :)

still on the console ive made the gear stick surround, took the cardboard shape from the last pic and

traced out the shape on to plastic, used the jigsaw to cut it out, drilled some holes for mounting into it,

and then sanded it back and smoothed up the inside edges and out side shape.

and wola a cut out piece of plastic ,

this is how it looks sitting on the console

but because the plastic is straight it wont sitt flush with the curve of the console::

so i used the same method i used to bend the plastic onto the console, taped it on and heated it up,a slight push and then taped it down and let it cool off,

75733633.jpg

then the straight plastic turned out like this , a nice slight curve to match the console :)

75599854.jpg

put it back on and marked the holes ,

25176014.jpg

then taped out the holes with this tool ,

39138725.jpg

took a bit of time but threaded the plastic and the plastic holes threaded pretty nice

then found some stainless cap screws and washers and screwed it on

next going to work on the stereo mounting hole

haha no problem lol,

so havnt done much lately ,its been pretty dam cold in the work shop so been staying out , but i do think ive figured out the speedo problem,

turns out the gear on the sensor is differnt to the cog thats on the stock cable type drive gear, so this could have something to do with it not meshing properly,

??? possibley that makes it rather difficult, because the sensor has a removable gear with a circlip so you would think just take it off and swap it with the one needed,

unfortunatley the gear that is on the stock drive isnt removable and sealed to the shaft, sooo thinking about trying to combine the 2 gears to make one,

the outer gear to mesh with the gear box and the inner portion of the speed sensor gear, could be possible to make one out of the two, but very tricky and most likely would fail at some stage

if it indeed actualy worked ,............. hmm so I'm stuck on this one for the moment , which is slowing me down becasue the gearbox is now empty of oil, and I'm doing wiring around the gear stick area,

kinda need the gear box full of oil and have a working sensor before i can replace parts......

but managed to get my centre console and hand brake console

also covered the arm rest with fabric and made a new piece for the hand brake out of fabric also , turned out prety nice

On the topic of the speedo, have u checked that it actually works?

I know heaps of nissan dash's that have a problem with the speedo or tacho.

yeah i checked it to day , wired it in and hooked a drill to the end of the sensor and gave the drill a wirl and it made the needle move ,so my wiring was right the sensor also works ,think its just a case of the gear doesnt mesh properly O.0 still stuck

Man that console turned out nice.

lol at superelectrics comments, its so true!

cheers took abit of time on it seems to have come together well, managed to get the 2 consoles fitted and all wired up,

sooo much wiring !!! stereo works now, it actualy works realy well, have components at the front running off the amp, rear components(cheers evan g)in the back doors running off the head unit and 10" sub in the boot running off the amp, it cranks pretty hard but more importantly the sound is very clean and clear, which is what i was after when first designing the system,so pretty happy bout that,

its got blue tooth as well i had my phone playing a playlist and blue toothed it thru the head unit , thought that was realy cool, no cables just wamo magic haha,

also got the gauges hooked up , bit concerned on the fuel pressure one tho,its reading like 53 psi and I'm pretty sure the stock pressure is spose to be 43, not to sure how acurate those gauges are, but something mite have to keep in mind, may have to install a fp regulator to control it a bit better,

haha well must be an issue for the nissan speedos then , the first cluster i was using ,the speedo wouldnt work no mater what i did,i thought i had been ripped off lol,but i removed another speedo from a 2nd cluster i had and replaced that into the first cluster, then hooking up the wires to the sensor and giving that a spin gave me needle movement, so now I'm just trying to figure out the sensor gear side of it,

but back to the consoles , aww and i managed to get the carpet back in as well after a bit of hacking and chopping,so that was great ,first time in 3 years the thing has had carpet! was happy bout that ,

heres a shot of the end result of this weekends work, carpet back in ,steering wheel on,2 consoles wired up and fitted

ke70 handbrake console fits pretty good now, and looks like its spose to be there

20120512181654small.jpg

this is a 2nd hand wheel i got off a mate for 20 bucks, just painted the plastic part to match the other silver parts in the interior, this isnt staying how ever, only using it

for the moment casue its got adr aproval, so can pass engineers with it on, the wheel i want is like 180 bucks which i don't have at the moment so have to wait for that,

20120512181710small.jpg

resonably pleased with my efforts , a mate had a look and was very impressed haha, dunno sometimes i just do whats in my head and if it turns out good then great,

he seemed to think it look fantastic , to me tho its just another part in the build , don't think ill be impressed till its driving on the road with everything done and no dramas,

20120512182903small.jpg

at least that stuff turned out ok, but then i ʞ©$ɟed up the speedo cable gear ,which anoyed me greatly, now i have to track down another one!

i thought what i could do was cut the gear off the steel shaft, drill it out and some how attach it to the speed sensor.....seemed like a logical solution at the time.,

how ever after cuting the gear off and drilling it out , the heat from the drilling distorted the plastic gear and pretty much wrote it off , so back to the drawing board!!!

the one on the left is the cable driven gear the one on the right is the speed sensor, the ss gear is removable but the cable one was sealed

That fuel pressure issue will more than likely be the gauge. Dad had two of them in his 1600. The water temp gauge reads 10deg higher than it is and the tacho lasted 3 months.

Looking awesome BTW!! On the road soon?
